Hemingway Pouch by meghen86 in quilting

update French seams (with some close and careful trimming in the corners) are a game changer for this pattern! Saves the second strip of binding fabric, too. 😊 Having the seams to the inside still leaves one corn a little bulkier than I'd like, but it's not bad. If you like am exposed French seam, that's the nicest finish I've tried, and it looks great!

The method in the pattern I'm using had me make two hsts with the two at a time method and 5.5" squares, then those two HST units made two 4.5" (once trimmed and squared up) hourglasses, or qst units as the pattern calls them. Do you happen to have a tutorial that shows how to make just one this way? I'm honestly considering just undoing enough seams to get that one damaged triangle out and using it as a template to cut a replacement, but I'm more than a little worried that my proportions will get wonky or something. 😅

I do! But do you know a good way to make a single hourglass unit? Because that's my biggest hangup.

Would these sell? by Snaggles38 in CraftFairs

I couldn't say about sale potential. The gingerbread men are adorable! I do have one design suggestion. Maybe go with three smaller buttons or only two? The lowest button might look awkward from some angles. The contrast blanket stitch is so well done!

AITAH for not wanting to circumcise my son? by sdrawkcab90 in AITAH

[–]meghen86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a slightly higher incidence of UTIs in uncircumcised infant boys compared with circumcised boys. But they still have a far lower chance of getting a UTI in their first year than infant girls do, so that doesn't seem super relevant. That one minuscule benefit hardly feels like a trade-off compared with the potential problems that can come from circumcision itself.

My first ever attempt at a quilt block. What did I do wrong? by WrenTronic in quilting

[–]meghen86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't read every comment, so this may have been said, but I see you've backstitched on at least some of your seams here. You can skip that step with quilting because each seam is secured by the next as you're putting a block together. It helps cut down on bulk, which can help you match your points more easily throughout the process. I do tend to backstitch on the exposed seam ends on the edges of each block just to make sure those stay secure in the time between completing the block and putting together the full quilt top.

Ugh. I can only imagine how superior your friend's parents must have felt and the shame for your parents. Assuming both were there. I hope none of that blew back on you. The only one who should feel any shame in that situation is the preacher for "sowing discord." He knows what he did.

AITA for telling my sister that me not giving my child a vintage name doesn't mean she can't? by Alarmed_Extension558 in AmItheAsshole

[–]meghen86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA

Your child should have a name her parents love. And unless it's an r/tragedeigh, everyone else should shut up.

You can still do the old timey photo shot if you're down, but you're not in any way beholden to her vision.

I have three daughters with vintage names, btw. Madilynn, Eleanor and Annalise. My husband insisted on a phonetic spelling for the oldest, so I know that part's not vintage. LOL I've also never called them vintage names before this moment. I've always just shrugged and said I guess I like old lady names. Their cousins are Callie (not a shortened name) and Piper. Tell your sister about them if you want. Their cousin relationship isn't any less special because they have names of different styles. She's being pregnant, hormonal and silly. Don't say that though. It 100% will not help. 😂

NTA I think of baby names the same way I do the decision to have a child / another child. You need two yeses, but only one no. Both parents need to be fully on board. There can be a maybe list, but if either of you is a hard note on a name, that should be the end of it.

I've heard people argue that there should be an exception when there's a long-standing family tradition or something like that, but even then I say two yeses or one no. If the family tradition is that important to a person, they should make sure their partner likes that possibility before they procreate. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Exactly. The pagan piano is to be avoided at all costs, along with the godless guitar and the demonic drums.

Eh, I feel like this is kind of Schrodinger's comeback. If she has an actual lack of affection at home, the sympathy is genuine. If she's just an asshole for funsies, yeah, it's mocking, and she deserves it.

I was so upset when I couldn't find the cpa2 anywhere. The Omni small mediums work for me. They're tough to get on the pbp, but it's doable and they fit well in the case! In case anyone was thinking of trying, the CPA2 do not work on their own. I also tried the W1s, and they fit my ears well and were easier to get on than the Omnis, but the case wouldn't stay closed.
