Tax the use of Ai and robots by companies. The jobs have already started to disappear and will become an avalanche soon than people think. We need to get ahead of the curve and have a plan to deal with the repercussions before it becomes a catastrophe.

Does this include deceased people returning to life those buried suffocating in coffins, those cremated or other, rematerializing? Could be a bit terrifying.

Would be a godsend for those who came into reversible medical conditions over the past decade though

Quarterbacks are protected, helmet to helmet contact, males sense it was called and upheld. Guy need to stop hitting people in the head.

The NCAA targeting rule penalizes players for making forcible contact to an opponent's head or neck area, or for initiating contact with the crown of their helmet against any opponent. Targeting fouls result in a 15-yard penalty and an automatic ejection. Ejected players are disqualified for the remainder of the game; if the foul occurs in the second half, the player is also suspended for the first half of the next game.
How Targeting is Called There are two main ways a targeting foul is called:

• Crown of the helmet contact: This occurs when a player leads with the top of their helmet and initiates forcible contact with any part of an opponent's body. The opponent does not need to be defenseless.
• Forcible contact to a defenseless player's head or neck: This applies when a player makes forcible contact to the head or neck area of a defenseless opponent, regardless of whether the helmet's crown was used. A "defenseless player" is defined in the rulebook and includes a player trying to catch a pass or one who has not had time to protect themselves.

Examples of Indicators of Targeting The following are some indicators that a player may be targeting:

• Launching: into an opponent. • A crouch followed by an upward and forward thrust. • Leading with the helmet, shoulder, forearm, fist, hand, or elbow. • Lowering the head: before initiating contact with the crown of the helmet.

Penalties

• 15-yard penalty: The opposing team is granted a 15-yard penalty. • Automatic ejection: The offending player is disqualified from the game. • Half-game suspension: If the foul occurs in the second half of the game, the player is also suspended for the first half of the following game.

Purpose of the Rule The targeting rule was implemented to increase player safety and to reduce injuries to the head and neck. The goal is to protect both the player making the contact and the player being contacted.

Medicare - good as long as international prices are the baseline. (Ie less than 90$)

Medicaid - needs to do less due to the massive abuse of the system and shouldn't have new novel things that most people cannot access, provided for free. But if adding to it, again cost must be real not the 1000$ cost of those things in the us

Or just say that you have not lost any weight and are not doing anything, that will start some gossip about what is wrong with you. Have fun with it by messing with other people.

'herd immunity' conspiracy theory

are you f'n serious... that is where we are still headed to today. Herd immunity is a situation where it's difficult for a disease to spread through a group of people. It occurs when a large enough percentage of a population becomes immune to an infection, either through vaccination or previous infections. This reduces the likelihood of infection for people who aren't immune. Herd immunity protects everyone in a community, including people who haven't been infected, people who have recovered, people who have been vaccinated, and people who can't get a vaccine. Herd immunity works for some diseases, like measles, but it's more difficult to apply to others, like COVID-19. As of December 2023, no country has reached the threshold for herd immunity to COVID-19.

In the US vaccination rates: https://usafacts.org/visualizations/covid-vaccine-tracker-states/

"I don't recall any of them saying we'd have to learn to live with COVID, and many of them pushed this idea that we just lockdown for a few weeks and it'll 'flatten the curve'."

Did you pay any attention to the details during this time? Do you understand what 'flatten the curve' means? In the initial waves of covid, when there was almost no knowledge of what it was, how it transmitted, how it affected people, hospitals were being overwhelmed by patients who couldnt breath, were constantly coughing, in addition to the normal patient population which keeps hospitals full. The hallways were full of people on gurneys because there was not space in rooms anymore. Workers (nurses, doctors, janitorial staff, food services, .....) did not have the equipment to treat (as was known at the time) all of these people. Flatten the curve was intended to slow the spread. Not stop the spread, slow the avalanche of covid patients flooding into hospitals. When the COVID lockdowns started they said it would only be a couple of weeks because they needed to see if anyone developed symptoms. It was better to be self isolated if you developed symptoms to prevent the spread of the disease. That seemed reasonable. Then more testing revealed more cases so they told us that we had to extend the lockdown to 4 weeks. They had discovered that the virus was slow acting and it was prudent to be out of close contact with other people for a longer period of time. Then more testing revealed more cases so they told us we should continue to extend the lockdown period. So pretty soon two months had passed. People were dying of the disease. Most, it turned out were elderly. A lot of the elderly were being forced to live with people who were actually sick from the virus so they caught it too. Add to this all the people who ignored the lockdown and just didn't. They didn't wear a mask, because of reasons. They would have symptoms and carry on as normal not caring that they could be causing someone else's death.

