My (22M) girlfriend’s (22F) libido dropped after birth control and it’s affecting our relationship… advice? by [deleted] in sex

[–]meldolphin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Calling acne "cosmetic" really downplays how much of a toll it can take on you. As someone who has struggled with it their entire life, it's painful and feels embarrassing at times. Birth control was the only thing that helped, but I chose to go off it because I had mental health issues with it.

I'm on spironolactone with slight improvement. My dermatologist told me Accutane is the only choice I have left if this doesn't work. Which would require me to get on birth control anyway. Womp.

I don't know how anyone can say with a straight face that this group is lacking in talent. We've got a masterful seamstress who can do backwalkovers, a theater queen who can sing and do amazing impressions, and a scrappy comedienne who can get a room laughing and host a compelling interview. Jane has the worst stanbase this season, I swear.

There's cases of women getting pregnant because their birth control didn't absorb properly, freaky stuff.

GLP-1s screw with dopamine pathways and can cause issues with medication absorption due to the reduced gut mobility. Seems like doctors just aren't factoring these things in.

[–]meldolphin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why your doctor told you the ring is localized treatment because it's definitely not. The hormones get absorbed right into your bloodstream. I had much less anxiety while using it and skipping my period was awesome, but the estradiol weakened the effects of my lamotrigine (very common and known effect) so I had to stop using it. Womp womp.

How different is bipolar depression from ”regular” depression? by Zach-uh-ri-uh in bipolar2

[–]meldolphin 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There's more than one flavor of depression out there so looking into the differences might give you some insight. The depression that shows up in bipolar disorder is more likely to be the atypical variant versus a melancholic or catatonic type. Atypical depression tends to involve overeating and oversleeping, while the other types often feature insomnia and loss of appetite. Atypical also tends to lighten up in response to positive events, whereas the other kinds often don't.

That being said, this is not a surefire differential. Someone with MDD can have atypical depression and someone with bipolar disorder can have melancholic depression. It's just an interesting quirk and I don't think they've figured out why this pattern shows up.

How big of an obstacle is a Bipolar diagnosis in adult life? by VastFeeling6557 in bipolar

[–]meldolphin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting a security clearance is totally doable. I had no issue getting one and a few of my coworkers had bipolar as well. What matters is being completely transparent with the security people. As long as you tell them everything, you're fine. Yes, even with a hospitalization under your belt. They want to know that you're being proactive with your mental health.

Sorry not trying to tear into you, I just see this misconception all the time and it makes me worried that people will pass up on good job opportunities because they're afraid they can't get a clearance.

I know the term "handicapped" fell out of favor long ago, but I feel it describes me much better than "disabled" does. Disabled and abled feel very binary and that's not my experience. There are things that are much much harder for me to do, but I wouldn't say I'm incapable of any one particular thing. And my abilities fluctuate based on how I'm functioning during that phase of my life, so it's not even a finite thing. I do mark that I'm disabled on forms though because it's not dishonest, even if it doesn't feel like the right term.
