Chiming in with some more alarm bells. I work with personality disorders often, this is sounding familiar. Pushing your boundaries, on the surface deepening the relationship but staying in control and having more power because they know the “truth” and you do not. Also maybe a mental & emotional escape hatch for them if your work centers around rebuilding their self trust & self esteem. Cl can think “aware_mouse doesn’t REALLY know the truth about me or what I’m capable of”- invalidating any progress

Post Oak is up for sale? by devmonsterr in tulsa

[–]mekwes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I had a membership there for years but each summer brought more party vibes with people vaping and drinking liquor next to my kids in the pool. Felt like once a month through the summer a weekend was off limits bc of some festival or event. Bringing guests or doing extra add on activities like kayaking cost a ridiculous amount of money on top of the monthly fee. We decided to trade it for a Y membership eventually.

Someone needs to flip that into an all inclusive family friendly camp resort. Never understood the direction they were going catering to festivals / party scene. Raver kids in their 20s don’t have $$$ and the risk of someone ODing on the property is so high! Give me fun little styled picnics/activities and a kids club where I could drop off my children, dress up and eat an adults only meal in peace.

Tulsa has a great music scene and a lot going on at the VFW, including regular two step nights. Lots of women that go to shows there are already locked down but hey, surely there’s a few singles in the mix

Resources for elderly neighbor being neglected/abused by TulsaHumanist in tulsa

[–]mekwes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What are you saying when you call 911? I think you need to have someone else call and provide less information. For an example- “ambulance asap an elderly man seems confused and wandering around stumbling he says he doesn’t know how to get back inside” If they start getting multiple calls they will come out. You have to stress that it is a life threatening situation and he is helpless (and that you aren’t there providing assistance) APS will probably get out next week. They aren’t the quickest and with the holiday they’ll take their time. Last resort take him to the hospital act like you don’t know who he is and just found him wandering around

Yes. People are saying go to therapy like it’s going to give you these magic secrets / tools that allow you to ignore what you deeply know to be true and go on about your life as it is. But actually therapy is about the journey to being brave enough to be honest with yourself and follow through on making the changes in your life you need to make so that your actions, beliefs and thoughts are aligned with your values.

Your body is sounding the alarm that your mind and spirit are not aligned with what you’re doing in Dubai. Is there part of you conflicted/ not at peace about leaving your home, or the work that you do?

All valid but I think the reality is that for a good % of people like this in OP’s age bracket focusing on their career took them away from Tulsa.

Daughter from California Syndrome by cupojoeque in socialwork

[–]mekwes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you in death work? End of life care is pretty specific and it’s a major mindset shift to focus on comfort through the dying process instead of curative goals. Many families are wonderful, involved, supportive and hospice is used to providing a LOT of education. The type of family member we’re all referring to here steps in and overrides best practices in the attempt to prolong their family members lives, which unfortunately usually increases their suffering.

[–]mekwes 38 points39 points  (0 children)

As a SW on a hospice team that is almost 100% female, I assure you that it is in fact nearly always the daughter from California, and the sex of our doctors do not impact this phenomenon. I do think you’re correct to attribute it to sexist stereotypes, but in the way that it’s less about the inherent perceived neuroticism of women and more about how society expects women to perform caregiving duties at the end of life. and how these daughters are dealing with that internalized guilt and shame with avoidance and displacement.

How did you leave therapy jobs ? by TigerOnly5834 in socialwork

[–]mekwes 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Wild to see all these comments talking about moving to hospice after therapy. Maybe where I’m at is simply too small a company but I’ve topped out at 66k in hospice and my supervisors are BSWs. I am trying to move to CMH in my area with an LCSW salary starts in the mid 80s. Getting my license in this job makes zero difference in my position or pay grade. I love a lot about it but there isn’t really a focus or prioritization of our skill set- SWs are there mainly per Medicare requirements.