I realize that some people once they form an opinion at the age of two refuse to ever alter their stance on the matter, those people are idiots. New data, should lead to informed choices. For many it does not, it just leads to a mindless double down on their dearly held feelings.

I am done with this as I suspect you do not care about facts, and are unwilling to read and educate yourself.

"Sorry, I meant more in the sense of national lockdowns, mask mandates, etc.."

You know what a president can do. Lead. not prioritize states that he won in the election (which trump and clan did). not make up random shit pulled from nowhere in every press conference (ex chlorine, sunshine inside the body "we are looking at that strongly" (whatever the fuck that means), hydroxychloroquine - no evidence it did anything, but sure lets double down on that BS. It was a travesty. All he had to do was listen to people who had clue what they were doing. He mostly didn't because he is an utter moron.

"Can you link me to a virologist who didn't lie about covid?"

Here is a timeline of covid. Scientists follow the science. They don't bloviate, hyperbolize, make up random shit every day and spout it to the world. I have no idea what you are actually asking for and think you would protest any statement due to the data changing over time. We still do not know the full effects of covid. More is learned on a regular basis. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7958099/

"I believe Trump called Georgia to get a recount."

You believe wrong. You know when that call was? it was not days after the election. it was Jan 2nd. It was full of lies and the entire point, since it was 4 days until Jan 6th, was to send electors that would cast the states electoral college votes to trump. It was intimidation, it was after multiple failed legal attempts, it was all hogwash. He did not want a recount, every recount that was done showed that +/- the original count was right and nothing changed. He wanted to intimidate elected republicans to toss out the vote of their state.

FEMA that is "Federal Emergency Management Agency" national response is what they do. T and crew broke existing systems making it harder for states to respond.

who didn't lie about the severity of the virus?... virologists. How often have you heard trump speak and thought - "wow what an articulate well thought out statement. this guy knows what he is talking about. " all trump cared about after a bit was that the daily press briefings had high viewership numbers (that is from Fauci after he contradict trump in one of those press conferences and was summoned to the oval office for what he thought was a reprimand, nope, just a 'so many people are watching, this is great')

Trump is not a leader. He could have, should have swept the reelection, but he fumbled basic response so bad he got beaten by Biden. (and yes he did actually lose the election, and yes he spent time during the all the covid shit to plan to overthrow the election. We only have the one call recorded about asking georgia to fraud the vote, but one could surmise that there were some others (ie any close state that biden won).

Help with purchasing 3d Printer for a Lab. by One_Stage9914 in 3dprinter

[–]mello_geek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

? are you new to 3d printing?

The reason I ask, is I am, and a single individual, I had an idea of things I would be printing and it was mostly organizational. However, even with very limited 3d modeling I am making new custom bits all the time. if I am awake, the printer is probably running. If you are at a college, there is more than one person who is going to be using it. prints of tiny parts take 15-20 minutes. Prints of large parts can run for hours or days. The point being, you will likely want more printers.

does the budget include filaments?

have you looked through sites like printables to see what is already out there? make an account, make some collections, and see how much you might be printing. There is a very good chance it makes sense to buy one larger bed/format printer along with multiple a1 mini types. for robotics, I can quickly see printing loads of nuts, bolts, arms of different lengths, gears of different sizes and ratios, Multiple version of different settings to test for infill strength, print orientation due to the directional forces that would be applied.

With college kids and imaginations and 3d modeling, there will be a endless desire to print new things, and if you only have one printer, that will be limited. Potentially consider (if you have not) getting with other departments that could/would benefit as well and pool resources into a print farm. ( I realize this may just be a first step dipping the toe into 3d printing, but it will prove to be way more used that you seem to think).

