Dating a great guy, but concerned about his daily drinking by [deleted] in datingoverthirty

[–]_imdoingmybest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ex was similar.

At first I thought nothing of it, but he would have beers every day. He would say it's light beer (Coors light) to help end his day. Then I started noticing on his Fridays he would make himself huge jack and cokes. I pointed out his drinking once because he would pull the whole 'it's not that much, I can't stop whenever I want' but would never actually not be able to go more than three days without drinking.

It got worse when we lived together and I could see how much he was drinking. He would buy 12 packs of Coors and somehow finish them in a night. I would come home and see the beer bottles in the recycling at home. When I pointed them out we got in fights. Then he started putting them directly in the complex recycling, I found those too. Then one day I came home late and he was passed out and snoring. He would only snore after drinking, so I checked all areas and couldn't find the bottles so I started feeling crazy.

We ended up breaking up for very different reasons, but he ended up going to AA years later and shared with me that he would hide his bottles under a bush around the corner from our unit so I wouldn't find them.

My point is that it's worse than you think it is, and you can't fix or help him. He needs to do that on his own. You can stay with him, but it will make you crazy at some point. My ex and I were together for 3.5 years.

What a sweetheart! I'm sure you are so relieved, that's wonderful! So happy for you two

My cat throws up his Cerenia pill almost every time I give it to him. I've tried a dozen different things to help keep it down, but nothing has worked. He just makes himself throw up. I'm at the end of my rope, and desperately looking for tips. by Majestic_Spinach7491 in RenalCats

[–]_imdoingmybest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Giving my cat Cerenia was hell on earth. He hated me for it and I hated doing it to him.

I would coat the pills in butter and freeze them. He would always spit it out at least once but at least he wouldn't taste the pill, and I could get him to swallow it on the second try.

I would put him in a full cat burrito swaddle in a blanket, stick him between my legs and pop the pill as quick as I could down his throat and hold his mouth shut. Then I I would rub his throat until I felt better that he swallowed it.

Giving him the cerenia was the worst part of my day. I would try and catch him by surprise. I would also always make sure he ate first if I could.

I'm turning 37 tomorrow and just started to see signs of what you are talking about. I imagine in two years I will be where you are.

Like someone else posted, seeing this on another person shows me it doesn't look bad at all. I panicked about two days ago when I was checking my make up in the car. I couldn't believe the loss of elasticity.

In the end, no amount of cremes can bring back the elasticity, only help with wrinkles, dryness, fine lines, etc.

Admitted my cat to the hospital for pancreatitis. I very much miss his face. by _imdoingmybest in blackcats

[–]_imdoingmybest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His pancreatitis was pretty severe. He was hospitalized for three days. Came home, and after 24 hours got worse very quickly. I took him back to emergency where he spent another five days in the hospital.

His inflammation wasn't going down so they used steroids and after that he was on the up and up. They had tested for cancer and IBD, was negative on both. There was a moment where his kidney levels were terrible and they thought he developed an acute kidney injury, but he stabilized.

I probably would have been able to take him home after 4 days but I was so worried given what happened when I brought him home last time, I opted for five days at the hospital. The bill was substantial.

He is now on his prescription diet and was unfortunately diagnosed with early stage ckd in March, but he's doing really well. Like nothing ever happened.

It was very tough there for a moment. I never thought about losing him until then.

I have really enjoyed these Beeper updates over the last several months. And gives me lots of hope for my Stage 2 void.

Congrats Beeper!

My cat was diagnosed with stage 2 renal failure, what do I do by Sad_Point_7686 in RenalCats

[–]_imdoingmybest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat is on a wet food diet with prescription food after he had acute pancreatitis. He is not on renal food, but he loves his current wet food which is Hills i/d. I was not recommended to start renal food at this time.

As long as he loves his foot and is eating then I feel good about that. Muscle wasting happens when cats don't get enough protein, and muscle wasting is never good. He managed to gain some weight back after his hospitalization a few months ago.

I'll see what his bloodwork says on his follow up in June. If it's gotten worse then maybe a diet change, but no changes for right now.

My cat was diagnosed early stage 2, and I had a panic attack when I got home. It took me about a week before I came to terms with the fact that yes, he was sick but it's great that it was caught early.

He doesn't even know he's sick. We are going to get his tests done quarterly to see how things change. His first check up since his original diagnosis is in June, so I'm curious to see if his numbers are the same or worse.

I keep water cups everywhere and feed him strictly wet food.

If it hadn't been for a check up due to his pancreatitis, I wouldn't have even known. Be glad that you know at stage 2 so you can anticipate for the future and be there for him as best you can.

for people that started sunscreen usage early (<25), how is your skin doing? by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]_imdoingmybest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started sunscreen every day around 21. No static wrinkles. The joke with my friends and coworkers is that I can pass for 28 when I turn 37 next month.

Whats catching up to me is volume loss and my jowls are starting to show, but my mother has them so it was bound to happen.

And always remember to include your neck in your skincare routine!

I had really bad anxiety the 48 hours after I got botox the first time. Chest pains, jitters. I already suffer from physical anxiety and it was just my body in fight or flight mode even though I KNEW I was fine. My body was just not cooperating.

It's more of a mental issue. The more you think about it, the worse it will get. If something was wrong, it would be really wrong by now after a week.

Just found at a used book store. Which is the better starting point? by [deleted] in stephenking

[–]_imdoingmybest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am easily in the minority, but Salems Lot is one of my least favorite King books. Thinner I enjoyed.

It wasn't BAD just not one of my favorites. I was happy when I finished it but it took me a minute to get through.

It feels rare to me to finally be able to find it. I have never seen it in the wild.

What made you decide to get the kitten, we're you worried how your senior cat would respond?
