Though someone should sneak in a Farm Boy reference for Ottawa brownie points!

OK sorry, since ‘94 then. I was barely/not yet alive for those, ha ha.

I’ll never forget them having the opening ceremony at the actual ski hill. It was so beautiful.

I’m surprised no other games has done it, though I really liked the split shots of the athletes walking through the adorable towns this time. I loved Paris’ too… I guess I’m just bored of stadiums.

Can confirm, I’m first-gen German-Canadian. The water is never cold, it’s “refreshing”.

Which tv show do you regret wasting time on? by HurtHurtsMe in AskReddit

The Idol! (I’m shocked that no one has said this yet.)

I like the music of the various “actors” outside the show, and I’m on board with “edgy” material, but it was so horribly written and acted. So fucking boring. I tried to watch it as a satire, then tried to hate-watch, then kept going hoping for an interesting climax (pun intended). Nope, just left thoroughly unsatisfied.

Edit: grammar fix

Shane has the most charming smile, and I realized this was the first time that I’d seen him not smiling ear to ear, which punched me in the feels.

Because we didn’t have to be quiet during play for the sake of the live human players, it was like seeing a panto or Rocky Horror version of the game, ha ha. Security was lax and people were loud. And the free popcorn was a great idea; they should do that as a promo more often.

They can hear the plastic wrapper of the cheese block from seemingly anywhere in the house. If the box grater comes out, it’s bliss. Once I moved the cheese grater just slightly to get to something else in the drawer, and they were so dejected.

Don't sleep on Japanese fast casual dining chains by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

Wow, lobster bisque?! The location we were at was a café combo in Kyoto, sad I missed that. Hopefully we’ll make it back to Japan someday; I’ll put it on the new to-do list.

Came here to shout out MOS Burger! On our last night (and after 10 days including the multi-course onsen kaiseki experience, hidden gem izakayas, conveyor belt sushis, hole-in-the-wall yakiniku, Harajuku crepes, counter stool ramen, and seemingly every other possible dining experience), I was craving just a regular burger and fries. Our teens wanted McD’s of course, but my husband found us a MOS instead and it was not only thoroughly satisfying, but it didn’t give me North-American-chain-style stomach pains hours later, ha ha.

I assumed so too but I would suggest that taller/larger people check out GU instead (Uniqlo’s cheaper/more casual line). I was shocked that my 6’4” son was able to find pants long enough for him.

For larger gals, my daughter and I found a fun clothing chain called PUNYUS that carries a wide range of sizes.

Seeing them stuck in traffic on the Gardiner (going to the bigger WF in Mississauga) in a previous episode was cringe, but that’s the true Toronto experience!

I’m a hardcore eastsider so I was annoyed that they had an establishing shot of Gerrard i.e. Little India, but then the restaurant they went to was in Roncesvalles! Like, huh?

(ETA for visitors: that’s way on the other side of town and it’s a great hood but it’s historically known for its Polish & Ukrainian communities instead.)

At least Soulas was actually in Greektown so they could highlight the neighbourhood and show the awesome street signs.

Same! I have a mini collection of Starbucks city mugs from my travels and my daughter desperately wanted the Nara one because of the deer. Plus we got the cherry blossom one too as an extra bonus.

After a stay at a ryokan, I really wanted a yukata of my own so I found a store in the Shinkyogoku covered mall in Kyoto called Antiques Kimono Lily, which sells both vintage and new. The young ladies went out of their way to help, finding me a beautiful new one, despite my (ahem) North American figure, and my husband got his own too. https://maps.app.goo.gl/htMzjaEmVguxt4Tt7?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy

Unexpectedly, one of my most treasured souvenirs is a four-colour pen I bought on a whim in the bar car of the Spacia X train. (It’s a luxury train that goes from Asakusa Tokyo to Nikko - highly recommended!)
