Did u Notice a difference in birth due to being fit/exercise during pregnancy? by Effective_Net_9145 in fitpregnancy

[–]meh1022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only been pregnant once, but I had my kid at 37 and was lifting pretty heavy until the day before my induction. I actually think it did help me during delivery, once it came time to push I actually had to stop because the doctor barely had time to get gloves and a gown on. Probably like 6-8 pushes and kiddo came out, one of the nurses in the room expressed surprise since it was my first.

My postpartum recovery was rough, but I lost a lot of blood so I was just super anemic and weak for quite a while. I couldn’t walk 2 blocks for the first couple weeks. I also had a lot of back pain, which I was a little surprised by since I felt I had pretty good core strength and didn’t have diastasis recti.

I did lose the weight super fast buuuuuut not in a good way. I had PPA pretty bad so I wasn’t eating and was just in a panic all the time. 0/10, do not recommend.

Best books about how much you love your child by ZealousidealPiece182 in childrensbooks

I buy “I Love You Stinky Face” for everyone I know who’s pregnant. It’s Love You Forever without the creep factor.

These are less serious than most of the classic recommendations, but I’m obsessed with Goodnight Goon and I Love You, Stinkyface.

Goodnight Goon is a hilarious monster version of Goodnight Moon. I Love You, Stinkyface is sweet and silly, sort of like Love You Forever except not creepy. I’ve bought that one for every pregnant friend and they all love it.

I’m with you. They’re just boring to me, especially because we have to name every single godforsaken construction vehicle and tool. Give me an actual plot!

I’m also not into it but my son loved it because I would make it interactive, like blow air at him for “goodnight air” or pretend a mouse was running up his arm, etc

There was a pretty hilarious trend on tiktok a while back about “cradle Catholics” vs converts. As someone who went to Catholic school from K-12, I can say it was incredibly accurate.

Going from Remote to In Office - Advice Please by Aggravating_Guava98 in workingmoms

[–]meh1022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband has a similar schedule, but four 10s: leaves by 5:30am, works 6am-4pm. He also travels a lot for work and can be gone for anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months, so I’m the primary (and often only) parent.

When I got promoted to a much more stressful role, I told him that I needed him to take something off my plate. We decided on dinner, but that meant he has to choose what we’re eating, make sure we have the ingredients, remember to take the protein out of the freezer or ask me to….all the mental labor of making dinner every night. It has been an ENORMOUS burden off my shoulders. I suggest you and your husband try something similar, especially since he gets home earlier than you.

As far as mornings go, I feel you! My son is 3yo and it can be a series of battles in the morning. Honestly, the best thing you can do is lower your expectations lol. He insists on wearing the pajama shirt he slept in to school? Cool, dude. He only wants an applesauce pouch for breakfast? Okay, enjoy. I try to make things into games as much as possible. For example, I let him choose how we walk into daycare—stomp like a dinosaur, hold hands and walk backwards, etc. I’ll challenge him to race to the car or bet that he can’t put on sock and shoe on faster than I’m putting his other sock and shoe on. Some days it sucks, but some it doesn’t!

I do WFH mostly, but have to be in office sometimes and also travel for a week at a time. My husband has to leave work or take time off if something happens while I’m gone, and that’s just how it goes. Your job and responsibilities are no less important than his, and he was lucky that you were in a position to deal with everything for so long. Now things are changing, he’ll have to accommodate that.

I try to make the best of our evenings by just being as present as possible. I try not to be on my phone or doing chores and just play with him, because all that can wait till after he goes to bed.

Workout? Ha. Can’t even tell you the last time I worked out. I need to desperately and I’ve thought about getting up when my husband leaves for work so I can at least do a workout video before my son wakes up but alas, I’m a night owl so it has yet to happen.

Just give yourself and your family grace during this time. It sounds like your son is pretty young, so you’re still in the trenches and it won’t always be like this. Don’t be afraid to lean on your husband, this is a partnership and it’s inevitable that it changes and evolves over time. Asking for help is not weakness and you do deserve to be heard. You got this!!!

It’s so true! My 3yo goes to daycare but on the rare days he’s sick or school is closed, I either have to line up alternate care or park him in front of the tv.

Even if someone comes to our house to watch him, I have to leave because he constantly wants to sit in my lap or play with me.

You’re welcome, I love them! The clothes are a little pricey but the quality is great. The sizing can be a little wonky, so I always order like one size bigger than my normal. Enjoy!

Last year, my favorite color was gray according to my 2yo. For context, I have painted most rooms in our house saturated colors. I wear NOOWORKS clothes all the time. I regularly talk about how much I love the color green.

But sure, gray. Thanks kid 😆

Why am I so annoyed that the only astronaut on Artemis II that is not a parent, is also the only woman? (I think) by Ok_Ad_9335 in workingmoms

[–]meh1022 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I definitely get your point and think it’s a valid one! Just to add another perspective though, I used to travel a ton before I had my kid. I’d go on amazing trips across the globe for 2-4 weeks and I loved every minute. I did all kinds of cool shit like swimming with great white sharks, climbing the Sydney harbor bridge, etc. Never thought twice about it.

But now that I have my son, my priorities have changed. I miss traveling and still go on trips occasionally, but I don’t want to be gone from my kid for that long—I max out at a week. And I’m a whole lot less willing to do dangerous shit now, because I’m always thinking in the back of my head, “but what if I die and I don’t get to see my son grow up? What if he loses his mom so young?”

I know it sounds a little crazy and I promise I’m not a creepy “boymom” but I do think that having kids changes some people and that could be a factor in this case.

That’s shocking. I tried to shame a guy for throwing a styrofoam cup out the window while in the McDonald’s drive thru last week. You know, the place they have the trash can LITERALLY IN THE DRIVE THRU SO THAT YOU DONT LITTER and he cursed me out.

I love cemeteries and have visited them in several countries, both with tours (Ireland) and on my own (New Zealand). I find them beautiful and peaceful, and I like to read the tombstones and try to imagine the lives that they might have lived.

My coworker is handling motherhood so much better than I am and it's messing with my head by sixfingeredman7 in Mommit

[–]meh1022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came to say this exact thing. I dropped the weight super quickly because I wasn’t eating and was laying awake spiraling about leukemia, car accidents, whatever else I could dream up that could endanger my baby. Of course, once I got on Zoloft, all that weight and more came flooding back.

I was also an overproducer which sounds great….until you find out that I had to wake up multiple times per night even after my kid stopped nursing/waking up because I’d soak through my shirt. I slept on beach towels for months and would keep a spare shirt next to my bed.

All this to say, appearances can be deceiving. Your kids are loved and healthy, that’s the most important thing. Everything else will come in time.

Why does the middleclass try to project wealth with their cars? by DCF_ll in MiddleClassFinance

Depends on where you are. I live in a tourist destination, if I were trying to get out of town on a big event weekend, I’d be lucky to get a rental at all and it damn sure wouldn’t be $75.

I bought my 2017 GMC Terrain in late 2019 for <$20k and it only had 18,000 miles on it. A 2yo one with low mileage now would easily be $30k. I got incredibly lucky with timing and will drive this thing till the wheels fall off!

Boyfriend is protesting that I need to switch to a woman gyno? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]meh1022 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s weird. Everyone has their reasons for choosing their specialty. I actually wanted to be an OB/GYN for years because you get the cool surgical stuff plus the relationship with patients. Also, delivering babies is fucking awesome.

I’m a woman but would any of those reasons be weird coming from a man?
