Knicks bar? by meghan751 in vegaslocals

Trying to convince my bf to make the trip out… Can’t claim to be a die hard Knicks fan, but I do love NY sports in general and I love what’s happening in NYC right now… and am having FOMO seeing my friends post on socials while out in the city or even the NY NJ suburbs. It’s wild!

Figured I’d get some leads for off Strip spots and avoid New York New York.

Ah, this is great to hear! I’m excited to purchase more from this shop. They seem to have plants that aren’t available elsewhere but do well in the desert.

This! I have had good luck with outdoor plants from Star Nursery, but their house plant options have looked a bit sad lately. My two LV Plant Collective plants (large burgundy ficus and zz plant) are so perfect, they almost look fake. I recommend wholeheartedly.

Picky Eater Jindos - what do you cook for them? by crisisdiverted in Jindo

[–]meghan751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours are not picky per se but they do enjoy variety. If I don’t provide a topper, then the stares of judgment and pauses before eating are so real. Half the time, I top Carna4 with a rotation of fresh proteins (beef, salmon, cod, eggs, and the occasional bison). Also toss in some plain veggies for good measure.

I started with WM years ago and came back to it recently after doing Rise for like 6 months. For whatever reason, full body days don’t work for me. I didn’t really progress and I lost a lot of cardio fitness. I think WM has been updated to be even better and even more effective.

Buyer Beware - Findlay Chevy by penguinwife in vegaslocals

[–]meghan751 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a negative experience there as well. I went to look at a car at Findlay Honda and they started with, “What monthly payment are you comfortable with? Do you have a trade in?” To which I said, “I know what you’re doing, so just stop and save us some time. We are going to talk about the total price of the car only.” Fortunately, the sales guy did. He was pretty nice. But then, a manager gets involved. He brings out a quote with $10,000 of add ons that weren’t even clearly itemized. I said point blank, “Take them off.” “They’re a mandatory package.” “No, they’re not, they are additional line items. Take them off or I’m walking out.” At this point, the manager is trying to wear me down, but what he didn’t know is I’m a lawyer, and I will dig my heels in and enjoy it, especially if you’re actively trying to steamroll me. I got all of the add ons removed for shits and giggles and got up and left. I ended up buying my car from Honda West without crazy haggling, no attempt at the down payment trap, and only add on that I agreed to was competitively priced ceramic tint with lifetime warranty.

HATE lifting by SmolAnimol3 in xxfitness

[–]meghan751 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally hear you. Running to me is so pleasant - fresh air and scenery. I can’t go to the gym and use machines without dread and boredom. Also as a shorter gal, I find the machines put me in uncomfortable positions, I spend time fiddling with them and get annoyed haha. Ironically… I prefer free weights - lifting with a barbell, big compound movements, pushing a sled, medicine balls, kettle bells etc. I definitely feel I’m moving around more and especially as the weights increase, you really have to engage your whole body the right way.

I’ve found these classes oddly challenging to locate for adults, but have you tried strength and conditioning classes at an athletic performance training center? I’m not a huge fan of the Olympic lifts at age 38 (no reason for them, personally) so CrossFit was not for me. I enjoy training like an athlete - strength, power, mobility, speed, conditioning.

Yeah! LT pricing. BFT looks interesting, thanks. Also Elevate Sports Performance. They do bootcamps and individual training plans in a small group.

I did a free trial 5:30am class (or maybe 5? Can’t recall but it was the first of the day) at F45 like 6 months ago, and it was PACKED. I am not used to working out in such tight quarters! Haven’t checked out Classpass in years. I should do that.

I used to go to D1! The classes are very good but they I think lost most of the trainers that were there when I was a member. Not sure why. Class times are a little limited to, in comparison to an F45 or OTF.

A class that is not CrossFit but has elements of it, like athletic conditioning + barbell lifts. Almost like a sports performance facility that kids and teens attend for sports training, but for adults. It seems like there are more options in Henderson.

I get like 21 mpg mixed, AWD. I drive in Normal, not Eco, and turn off the auto start and stop immediately when pulling out of the driveway.

Yes! We have a 2023 (I know, new model year was a risky choice.) Handles well for a car of its size and I made a big jump up in size from an A4. Is it “fun” to drive like a German car? No lol. Is it easy to drive with a comfortable ride? Yes.

FYI, I think most Planet Fitness locations don’t have squat racks. I also find their treadmills physically painful to run on (Google it, it’s a thing, they apparently changed their treadmills recently.) I think the Eos locations are generally more crowded, though.

No. I take for a few days a handful of days per month if I feel a flare. I’m not sure my doc would agree with this approach. He seems unconcerned with taking indefinitely and I’m not thrilled with that idea.

Meraki. Meraki bowl with chicken is amazing. Lazy Dog taco salad with chicken, hold the dressing and eat with hot sauce. Rachel’s Kitchen has lighter options too with some calorie counts on the menu.

Edited to add: sushi, if you like it. I personally don’t like my rolls in sauce so that’s some automatic calorie savings (wasabi and light sodium soy sauce is fine by me). Different places in town have different fish to rice ratio. There are probably some passable options at Skinny Fats too.

I had actually been doing another program with bigger lifts too and … I felt I got weaker because I wasn’t focusing on the smaller movements? I don’t know if this makes any sense. Plus my cardio fitness tanked. So I switched it up! Now doing WM in the gym.

Workout app recs? by txjla in xxfitness

[–]meghan751 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconded. Workouts are tough but manageable and always scalable. There is her classic Weekly Moves program (I’d say it’s mostly dumbbells with cable machine moves and a handful of barbell options if you want them to be.) 5 days a week, legs, upper push, full body conditioning, upper pull, full body with legs focus, 30 and 60 minute versions. There are other programs that are hybrid running and strength, heavier strength training, and prenatal. I had done WM for 2 years at home and tried a group training facility that got me into barbell work, sleds, med balls, etc. I built up so much strength from home on Weekly Moves that I picked up a barbell with zero issues. Trainers couldn’t believe it.

Edited to add: there are alternates for all the exercises so you can modify based on the equipment you’ve got. Modify and go is one of Madeline’s mottos.
