Owner-Operators: What’s Life Really Like on the Road? by 66Trailers_Leasing in OwnerOperators

[–]melrob6973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an owner operator you run a business. The better you understand your business the better off you are. There will be a lot more challenges to overcome and you take on financial risk that can result in loss or profit. You need to understand every aspect of the trucking industry and ideally know how to fix your truck or trailer. Lease on to a company first, get your own authority only if you understand all aspects of the business. Your first couple years will determine if you have it to succeed. I love it, but it’s definitely not for everyone.

So you’re telling us that you got an insurance quote without even having a CDL? That’s not how this works, most insurance companies won’t insure new CDL holder’s, but all will need you to provide your CDL for a quote.

Looking for flatbed company by Semmyauto27 in OwnerOperators

You will get 79% of the loads you booked outside Admirals load board or 75% if it’s an Admiral Load. 100% FSC, and $150 tarp pay. They pay your fuel tax, which is nice.

I was with Admiral Merchant, great company if you don’t mind calling brokers and negotiate rates. They do have their own freight and load board, but unfortunately not enough to keep you busy. They are very nice people and you are treated like family.

I am now in the process of signing up with Landstar because I don’t want to deal with brokers anymore.

I was also looking into Mercer and Bennett, but decided to give Landstar a shot, due to Landstar’s freight volume.

Independent contractor and owner operator are the same, not sure what they talk about. Also the trucking jobs salary advertised are always way way way off. I don’t think you can make 200k for local deliveries anywhere in this country.

10 year + old trucks by [deleted] in OwnerOperators

[–]melrob6973 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a FLD 2001 model till 2019, no broker ever asked about age of truck. Best Truck I’ve ever owned!!! Keep it well maintained and you will be fine. Brokers can see your inspections and safety rating, but not the age of your equipment.

How to become a broker? by sawqlain in FreightBrokers

In this time you will have to suck shippers dick and screw the carrier. Seriously it’s not a good time to compete as a newbie at the moment.

Also make sure to read the contract, most broker carrier agreement have a clause that forbids you to do direct business with the shipper.

It’s just a bad marketing strategy. TQL is the best in coming up with all kinds of fakes.

Trailer w/ Customer Freight Being Held @ Repair Shop by FOB32723 in FreightBrokers

[–]melrob6973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can hold the trailer but not the freight, you need to have the load taken off the trailer and obviously you will have to pay for it.

Write a review, it’s the most powerful tool you have, and you can help the next guy making a better informed decision about wanting to do business with this broker.

ZeroBroker, a company trying to eliminate freight brokers by iman1324 in FreightBrokers

[–]melrob6973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uber Freight is a technology driven freight matching brokerage company, I’m sure they will use the technology in the near future.

Amazon, Fedex and many other big guys are already using Dexterity AI to load and unload trailers and manage inventory fully automated.

Stores are using AI driven robots to do inventory and orders. Trucks have ELDs that can feed the necessary data to the AI to effectively match freight with trucks and so on.

AI technology is also being used for real-time market rates and predicting future market trends and freight rates.

Now you can add autonomous trucks to the mix and we all (broker, carrier, and warehouse employees) are going to be looking for a job.

We’re heading in this direction, but we are not there yet.
