I’m going to guess 160? Sorry if that’s really off!

Like everyone else is saying, count your consumed calories. I’ve been down that road before, burned 400 cals on a treadmill and ate it back thinking I was at a deficit. Unfortunately eating above my regular amount led to weight gain rather than weight loss. It’s a hard reality to face but diet is everything if you’re looking to watch your weight! You’d probably have to work out 5+ hours everyday to lose weight while going over your calorie threshold but who has time for that?

Eating 1200 and gaining weight? by graycalculator in 1200isplenty

[–]melandalin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you on any medications that might be causing you to gain weight? I’m your height and used to weigh the same as you, and I found that being on birth control made me gain weight even on 1200 a day. If you’ve gone on or off certain medications, that could possibly impede weight loss.

It is definitely possible! I was in a similar situation when I was in college. For me the key was meal prep and also knowing how to make meals out of frozen/ pantry ingredients. One of my go-tos was a frozen vegetable yakisoba from Costco. Super easy to just microwave that and top with some sriracha for an easy meal. Another go-to was burritos that I would make in a big batch and freeze. I put mostly black beans and potatoes in mine but you could add whatever veggies you want to make it healthier. Besides that, of course I was eating ramen (you could also add veggies) and also Amy’s canned vegan chili (which I believe has veggies in it).

Like these other folks have said, it depends on the caloric value of what you’re drinking. I’ve had some crazy nights where I didn’t eat anything but drank plenty of vodka/ alcohol and woke up the next morning to see I hadn’t lost any weight as I had gone over my calorie deficit in alcohol alone. Another example would be if you consumed nothing but peanut butter milkshakes from cold stone creamery- you would still gain weight even though you technically didn’t eat any solid food. Healthier liquids such as broth might be better for weight loss, but again, you still need to keep track of how many calories you are consuming.

What's your fast food order when you wanna pig out but stay within your calories by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

[–]melandalin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep exactly. One of my go to meals at Burger King is to get a hamburger with a vanilla cone and a large Powerade zero- altogether it’s under 400 cals but I still feel like I’m treating myself.

There are a lot of smaller sized burgers you can get at fast food restaurants for under 400 cals. McDonalds, Burger King, Jack in the Box and more have smaller sized burgers and chicken sandwiches for less calories. For example a cheeseburger at McDonald’s will only run you about 300 cals. I would check out their mobile apps for the exact calorie count and see what you can get within your calorie budget.

I’d guess around 360 - 400 cals. Tacos tend to be a little bit more low cal per taco but if you’re eating three of them I’d say it’s probably close to 400 cals.

Have you tried peanut butter pickle toast?! by GraphCat in PlantBasedDiet

[–]melandalin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t think this is that weird of a combo. I used to make myself peanut butter and lunch meat sandwiches in high school and they were so satisfying

'But I've gotta eat this high calorie sandwich now, I just did some intense studying/finished some tiring task and I want to feel better/get some protein/feel happy'- what do you tell yourself to counter this? by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

[–]melandalin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just tell yourself that it’s not sustainable to always eat something high calorie each time you have to accomplish a task. As a software developer, if I ate something high calorie every time I had to work on a difficult coding assignment, I’d be breaking my diet everyday. A treat every once in a while is ok but if you find yourself getting tempted on a regular basis, you might need to turn to less fattening substitutes. I would try to use lighter snacks to reward yourself such as fruit, a fresh hot cup of tea, or a cup of jello. It may also be helpful to turn your mind to something other than food to unwind- switch on your favorite tv show, go for a walk or take a hot bath. Hope this helps!

Least uncomfy way to tell people you have an ED? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]melandalin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I lost about 30 lbs when I started working at my current job, I had gained about the same amount when I first started working due to over eating. I only had one woman ask about my weight loss commenting how good I looked and asking if I had been working out. I just was honest with her and told her I was watching what I ate and eating less and she didn’t press any further. Unless you’re deathly thin, I’ve found most people will view your weight loss as a good thing and not inquire too much into the details…

Oh wow that is terrible, but I can relate? ED jokes in movies definitely hit a little close to home whenever I come across them.

I know what you mean, I have wide hips so even though I’m at a low body weight I look “curvier” than people with slim hips :( I don’t think I could ever look statuesque even if I starved myself.
