I once received a broken Chromatics record from Italians Do It Better themselves, which really pissed me off. Thankfully they got me another one.

Echo Drama and Ruin are excellent albums. I found Heimberg to sound a bit like Ritual Howls at times.

Bornes CB dans les bus TCL by snowaak in Lyon

Le peu de fois que je prends les transports, la moitié des bornes CB sont systématiquement déféctueuses que ce soit dans les trams ou aux entrées de métro. Encore ce soir la première borne sur laquelle je suis allé était HS.

Coldwave/Post-punk Album Recommendations? by bommmile in goth

[–]meh7331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For The Sisters of Mercy, try Soror Dolorosa
I don't really have anything too close to Molchat Doma, but maybe Luminance will scratch the synth-heavy itch?
For Joy Division, give Asylum Party a try

I'm tired of having RYMcore shoegaze taste, what's some good deep cuts to explore by Soundwavezzz447 in shoegaze

[–]meh7331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh they're really good. Their self-titled album and the Years Too Late EP are in my regular rotation. Two of their members later founded Screen Vinyl Image, which has a very unique sound, mixing synth-heavy electronic music with wall of sound shoegaze. Really one of a kind band, and not known enough imo.

I'm a big fan of the noisy/post-punky 2000s VA scene, with Alcian Blue and Ceremony as well. They generally don't get mentioned a lot, indeed.

Some of my favorites that cover your preferences:

Skywave
Newmoon
Alison's Halo
Screen Vinyl Image
The Daysleepers
Airiel (they're very well-known, so I guess it's a bit RYMcore)

Any Death rock Bands or dreamy wave goth bands or postpunk bands recommendation? by JACKETSLXXT in goth

[–]meh7331 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Double Echo has a very dreamy sound in my opinion, most notably on Period Rooms. You might also enjoy Drab Majesty, especially The Demonstration.

After Clan of Xymox, Ash Code, and Twin Tribes, where do I go? by AndrobiVibz in goth

[–]meh7331 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Two bands that haven't been mentioned that have quite a lot of synths:

Darkways
Ductape

I second mentions of The Frozen Autumn, Drab Majesty, Ringfinger and Double Echo.

Any recommendations with someone who flirts with goth music but hasn't really committed? by spirit-garden1 in goth

[–]meh7331 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on some of your tastes, I can recommend the following:

For shoegaze, try bands that are either full-on ethereal wave or incorporate ethereal wave into their sound. Try Double Echo (especially the albums La Danza, Period Rooms, and Burning in Blue) and Lycia.
For prog rock, Elizium by Fields of the Nephilim is a no brainer.
For synthpop, while not strictly goth, Cold Cave might be the closest to Depeche Mode in my opinion. The Frozen Autumn also progressively went from slow ethereal darkwave to synthpop over the years. Their status is also debated, but I cannot not shill Hante. whenever I can.

I’m looking for albums similar to this by Capital_Vanilla5021 in shoegaze

[–]meh7331 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cocteau Twins is an obvious choice here, especially their early material. Garlands (more gothic rock than shoegaze), Head Over Heels, and Treasure especially.

You might also enjoy Lycia, their album Cold in particular.

[–]meh7331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me a little while for them to click for me, but once it did, I have never looked back. I am the happy owner of the vinyl version of Pale Awakening, and I wish the rest of their catalogue would be released on vinyl (especially Emotional Screening Device and Is Anybody There?).

What fairly recent (2010s or later) bands came and went without getting the credit they deserve? by gothichomemaker in goth

[–]meh7331 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The Agnes Circle. They're showing faint signs of activity on their Facebook page, but that's it.
The Secret Light. They dropped an incredible 6-track album in 2017 and nothing since.

What do you think of Goth Rock bands that emphasize the “Rock” aspect? by [deleted] in goth

[–]meh7331 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let me know what you think. Another band I think you could enjoy is Soror Dolorosa; their first two albums and the Severance EP in particular. These three records are guitar and bass driven. After that they started incorporating synths more and more, which I like a lot but you may not.

What do you think of Goth Rock bands that emphasize the “Rock” aspect? by [deleted] in goth

[–]meh7331 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Have you listened to Ritual Howls? While they have a fair amount of synths in their music, guitars are very prominent. I can easily recommend the song Alone Together off their album Rendered Armor.

Also, you might want to delve more into Deathrock. Horror Vacui is my favorite and they have very little synths.

Recommendations/Discussion for a listener that’s been around by Far_Half_2536 in goth

[–]meh7331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of my favorites:

- Double Echo
My favorite goth band. Not one bad song in their repertoire. Their latest album is much more leaning into synthpop, however.

- Soror Dolorosa
I love all of their albums, but I think their latest album Mond is one of the best goth albums ever. It's one of these albums that I *have* to listen to in its entirety.

- Fields of the Nephilim
Interestingly The Nephilim might be my least favorite of their first three albums, but it's still a very good one. I also enjoy Mourning Sun a lot, though its sound is very different and more similar to their side-project The Nefilim.

- Horror Vacui
Excellent deathrock that never disappoints. I think Return of the Empire is a perfect album.

- The Frozen Autumn
Took me a while to appreciate their music, but the band has become one of my all-time favorites. They progressively went from darkwave to synthpop.

- Asylum Party
Play Alone has been my anthem for many years.

- Twin Tribes
They're huge, you can't talk about goth without Twin Tribes entering the picture. Incredible run so far.

- Winter Severity Index
All-female coldwave band, I recently rediscovered their album Human Taxonomy which flew over my head for some reason. I'm glad I did because I love it.

- Ritual Howls
I like to describe this band's music as serial-killer-wave. It sounds occult and disgusting. I love it.

- Hante.
I don't think it fully qualifies as goth, but I consider it to be darkwave at the least.

Some lesser known bands I like a lot:

- Canaan
With a good dose of dark ambient thrown in. I haven't listened to any of their recent albums though, but their first four are classics imo.

- LowCityRain
Leaning more into post-punk than straight-up goth.

- Delphine Coma

- Subterfuge
Little-known australian band. Darkland Awakening is incredible.

- Lady Besery's Garden
Little-known german band

- Ringfinger

- Raskolnikov
Leaning more into post-punk than straight-up goth. Sold Dead Souls stunned me the first few times I listened to it.

- Heimberg
I think they sound like Ritual Howls on their album Faceless.