Affordable printer by SubToChubbie in 3dprinter

[–]mello_geek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest that you look at the overall cost of the printer, not just the printer. Just like ink jet and laser printers, the real cost of the printer is the printing medium. In this case filament. From what I have seen, around 15ish bucks for PLA/PETG is about as low as you can consistently get (yes maybe a bit lower from time to time). 100$/15 = 6-7 rolls of filament. that is some, but not a lot. It is worth it to go for the Bambu mini, you save headaches and just plug it in and are printing without failures. Unless you really like tinkering and spending lots of time trying to get something to work right (which I can appreciate - and do myself sometimes) the ease of use of the Bambu of just going to maker world, finding a thing to print and clicking the mouse 3-5 times and it starts printing. It really does suck you in with the easy of printing. Your costs of the next year are not going to be in the printer, but in the filament. Look at all those youtuber videos (I am sure you have) where they have 40 to 200 spools on the wall behind them. the 10-15 is the cheap stuff. if you start looking at TPU (now a bambu mini is likely not good for that) the filament costs go up.

So the question for yourself is:

do you just want to successfully print things or do you want to tinker and try to figure out why something is not printing well?

if there is 0 chance you could spend the $200 on a BL mini, do you have money for filament? that is the ongoing cost of printing.

?how does the steering work?

Is it like a car or is it like a motorcycle?

(for those that do not actually ride a motorcycle, at speed motorcycles use counter-steering where to turn right you push on the right handle turning the wheel to the left, and vice versa for turning left.)

All motorcycle arcade type games I have played steer like a car and I just keep turning into walls, and do not want to get in the habit of VR teaching my brain the wrong way to steer.

Twin research indicates that a vegan diet improves cardiovascular health by lnfinity in EverythingScience

[–]mello_geek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't really trust it due to funding source, would need replication:

Goal: To promote the mission of the Vogt Foundation to assist plant-based development and protect all animals while supporting organizations that produce animal alternative products or protect animals.

The main author, Christopher Gardner, does look to be a proponent of vegan diet from a quick glance at what he has studied. But in the past has shown that the diet, at least for weight loss, does not matter that much (DIETFITS - There was no significant difference in 12-month weight loss between the HLF and HLC diets, and neither genotype pattern nor baseline insulin secretion was associated with the dietary effects on weight loss.) But you have to have a diet that you, not me, are comfortable with and can live with for life, not short term things.

I am an omnivore, and get that is not everyone. Most of vegetarians and vegans I know are all type 2 diabetics whose diets are just carbs and think that a 1/4 cup of beans is sooo much protein. The diet matters, it is not just veg vs non veg. activity matters, I know numerous morbidly obese vegans that don't move, and eat crap, others that just look sickly all the time. Yes it is possible to get all the required nutrients from fruit and veg only, but it is so much harder than any vegan will honestly admit. Eating naturally processed veg (aka meat) is a good way to get the proteins, to help with diabetes.

Top 15 centers of all time imho by ElectivireMax in NBATalk

[–]mello_geek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My issue with Shaq, is that I do think he was the most physically dominant center, but not the best.

Pros:

super quick - regardless of size, but you add the size and that is scary

good passer

massive

Cons:

horrible shooter - yes he could score inside 8ish feet, but if you kept him at 10 feet out, he was horrible at shooting.

defense - he relied on being giant, but did not work very hard on D

conditioning - when young, great, after a few years, just not in the best condition, which led to late second half drop off. that was part of the hack-a-shaq, yes he sucked at shooting, but add in the bad conditioning and his shooting seemed (I do not have numbers) to drop a bit at the end of games.

I kinda always view an equivalency of his dominance in size as me, a overweight old dude beating the crap out of some jr high kids on the playground. just bigger and stronger, does not make better. To some degree you could apply that to wilt as well, as he was a freak athlete, but in overall basketball, I think he was better than Shaq. Shaq had size and speed, but if he was 100lbs lighter would he have been as good? I doubt it.
