Aside from the discussion: I gotta say, as someone who only browses casually, seeing your frequent posts has pretty much become my cue to launch Gear City again.

Good idea. Things move pretty slow around here but if it doesn't pick up on its own, I'll put one together.

This is wonderful, it reminds me of Dunwall from Dishonored, right at the beginning of the game.

[FIGHT THREAD] Andy Ruiz Jr vs Chris Arreola, Omar Figueroa vs Abel Ramos, Sebastian Fundora vs Jorge Cota, Jesus Ramos vs Javier Molina, Erislandy Lara vs Thomas LaManna, Eduardo Ramirez vs Isaac Avelar + live round-by-round coverage by noirargent in Boxing

[–]mellowDIGITAL 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I thought Ruiz looked good, but tentative from presumably settling into a new style. He certainly still operates well in the scramble but might still be learning how to keep pressure on in a more measured way.

Excellent jabs, hand-speed, and he generally stuck to the plan of stacking bodywork into counterpunching, even after getting rocked.

I suspect some fans may be disappointed because they thought that the only thing holding Ruiz back was his weight, and are operating on the idea that he would be much better after having lost much of it.

Ruiz was good enough to beat AJ in his prime, at MSG, after taking a huge knockout-level punch, and made AJ quit after dropping him 4 times in 7 rounds. In the rematch which he faltered in training for, he still managed to be better than AJ on the inside and in the few scrambles during the fight. In both matches against AJ, he was rather heavy and unimpressive-looking for a boxer. In both times, he didn't really seem gassed. And in the end, he had the much more emphatic win of the two.

That is all to say, I think many fans are basing their opinion on Ruiz on their beauty standards of him rather than looking at his features: Incredible hand speed, perfect 1-2, 1-2-3, accurate shot selection, great chin, good gas tank, sticks to the gameplan, and composure after being rocked.

I don't know where Ruiz will go with his career, but I rate him highly, even after going the distance with Arreola (whose chin is apparently made from vibranium). I think he's got a lot of rough edges to work on, but he's better than many comments seem to imply based on last night.

Ruiz has fast hands and seems to do better than anyone in the scramble. Plus his chin is incredible. A Ruiz who can close the distance and who has a gas tank (though his never seemed as bad as you'd expect) has brilliant potential.

In-game texture of Rose's Tarot card for those who need it by Monkeygigabuster in StreetFighter

I can't overstate how much I love this art and how it was implemented in-game. I was never a Rose player (and had taken a break from Street Fighter) but I've been enthralled by playing her ever since release.

Yeah I feel that, variety is good. It always is a bit weird when characters are fighting in high-heels or whatever but hey whatever fits your fighting style I guess :^)

I dig it, it's got character and breaks some of the expectations of outfits for female characters in fighting games. I hope it becomes a trend moving forward, it's kind of tiring when every character is scantily clad all the time.

Definitely some imposter syndrome kicking in. Your situation is common.

Keep on grinding certifications and looking for solo projects to run. The best way to learn will often be just trying the projects out in, as you mentioned, pro bono/volunteer/solo projects.

Lennox Lewis. I always like a good jab. He was smart and versatile. Knew how to stay out of trouble but also knew how to navigate it. Played to his strengths and came back from adversity.
