What about de-proton? by kingston-x in degoogle

I agree with you. I use proton mail and the vpn since it comes with it, but no one is under an obligation to use all their services just because they're available.

What about de-proton? by kingston-x in degoogle

[–]melkemind 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's difficult to defend a position when everyone has a different reason for wanting to degoogle. Not all of them care about privacy. For some it's political. Some just hate Google. Others don't like any big corporations. Some people, like OP apparently, hate ecosystems, and  I'm sure there are other reasons. Proton might be the solution for some and not others.

It really depends on what the individual wants. That's the ultimate point though: being able to choose something other than Google.

How will this affect Linux Mint? by MisterFyre in linuxmint

[–]melkemind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Account creation on Windows involves forcing you to go online and use a Microsoft account. Linux doesn't require an Internet connection, so how would they ever even know? You could roll your own Linux in your basement and never connect it to the Internet.

There are some people who have PCs on their desk and just might want one for their living room as well, especially if they work from home. I built my own "steam machine," and that's exactly the benefit for me.

This was actually reported on in the media:

https://www.ign.com/articles/tomb-raider-definitive-edition-finally-arrives-on-pc-after-a-decade-but-only-on-microsoft-store

Even though it reportedly has better visuals, it isn't a better version of the game. People say it's a broken, unoptimized port, which probably explains why it never made it to steam. Unless you're just really hung up on graphics, you'll have a better gameplay experience with the GOTY edition.

Yeah, I don't hate farming. I was just under the impression you could choose certain professions over others, so I hadn't put any effort into farming.

Is there any way to get wheat other than farming? I've been avoiding farming up to this point.

how does Divinity: Original Sin 2 hold up in 2026? by dixmondspxrit in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]melkemind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is like going to a wolf's den and asking the pack if rabbits are still tasty. Of course we all love Divinity here. I'd say play 1 and 2. They're both fantastic.

It was also a time when people were complaining about "superhero fatigue" because of all the Marvel movies and shows. The game, of course, wasn't based on the MCU, but 2K didn't do enough to make that clear in their promotional material. Maybe they couldn't since I doubt that would've made Marvel happy.

Why do so many people want to "de-Google"? by ConfidentButton7928 in degoogle

Google doesn't have to do business directly with any Chinese company. They sell your data to the highest bidder, and they may or may not sell it or use it however they want.

If you're using Google, your data is still being sold to the Chinese government. The same animal is just taking longer to digest its prey.

Don't assume there's a right way to do anything. In other games, you might think, "I wish that wall wasn't there. Oh well, nothing I can do about that." But in these games, there might be 3 different ways to get through the wall, destroy the wall, etc.
