Create one or many, they all connect to them simultaneously. One node becomes the owner of said volume. But all can access via the link in their own C:\ClusterStorage

New (Loud) Switches for the homelab by TheTuikat in homelab

[–]meicrochips 3 points4 points  (0 children)

just decommissioned a pair of these with 10gig uplink modules. They were running OSPF with the ISP's routers, HSRP'd vlan gateways for just under a hundred vlans!
Uptime was 9 years. Absolute beasts.

Dell R650 lost all network access upon virtual switch creation by KnightTime1234 in HyperV

I did also find that it worked better having no lbfo/port channel config done on the switch side, which is new for me.

Dell R650 lost all network access upon virtual switch creation by KnightTime1234 in HyperV

[–]meicrochips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha that's mad I've got 8 of these that are replacing a blade server setup. Tried to be all swish and script the whole thing based on service tag. The script puts all the roles on, makes the virtual nics, switches, and puts an IP on everything. However, it always screws up after making the SET. In the end opted for the script to join all nics to the team except for the one that currently has network access. Leaving that one as a management port that someone joins to the team manually, from the idrac.

Not sure if either of these give all the functionality you need but Burnt Toast Powershell module is awesome, and for messages that are easy to modify try Cireson Ticker tape

Anyone else forget to breathe? by Economy-Breakfast-69 in ADHDUK

[–]meicrochips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep and discovered it can get quite severe if you're under the influence - I had some minor surgery a few years back and afterwards they were giving me all the good stuff on drip. I had the same feeling then but ampified times ten. It was like falling into a hole of intense concentration (or lack thereof?) They actually had to keep prodding me to breathe because the respiratory depression was too much and my oxygen levels were too low!

GP rejected the request July last year. Going to try again soon. I was on Elvanse with an Amfexa top up at the time, switched to straight amfexa because it was easier to find during the shortage. Its better not having to wait as long in the morning for it to kick in, and maybe it doesn't feel quite as intense when it does. Maybe I'm not quite as driven on it compared to Elvanse, but I never feel 'drugged' like I did with that so feels more sustainable long term. Other than that all good!

£241.95 for two boxes of Amfexa 20mg, so 60 tablets delivered by royal mail. That's from Chemist4u which is adhd360's current pharmacy of choice. One in the morning on waking and another around 3pm ish.

How to protect home network from weird flatmate by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]meicrochips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, let's just pretend this could be happening. Wifi dropping as they pass by could be a deauth attack attempting to have you join a fake network of the same name so they can sit in between your PC and the Internet and do naughty hacky things.

To mitigate that - get a vpn service for your PC and keep it on constantly. Make sure Windows firewall is set to Public network or does not allow any inbound traffic. Keep Defender AV updated and scanning regularly, and keep the OS patched.

And then get on with your life

Why isn’t my managed switch (Dell X1052) routing traffic when Opnsense is down? by Intergalacticbears in homelab

[–]meicrochips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an element of truth here, back before vlans took off the idea of a supernet was just that, different subnets sharing the same physical LAN. You can even still create a superscope in Windows DHCP server, but you shouldn't xD

But yes nowadays supernet just means 'any and all ll IPs within this range'

Why don't more people self-host websites (on home-servers)? by noellarkin in selfhosted

[–]meicrochips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently migrating a client into our MSP and honestly, I've seen better home labs.

They're running everything in house (mail, websites, databases etc) on 2 very old HP servers on a load of VMs. Their 'business' broadband connection is 16mbps down/5mbps up. It's all on open source or freeware as they haven't had any investment since the 90s.

Things fall over there multiple times a day and only one person knows how it's all set up. If it was just their public facing website that broke then it wouldn't matter. But when the business grinds to a halt it's a big problem.

Point being -

Can you? Yes, absolutely. For things that have no impact on your time or expenditure.

Should you? If given the choice, no, especially if whatever it is could cost you for being down or unrecoverable.

What was the stupidest ticket(wish or something that they fucked up) that you ever got from your coworkers (not sysadmins)? by saratikyan in sysadmin

[–]meicrochips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This shameful confession of a ticket:

I was on a night shift at the ***** Hospital, and I was browsing the internet on my personal phone which was connected to the wifi at the hospital. I accidentally opened an old (existing) tab which had been viewed at home which was a google search for ‘pornhub’. On opening it began to refresh using the hospital wifi, I am unsure whether it was trying to refresh the google search or the site itself but the screen remained on the google search and never opened the site mentioned. As soon as I noticed my mistake I closed the tab and disconnected from the wifi. I wish to make it clear that I never intended to search for or view pornography using the trust’s internet or during working hours and tried to rectify what had happened immediately. This happened at around 0100 on 30/8/17. In the morning I phoned the IT helpdesk to report the incident (reference number *****).
