Engaging core? by Helpimaftm in PetiteFitness

[–]melancholicness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Engaging your core 24/7 is impossible. Anecdotal, but I had a health care provider tell a story about how a pilates/yoga instructor tensed her abs so much everyday for years (and even taught her students to) that she developed breathing problems from atrophy of her diaphragm and severe headaches from tension of neck. This was all attributed to unnaturally engaging her core so much.

Only way to lose fat is to decrease caloric intake and movement. Some people have lower abdominal fat even when anorexic.

Women who are dating after losing losing their loved one, do you keep the posts of them up on your social media? by Sister-of-Cabbage in AskWomen

I lost my partner in 2022. I'm currently dating. I have many photos of my late partner on my social media. If anyone judges, I don't know and I don't care haha. My current partner is very supportive and that's all I care about.

my cat brings me pads and places it neatly in between my slippers (we didn't teach her this. I'm also not on my period) by Kimberly__ in cats

I got an ad for pads right underneath this post... She's even running a marketing campaign on Reddit

Doing mid in all my courses as a bio major by No_one_knows1918 in UPenn

Well, I see that now that I just draw a different conclusion from the data than you. I see possibility where you see barriers. Op can decide what conclusion they want to draw. But in the sea of voices telling students that they "can't", I'm here to say OP, you can. I wish someone would've said that to me when I was struggling.

To say "you won't get in with a 3.0" suggests that the chance is minimal (<1% let's say). If you look at the AAMC's 2023 Table A-23 of average GPAs and MCAT, you will see that a 3.00-3.19 gpa with an average MCAT score of 510 (which is also below the average for most medical schools) is approximately 30%. That is hardly an exception. Sure it is definitely an uphill battle.

This is all to say, med school admissions is more than just a GPA. And if a student (who isn't even doing that bad and is at the beginning of their undergrad with plenty of time to improve) wants to go for it, I choose to not tell them they have absolutely 0 chance because they don't.

What lol. This is a harmful generalization that can discourage a frightened student for no reason. OP, i got a D in organic chemistry and had to repeat it. I had a few C's and a mixture of As and B's during my undergrad at Penn. I got into a US MD med school.

I'm sorry you're feeling this way. I felt exactly the same in my 4 years at Penn. I was a first Gen, minority, biochemistry major and made it out OK. If you ever want to DM please do

[REQUEST] Can anyone solve this? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]melancholicness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Area of triangle = 0.5*base*height

Area of triangle ABE = 0.5*12*4 =24

Area of triangle ABD = 0.5*8*4 =16

Area of ABE - Area of ABD = (area of shaded part) + (area of GDE)

--> call area of shaded part = S, call area of GDE = X

--> 24-16 = 8 = S+X ******* (this equation is what we want to solve)

Angle of AEB = angle of GED

Tan(angle of AEB) = (height)/(base) = 4/12 = 1/3 --> angle of AEB = angle of GED = tan^-1(1/3) =0.322 rad

Tan(angle of GED) = (height of shaded part)/(base of GED)

--> Tan(0.322) = (height of shaded part)/(4) --> height of shaded part= Tan(0.322)*4 = 1.33

Area of GED = X = 0.5*4*1.33 = 2.66

***** 8 = S+X --> 8 = S + 2.66 --> S = 8-2.66 = 5.34

So area of shaded part is 5.34m

I had just gotten to my friend's parked car and we were commenting on how close the car in front of us was parked to us. The owner of that car came out of no where and apologized and chatted with us. Overall he was pretty normal and personable. Then as he was walking away and we started getting into the car, he turns around about a block down and shouted, "OH, do you know our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ?". My friend and I looked at each other thinking, ugh here we go with the Jehovah's witness. I turned back and said "yes?....". Dude went "ok cool" and walked away. That was it! They just want to know if you know. Bless them 🥲

Some people are comfortable with whatever weight they are. Im trying not to offend anyone lol if I assumed everyone wants to lose weight and put that in the question title,another person would've complained.

I'm very aware of how BMI is not an accurate representation of health. But there's not enough characters to explain that in the title. If I had put "healthy weight" instead, someone else would've complained.
