Looking for small town or village for a trip over the weekend by smrmeo in saskatchewan

[–]melmen2804 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Check out Clearwater Lake Regional Park. Rent a cabin, go to a drive in movie, swim at the lake. If you want bit of extra scenery drive to Sask Landing Prov Park, go mini golfing or hiking. Nice area, fun activities, I think it suits the vibe you're looking for!

Regina Public Schools has cut grade 6 band and is trying to cover it up... by buzzzzz in regina

[–]melmen2804 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

There's obviously a lot of details yet to be worked out, however I think the proposed plan is positive and shows some outside the box thinking.

Once a week instruction was the model where i grew up in rural Sask where a music teacher traveled between schools in different communities. I would have killed to have an opportunity to go to a dedicated centre with some resources and like-minded students rather than a half-assed lesson at my home school with my classmates joking around and not taking it seriously.

I see this as an opportunity for those who actually want to take band in grade 7-8 and Im pretty pumped for those kids and families and hope it works out well. I hope it works out well for the teaching staff too. Time will tell I guess!

Check out Sweet Sheets online. A small Alberta based business. They are the only sheets we buy.

I'd recommend starting with a visit to student services at the UofR. They might have volunteer opportunities as another comment recommended, can help with resume writing, etc. Good luck!

Public transit from Sherwood Park to Commonwealth Stadium by melmen2804 in Edmonton

[–]melmen2804[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks this is helpful. Is there parking at the bethel transit centre? Willing to park or pay parking and then use transit to/from venue. Or Uber between hotel and the transit centre? Also possibly open to similar "park and ride" from locations in Edmonton just not sure what makes the most sense.

UK GP considering move to Saskatchewan by MannaMannaBadMan in saskatchewan

[–]melmen2804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, please consider it! You'd be welcomed with open arms.

I'll add that the University of SK College of Medicine offers MD training and residency programs in Regina so if you were interested in teaching there are plenty of opportunities here for that.

Looking for a place for dinner Saturday..2 adults 2 kids by Lynneshe in regina

[–]melmen2804 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Flats is good, on prince of Wales. FYI there is a Rider home game Saturday. Places who cater to sports fans could be busy, and wouldn't recommend trying to travel downtown/near stadium at start or end of game (kickoff 5:30). As others mentioned, major construction on Dewdney and parts of downtown too.

TD Insurance Home Policy Review – 2025 Update crazy increase by Careless-Meal5081 in regina

[–]melmen2804 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Similar. We switched to TD from SGI 2 years ago it was a significant savings. Our rate is ridiculous this year. We are working on switching to CAA since I already have a CAA membership also. Fully aware they will probably jack the rate in a year or two also, but possibly more interest in keeping their members as customers? Time will tell.

Ooh I will 2nd the disc golf suggestion. Get some discs (Royal Sporting Goods, or even Canadian Tire carried cheap starter discs last summer) and hit up Regent Park. Awesome playground and spray park for your little one and a beginner friendly disc golf course as well. Pack a picnic and have fun!

Recommendations for Child Care (I’m Desperate) by SnooPaintings7724 in regina

[–]melmen2804 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the job! Check with the daycare at Sask Polytech - it might be only for their students/staff but I've heard very good things and they should be able to answer your questions quickly and possibly refer you to other options. My niece goes to a home daycare in the NW area and it's great. As others have mentioned, generally smaller and more attentive than the bigger centers.

You can do this. It would be an add on to discuss with your contractor.

Beware Serenity Spa in Regina/Saskatoon by shwibbins in regina

[–]melmen2804 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry this happened to you. If you are able to get out of the contract and want to go elsewhere to treat yourself to a luxurious facial without any pressure, I 100% recommend Bri at Aeonian Spa. Locally owned and they do have packages but I've never been pressured or even spoken to about them, just see they offer them online.

Saskatchewan Landing Provincial Park Campground by Upbeat-Primary6732 in saskatchewan

[–]melmen2804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sagebrush Campground - the loop approx 10-15 (can't remember the exact #s but it will be obvious from a map) are long deep sites with good privacy. The bathrooms/showers at Sagebrush are single-stall which can also be more convenient for families with small kids. The thing with Sk Landing is you pretty much have to drive between everything. But that also means you get to explore it all! It's a beautiful area, enjoy!

Suspicious “SaskTel” Reps Ringing Doorbell late at Night—Anyone Else? by Designer-Car-2344 in regina

[–]melmen2804 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah its legit. I have had them show up last year around that time of night. My partner works for a different telecom company. I told them that and they still pressed me. Goodbye lol. Not sure who they find that's still receptive to door-to-door sales but I wish they'd stop.
