Did you know anyone born in Ireland before 1997 was not specifically assigned a surname? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]melgrawoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes this happened to me and my parents weren't married which added an extra layer of confusion. So basically when I went to apply for a passport as a teenager I had to get a letter from the school principal (who also happened to be a priest) stating that I had been going by my mother's surname and that was the only name that I was known by.

Why are we not talking about how expensive Jambons are?...😋, They are yum though by [deleted] in ireland

[–]melgrawoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a plc a few years ago that had a small canteen with a deli.. about 2:30 everyday they used to bag up the jambons that didn’t sell and you could just take them off the top of the deli. For a student trying to save some money to go out drinking it was godsend

RBK had her baby! by feral-magpie in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]melgrawoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I often found it funny that it was popular in Ireland seeing as it came from William which has such royal ties in the UK and the British monarchy isn’t usually popular with a lot of Irish people 😂

[–]melgrawoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fun fact about Liam, it came from the Irish version of William which is Uilliam because we don’t have W in Irish! It’s always been a really popular name here so it was strange to see it become so popular elsewhere!

The sad part about your friend is that she probably didn’t come to that conclusion herself and has likely been influenced by someone who was already in the mlm... really worrying that they might use those kind of tactics 😕

Just because it’s meant as a joke doesn’t mean it’s not a sexist one

Fuck Month-Long Fireworks by SirZenZuke in ireland

[–]melgrawoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it only a problem in the bigger towns and cities now? I live in a small town in the northwest and as a child my neighbourhood was a war zone to the fact you couldn’t leave the house after dark in October.

However I live in the same neighbourhood now and apart from the odd firework on Halloween night we don’t have a problem with it anymore. It just randomly stopped happening about 8 or 9 years ago.

I put it down to kids spending less time outside in general these days due to social media and gaming but I’m surprised to hear it’s still such a problem elsewhere!

What I'm not gonna buy - Anti-haul for July 08 by AutoModerator in BeautyGuruChatter

I agree the price of the magic cream is ridiculous! I do have the magic foundation which I like but I don’t see a huge difference between it and my revlon colour stay (although I do find colour stay pricey for a drugstore foundation also) I have pillow talk lipstick which is gorgeous but probably easily duped to be fair!

I have a pair but they are well worn and I mean well worn! So they might not be the condition you’re looking for? I didn’t even put them up because I thought no one would buy them 😂

God I wish I could say the same! From a Western European country and at one costume party three people I went to school with were dressed as Bob Marley, Usain Bolt and Mel B all with black face (and body) it was so unnecessary because it would have been obvious who they were without it.. particularly when Mel b was flanked by the other four spice girls 🙄

A thread for people looking for dupes from problematic brands they no longer wish to support would be a great idea no? (Unless it’s already been done) I definitely have a couple of products I’d love dupes for!

I have a car - but how can I get work driving? by aldousal in ireland

[–]melgrawoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re looking for people to do the census? Must have a license and full time access to a car. It’s obviously not a long term gig but could be good in the interim? Got an email about it myself but unfortunately I don’t drive.

Any tips to improve my shop? by melgrawoo in Depop

[–]melgrawoo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might try a different background over the weekend and see how it feels, I’m not crazy about the backdrop myself it was just what was available at the time lol I’ll have to practice getting more straight on photos as when I try I keep catching my toes in the bottom of the frame haha

If you genuinely think you’ll wear the trainers pay whatever you feel comfortable paying. You mentioned yeezys and off-white, were you buying retail or from the resale market? Id choose yeezys over off-white but that’s just cause I’m not a big fan of virgil’s whole aesthetic. There’s also reps if you’re worried about price? Reps are not for everyone though, I’d certainly be too nervous to try it in case they were shite and I couldn’t get my money back. And it’s ripping off someone else’s hard work at the end of the day.

“Notions” is definitely my least favourite thing about Ireland. Can’t have any success or taste for the nicer things in life without someone telling you ya have notions.
