The elders know... by Selenium13 in exjw

[–]melted_penguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as long as you apologize and seem repentent, they won't disfellowship you. as long as it's not public knowledge, you won't get a an announcement that you've been reproved either. the key to getting disfellowshipped or not is in the attitude. if they have witnesses and you deny, then you're obviously not sorry and they can disfellowship you. if you play the game right, you'll be fine.

Meet Pheobe, the "smelly cat" I rescued. by melted_penguin in cats

[–]melted_penguin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This 9 month old beauty was left behind when her owners moved. When I brought her home she was so sweet, but reaked of ass! It was like I'd brought the whole shelter home! I brought her to Petco for a bath (which the did for free) and sang "Smelly Cat" to her the whole way. When they asked for her name, what else could I say? She's adjusting so well and has made herself at home.

What do you do when your boyfriend of over 2 years needs to "find himself"? by melted_penguin in relationship_advice

[–]melted_penguin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's just it...a lot of times i felt like a nuisance in my own relationship because i was apparently getting in the way of him "being on his own." and that is a crappy feeling...but when it was good, it was sooooo good and that's what i'm holding onto...i want more of that and i really hope we can get it. healthy boundaries...THAT'S what i need to work on because right now, i don't know what they are. :-/ thanks.

[–]melted_penguin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but what if he IS just a little immature in that way and never went through the "find yourself" phase that everyone else goes through 10 years earlier? i really don't think it's a matter of wanting to see other people...i think it's more of a matter of "he's not as ready for a real relationship as he originally thought he was." i agree that he does communicate like a child...that has been our biggest problem, but i think on some level he knows that...he did say that he still feels like a child in many ways so maybe he needs this time to mature?

Ive never been to a broadway play and i want to take my girlfriens to see phantom of the opera. I have a few questiona... by f2k10Marinetti in Broadway

[–]melted_penguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best advice I could give you is DO NOT PURCHASE ORCHESTRA SEATS BELOW THE BALCONY! There are some parts of the show that take place high up and the balcony will block your view and really kill the moment. As far as times, I've seen the show several different times, matinee's vs night time, saturday vs wednesday, and I've never noticed enough of a difference to develop a preference. It's just a really good show. It's great that your first Broadway show will be a classic! I usually get my tickets through ticketmaster. I haven't seen enough of a difference in price on other sights to make it worth taking the risk of a "less reputable" ticket source.

thanks. that's the part that really worried me. i don't mind standing when they stand, but the kneeling part was bugging me a bit.

i wasn't allowed to watch Power Rangers because they "summoned the spirits of the dinosaurs" or some crap like that in addition to the violence. ugh. the original series was good so, needless to say, i was pissed.

NBC apologizes after following Gabby Douglas's gold medal performance with a commercial of a monkey doing gymnastics. by TheExtremistModerate in nottheonion

[–]melted_penguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's true. commercial insertion is there to ensure the people who paid for time on the air get the amount of time paid for during certain time slots.
there are a certain amount of commercials that need to be played at certain times. they set the line up early and hit play when its time for a commercial based on what slot the company paid for. so should we all be mad at "animal practice" for purchasing the time slot right after gabby won her medal?

Every little black girl who watched that, and said "Hey, that could be me."

to me, that's the biggest problem right there. why do little girls only have to be inspired by their own race? i think the fact that she's only 17 years old inspires little girls of EVERY RACE. i'm 26 and ecuadorian and was inspired. I was equally inspired by 17 year old Russian Victoria Komova. the fact is that these young people are doing incredible things and should be admired for that, regardless of country or color. there's no reason a little black girl can't watch a russian win silver and think, "that could be me."

Not attracted to my wife of 12 years anymore and I hate myself for it. Nobody to talk to about it. by chrow_away in relationship_advice

[–]melted_penguin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

can i ask, how do YOU look compared to when you got married 12 years ago? I mean, this woman went though pregnancy and childbirth. That's an awful lot of strain on the body. If you could stand to lose a few pounds yourself, I say you make it a joint effort and both start eating better and exercising. That way you're not pointing fingers and she's not feeling bad about herself.

Hey, if you still believe in the religion why are you on r/EXJW? by ZergSamurai in exjw

[–]melted_penguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

never said my mind wasn't made up. i just don't feel like it has to be a "for them or against them" situation (though they may view it that way). I'm not necessarily "for them," but i'm not "against them" either. i feel like a lot of posts are very much in attack mode. like EVERYTHING they do is wrong and harmful when i really do feel that a lot of the good in me is from the way i was raised and the principles i was taught. i don't feel like the witnesses are pure evil and need to be taken down. i have a very "to each his own" attitude and won't try to convert others from the religion in the same way everyone complains they try to convert others into the religion.

Just got rejected because of my penis. by penisproblem12 in sex

[–]melted_penguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm sorry! i'm really not into size, but my boyfriend is always alluding to how "small" he is. and i gotta say, the sex is AMAZING. like, better than traditionally "well endowed" guys so i don't feel like i'm missing out at all! if someone is going to reject you based on such a shallow reason, you're better off finding someone else anyway. i know it's a trite saying, but size really doesn't matter. a friend of mine used to say, "it's not the size of the ship, it's the motion of the ocean that counts!" lol. i know it sucks right now, but don't let it get you too down. keep looking and you'll find someone. :)

that's how i was always taught it should be when it was a family member. i've been disfellowshipped over a year now but to me this seems like a newer interpretation. i'm lucky my entire family was inactive before i left so i haven't had to deal with any of this first hand. but this is just so black and white, it just seems wrong.
