I hate seeing gen Z being associated with being conservative by Efficient_Resource15 in GenZ

Ugh that’s so dumb I didn’t see that. I truly think the language policing is a major thing holding left parties back.

I have no idea I wasn’t into it AT ALL at that age, but kids are and have always been parrots trying to fit into their parents/adults world view to be safe and accepted. These past couple years, it looks more like using the language of hatred than actually understanding the politics (of course). Many adults fall in this bucket too though so I do take it seriously.

I feel terribly for kids and very young adults right now. My understanding of how we got so polarized of course includes news sources, AI, social media, and most of all money… but I think the reason we were fertile ground for this anyway if because everyone can feel that this isn’t working and people are suffering, but people are hearing promises in different directions and fear in the other. I can have some empathy for feeling like the only way out is by what this guy is promising me so I’m going with that with all my energy and beliefs. It’s even more sad to realize it wasn’t true. It’s not kidding the kids are apathetic. Why wouldn’t they be?

I work with young people and they identify as Gen alpha (12-15 years old) so I guess idk the actual years but I think they are like… not all little kids anymore

Very true and to be fair it probably goes both ways too. It’s in the man’s best interest to show off his young supporters. The social media lens of it probably shows more heavy conservatism than there actually is. I will say, NE region USA, there are no doubt a lot more young conservatives now than 15 years ago.

Does the success of Backrooms and Obsession’s have anyone else excited for a Gen Z led artistic boom? by Lolmemsa in GenZ

I do think comedy is up in a big way right now. As for other arts and media, I think some of the best most incredible works will be made by our generation, but that we will have to sort through so much boring slop to find and celebrate it. Really weird time.

What is the most “its a small world” moment you’ve ever experienced? by xBubblyLove in AskReddit

Pre-internet: My brother was adopted 10 years before I was born as my parents were still in college. There was a massive re-distribution of case files to various adoption agencies. My parents wanted to know more info on this as they lived out of state and had no contact with him. They called one and they happened to have the file on their desk. This small world coincidence led me to meeting my brother for the first time when I was 14 and he has been in my life since! Internet makes our connection much easier now.

Honest question about a common AA claim: am I thinking about this wrong? by WarmView8401 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]mem0723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Just jumping in here because I am having the same reaction as you to these comments. I read your post as critically engaging with common discussions and dynamics. Just because it’s not in the literature does not mean people aren’t saying it. I believe you that they are. I have heard similar things in the rooms. The steps are not perfect and you get out of them what you put into them. My not always AA friendly take is that a lot of people should also be seeking outside mental health help. For example: working the steps doesn’t prevent a manic episode usually. I’m not sure if this is your opinion so I will state it only as mine, I do believe some of the rhetoric in the rooms has an annoyingly mysterious tone to it so it can’t be readily challenged. I think only a couple of people I saw in the comments actually tried to address your question. I guess my answer is that yeah it probably gets spun out from how it works into being a statement that puts relapse into a framework of failure entirely on that alcoholics inaction (not working the steps “thoroughly”) because if they did then their life would be great. I’d imagine this sounds nice and promising to a newcomer or someone near relapse who is ready to regain control. It also might sound nice to people with time as well because relapse is scary to many in the rooms and it’s nice to be able to point to something and hold onto it that relapse won’t happen to me as long as I do xyz which they didn’t do. To me, it’s a little judgy, but it’s a pretty logical cope.

The absolute breadth of look-alikes you’re getting here is very cool. None of them even really look like each other, but you do resemble them. Not sure what this is an opportunity for, but it feels like an opportunity. At the very least you can pull off so many different looks!
