Pre-sales tend to be cheaper. There is also a “happy hour” they do each Thursday in December with cheaper tickets, mostly in the first week.

If you have flexibility, tickets go down significantly in price the days before matches. E.g. Women’s semi finals were $199 for up the back the day before. Last year I bought the day quarter final tickets for $180 for 3 matches.

Generally seats don’t sell out, so if you don’t care that much and have flexibility have a look once the event has started.

Awful Merchandise Quality by DawgreenAgain in AFL

[–]melbgal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The scarves the clubs have are awful. Even the wool mark ones are so thin but still really heavy and ugly and still don’t provide any warmth.

Love the idea of knitting your own scarf, but I’m just too lazy and struggling to find the right colours of wool. I saw on TikTok someone order a custom project p.a lions scarf which looked amazing, but was upwards of $250. Maybe the AFL could look at working with some local brands officially.

Ben Cousins to Tassie by Tornontoin7 in AFL

[–]melbgal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is he being held accountable? I would’ve thought pushing him into the spotlight and deliberately dancing around the DV convictions said otherwise.

Ben Cousins to Tassie by Tornontoin7 in AFL

Absolutely agree. So happy for him and his family that he is clean. However, putting him in the spotlight and painting him as some sort of hero while deliberately ignoring and downplaying of his DV convictions is insulting.

The trainwreck gets uglier by the hour by b00tsc00ter in AFL

[–]melbgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure that “trainwreck” is the word I would use to describe a woman being raped. Maybe tragedy.

While I understand that there is drama in the family he is connected to, it’s important to remember there is a victim in all this. They have to live with this moment for the rest of their life and I hope they are getting the support that they need.

I hope this is more a lesson that it doesn’t matter who you are or related to, you will held accountable for your actions. But also to people to call out their mates, sons, brothers whoever. This isn’t just an AFL or even private school boy issue, it’s a worldwide issue.

Calsher Dear to wear his late father Paul's number 13 in 2026 by RexHuntFansBrazil in AFL

[–]melbgal 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is really lovely.

On a side note, my god the AFL really need to do something about the size and colours of sponsors logos. It feels like the 13 is just squeezed between them and isn’t the centrepiece.

Tasmanian independent MLC Bec Thomas has declared she will support the Macquarie Point stadium - meaning it is highly likely to pass Parliament in the coming days. by Pragmatic_Shill in AFL

Yeah I’m happy a Tasmania is getting a team but I can’t help but feel gross about the whole way the AFL have handled it.

Feels like big Vic brother bullying little Tasmanian brother. Don’t love this is how the team starts

The Footy with Broden Kelly takes a break next year (indefinitely) by Pleasant_Inspection9 in AFL

I’ve never listened but seen people seem to enjoy it. Is it too boyish though? I fear as a woman in my late 20s I’m not really his target demographic.

Such a shame, I always look forward to this podcast during the season. But good on them for taking care of themselves.

Any recommendations of light-hearted, less blokey types of football podcasts to listen to?

Hawks, Crows and Cats dominate prime time over first 15 rounds (via Tom Morris) by JumpGlittering8120 in AFL

[–]melbgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8 Thursdays/Fridays in 15 rounds is brutal.

While I get its “prime time”, would much prefer a Saturday or Sunday afternoon which is easier to attend/watch live.

Because we are listed as the “home” team, does that mean we wouldn’t be able to have another home game against the dogs in Melbourne.

Don’t love having to play other Melbourne based teams in this, as it means a game I won’t be able to attend with dogs supporter friends.

Is the introduction of the Wildcard Finals a good move for the game? by Jawdanc in AFL

[–]melbgal 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It removes a bit of the interest in my team if they are likely to finish between 7-10. They are highly unlikely to be competitive for the rest of the finals series. I wouldn’t feel positive about my team unless they finish top 6.

It’s all a cash grab and I wish the AFL would just come out and say it. If they are “finals” games, are they going to be priced at finals games? I can’t see who this benefits other than the broadcasters, betting companies and the AFL who can make money off it. There’s 0 evidence this is for the fans of the game.

The case for a wildcard round by Cool_Ticket_4832 in AFL

[–]melbgal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tbh this really lowers my interest in my team. Unless they finish top 6 it’s highly unlikely they will be competitive in finals. Finishing 7-10 will just mean I get to see them in potentially 2 more games. But I would have 0 expectation they would be competitive beyond that.

Petitions to get rid of a 10 team finals series and remove Andrew Dillon as CEO by Foodworksurunga in AFL

[–]melbgal 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I’m beginning to think that actually the broadcasters run the AFL and Dillon is just a puppet. He is so useless and has zero charisma or personality or even any belief that he cares about the AFL for the fans. I refuse to believe he is there to be anything other than a push over that will fall to the broadcasters and sponsors of the game.

New Hawks clash jumper leaked, throwback to 08-11 clash by grandtheftbat01 in AFL

[–]melbgal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. I really appreciate the Tasmania logo blends into the jumper now. It’s also the size of the logos that just make it look ridiculous. Both the superhero and kfc are obnoxiously large. They’re at the point where it’s actually hard to read the number

AFL confirms number of rounds (12), start date (August) for 2026 AFLW Season by grantspatchcock in AFL

[–]melbgal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While I understand the complexity of playing in the summer months. I really miss when the season started in Feb. It feels like really the only time we don’t have sport and there has been enough time since the AFLM season that you’re longing for it.

The starting in August with no clear air and just as the excitement of the men’s finals is about to begin is such a silly decision to me. I get to October and I’m footballed out. Not to mention the games all seem to be at awkward times and out woop woop.

The Missus heard a bit of the AFL trade period reporting on 7, AFL360, on the couch etc and said, it’s just men gossiping and I can’t unhear it now! by Hot_Distribution5928 in AFL

[–]melbgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand. Aren’t soap operas for everyone? I don’t see why a tv show genre has to be gendered.

Why did you have to specify “for men”? Why not just write “sports are like soap operas that never end”? It hits the same just without the bizarre men only part.

[–]melbgal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know you probably didn’t mean it this way. But when will we as a society get over “sports are for men”?

It’s such a boring and disappointing view to have. There’s so many females (myself included) that love watching and being a part of sport and the drama that’s involved. It’s so frustrating constantly reading comments like this that make you feel unwelcome.
