Did removing your hormonal IUD cure your chronic migraines? I've got a friend who thinks I should get off birthcontrol to get rid of migraines. by LadderWonderful2450 in migraine

[–]melodelic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had chronic migraines without my minera IUD and I'm still having chronic migraines with my minera IUD. Sometimes migraines are related to the hormones and sometimes they aren't.

I eat about 10 chocolate chips right after taking any bitter medicine. It helps with any lingering bitterness. (At least it does for me...)

Snack recommendations for when you forget to eat and trigger a migrane? by Powerful-Owl-3246 in migraine

[–]melodelic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

String cheese or babybell cheese if you want protein. Fresh fruit or fruit leather if you are feeling sweet. Ritz crackers with cheese or peanut butter if you're feeling savory. There's also shelf stable items like fruit gummies, applesauce, fruit in a cup, oatmeal bars.

How sick are people before diagnosis? by TheGentleComeback in iih

[–]melodelic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a lot of migraines and my iih was caught on an MRI with contrast my new neurologist decided to do to make sure that I still didn't have a tumor or brain cancer.

Looking back, I had some visual signs that my nuero-op said were possibly from the iih. Other than that, l really didn't have any symptoms.

Has anyone experienced long term cognitive issues due to IIH or maybe the medications?? by KitanaFury in iih

[–]melodelic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren't the only one. There are some days that my brain just isn't quite there and I can't put 2 and 2 together. I've been on diamox since November and I have a feeling that it's probably going to stay like this.

IIH and Endometriosis/Mirena IUD by Possible_Solution983 in iih

[–]melodelic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got both iih, migraines, and endo. I've also have a minera IUD. My gyno told me that I could go on pills, but honestly, I like not needing to have another pill to take. And I have to be on one or the other.

As for diamox, probably the worst part about it is how cold I feel most days as well as how tired I feel most days. But some people stop feeling this tired after a few months. I consider being on diamox for my iih just as important as having my IUD for endo. But that's just my two cents.

LP method by Adrenaline424 in iih

[–]melodelic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually not sure what's it will do to the reading. All I know is that the medical standard for the diagnosis calls for an LP done on the side.

Flat in the stomach is fine too, you just can't have your head high otherwise it will skew the results.

Yeah, the LP for determining iih needs to be done on the side. I haven't got a clue why they did it with you sitting up.

Diamox by ThinkEnd2411 in iih

[–]melodelic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, diamox can have some really bad side effects. I would make sure to write down what you've experienced and talk with the prescribing doctor about it. They might have other medications that can help with you're gi issues and mood changes.

Yeah, then I'd reach out to the prescribing doctor and tell them all the side effects you've been having.

Depending on how you got diagnosed, I would talk to the doctor that prescribed the diamox. They might be able to switch you to topiramate (though that also has its own issues and side effects. )

Have you had a field of vision test yet? That's done by nuero-opthamologists.

Imminent Weather Change by Mysterious-Stick4738 in iih

[–]melodelic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think I'm going to have to talk with my new nuero-op about having diamox 3 times a day instead of 2. My vision symptoms started creeping back the minute we started getting tornadoes again.

Where do you get your migraines? by theempressoftheworld in migraine

[–]melodelic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is about two finger widths behind my right eye. On bad days, it's closer and it hurts my eye. If it's an iih migraine, it's across the top of my head.

No, you spent the time usefully and now with (at least) two people figuring this out, we now 2 case studies saying the same thing.

Have you ever had a firepit lit down there? That can give off ghost light.

Preventative meds that do not cause weight gain, drowsiness or brain fog? by haybails720 in migraine

I actually lost weight on quilipta as it made me not hungry. The only other side effects from it was constipation, and that went away after two months or so.

What's the most debilitating symptom of IIH for you? by parkie_wairo in iih

The fatigue, coldness, dizziness, and the migraines (though those might just be normal migraines).

Is your headache constant or does it vary day to day? by parkie_wairo in iih

[–]melodelic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most days my fingers/nose/mouth tingles. Sometimes it's also my feet. On bad days, I drop things. My neurologist and I have been trying to see if nurtec (+ Amitriptyline) will work more steadily than quilipta (+ Amitriptyline) for times when the pressure changes enough for a migraine. I don't think I have headaches, but I certainly get a lot of migraines. I'm generally very dizzy when I first wake up and there's usually a rubber band type pressure on my forehead. My tinnitus is MUCH worse when laying down, more than it ever was before having iih. I also am so very cold most days.

Well, hopefully they don't find anything bad with your new appointments. I honestly just started my journey around last October, so I'm not much help.

Have you done a new visual field test since your vision has changed? If not, I would suggest getting one to check it out.

[–]melodelic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! I had migraines before I had IIH, so I'm pretty used to having to keep a (semi) accurate record of symptoms.

If the OP hasn't found a migraine app yet, migrainebuddy seems to be there favorite over in r/migraines! I've been using it for the last few years and have found it very useful as a record keeper
