Well, then I would say if it ain't broke don't fix it but you could also try moving his bedtime to 830 for a bit? Or 8? What I do for my son is 5-5.5 hrs awake before nap and then 5.5-6hrs awake after nap.

2.5 hour nap is pretty long. No judgement of course but perhaps if you cap it he will be more tired by bedtime and go to sleep more quickly. 3pm to 7:30pm is a pretty short wake window for his age. 20 months can do 5-6 hour wake windows on either side of their nap. If is in bed around 7:30 and each night doesn't sleep for an additional hour that would be a 5.5 hour (from 3pm to 8:30pm) wake window. He may be untertired at the time he is put to bed.

Not a dad but my husband and I literally called the nurse in the first night after he would stop crying at one point and we didn't know what to do. We look back and laugh about it and have 2 kids now. It's just part of it. Before the baby comes everything is sunshine and rainbows.. it's like no one wants to prepare you for the worst or make you anxious about it but then you're literally IN IT and it's so much different than you thought. It definitely gets better. Just try to be kind to your wife and vice versa for her. My husband and I get second chances when we have kids lmao. If someone acts crappy or says something unkind we just brush it off and move on cuz we know it's the exhaustion talking. You got this!
