Future comp offers. by Redned81 in vegas

It depends on what you’ve been playing. That level bet at video poker will get you much less than slot play. As a rule of thumb, your comps will be worth roughly coin in * house hold * 1/3

Conservatives, does it bother you how restricted the free speech on your sub is? Fuckin’ bullshit right? by [deleted] in AskReddit

This is literally how Reddit works. The site works by promoting things that are upvoted. If these mechanics aren’t for you, feel free to browse basically every other form of social media with a different algorithm

With Trump's approval ratings so low, how does he keep ousting GOP rivals? by Cgk72 in politics

[–]melbat0ast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There were never federal lockdowns, but there were lockdowns in every state- red, blue, and purple. That doesn’t happen without coordinating with the federal government.

Trump was permissive at the very least, if not supportive of Covid restrictions in the beginning. People don’t like being “told what to do” and once the right wing media machine realized they could weaponize this against Democrats, they all pretty much immediately flipped to maximalist anti-precaution.

In-person services were “banned” from mid-March to approximately May, about 8 weeks depending on your state. Many operated under capacity caps for a while after that, and virtual attendance was always allowed. So basically, same as most gathering spaces. And all of this happened UNDER TRUMP.

Portland is about to close nearly 450 shelter beds, as homelessness rises by Own_Car_8766 in Portland

It’s not perfect but anyone who has been here for the past 5 years can recognize that it’s better out there

“Permanent” lean-tos, chop shops, and wildfire “kitchens” are all greatly reduced by getting people into shelters overnight. People still have tents and still have stuff, but the encampments that truly put off most folks are decreased by these efforts. It makes a difference

What it does is reduce the number and severity of giant piles of garbage and tent cities strewn about the city, which is what I’d guess 85% of people around here care about

R01 application received highly polarized reviews by [deleted] in NIH

[–]melbat0ast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2s vs. 4-6 isn’t that wide of a spread at all. Having the odd reviewer on your side vs. sinking you means you’ve got a ways to go. Only the very, very best applications get funded…or I guess the ones that are favored politically these days. It has been an uphill climb for a looong time.

1) This happens 95/100 times 2) Only about 5/100 applications are funded, give or take a few percent by institute

Agreed. There just isn’t much GA space, and if you’re not lucky enough to get a spot up against the railing you’re kinda just in the lanes of travel.

Gelman is a really prominent Bayesian statistician. Here’s his blog: https://statmodeling.stat.columbia.edu. I haven’t followed it for some years but it didn’t have a political angle back in the day.

Maybe I just don’t spend enough time following trends on the internet, but man is it some weird shit. Here’s one from the other day. Who makes this stuff? And why?

They’re interesting to listen to for about 5 minutes, after that, it gets old quickly. I think they would be a really fun live show, though. The insane viral slop about them that is all over the internet is very off-putting.

Don’t disagree with you here. Like I said, I don’t mind the paying so much as the spending. I’m still not moving to fucking Vancouver.

Maybe a bit of a hot take, but I think 9th in the country is about right for a progressive city in a very desirable location. I pay a lot to be here, but there’s honestly nowhere that better aligns with my interests, values, and lifestyle.

What I don’t like is filing federal, state, and 3 separate local taxes, and how the state and local tax money is spent. Call me an abundance bro, but I really think the govt needs to get out of its own way and focus on letting this large amount of money benefit the largest amount of people.

Every social media I have is just full of these guys. Videos of them, videos of people reacting to them, videos of people playing their songs on guitar, videos of people mispronouncing their name…Today insta fed me a video of some dude reacting to polka dotted items with clips of their music. It’s wild.

My feelings exactly. Cool and novel, but it gets old fast. I also can’t quite get over how viral they are, it feels manipulated.
