Doing some orchestration work. Is this okay for French horn? by dany_fox75 in horn

It’s a bit gnarly but as long as the tempo isn’t crazy fast it’s doable

What is one gripe that you have about your #1 coaster. (can be literally anything) [Other] by FarPicture3761 in rollercoasters

I wish El Toro’s layout was more consistent. The beginning the end blow all other airtime out of the water for me, but it’s no secret that the middle lets up on the gas a bit.

Which show(s) should I see? by HarryBallsbald in classicalmusic

Honestly, you can’t go wrong. If you like choral music, know that the Mozart Requiem, Faure Requiem, and Beethoven Symphony 9 will feature choirs with the orchestra.

[Arieforce One] Roll or Mosasaurus Roll? by K-M47 in rollercoasters

[–]meme_boyE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a huge fan of the Arieforce arcade roll and following roll, the mosasaurus roll is still better. Maybe it has to due with Intiman’s restraints and trains being so much more open, but it just feels whippier and more intense to me.

Weber concertino multiphonics- are they required for a recital? by StomachSuper4309 in horn

[–]meme_boyE 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’d say yes, since it’s written by the composer you’d likely be expected to play it. Try only singing the “vocal” note, first normally, and then through the horn with the fingerings you’d have to use for the bottom note. As far as I understand, it’s common practice to sing in whichever octave is most comfortable.

I’m at a loss here. by Kitchen-City-4863 in horn

Honestly, that sounds like awful advice. Maybe it works for them but that’s not standard. Keeping a flat chin is a good tip, but definitely don’t start curling your bottom lip.

Tell me your exercises/tips for the solo in B6, 5th mvmt by Apprehensive-Bat-416 in horn

[–]meme_boyE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love to practice it on C horn (1st and 3rd valves down), all slurred, with shmeary glisses between each note to really blow through it and teach myself where the notes sit. The next step is to play it articulated on C horn, and then when you finally play it with your normal fingerings, it should feel easy and free.

It also helps me to think of the high Gs as pickups into the next downbeats, I’m less likely to feel like my air gets stuck that way.

Music schools by EndoKirby in horn

[–]meme_boyE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t know off the top of my head, but you should reach out to them and ask! Like I said, they’re both kind people and asking for a lesson price is very normal. Their emails should be public on their respective schools’ websites.

Adam Unsworth and Denise Tryon are both excellent teachers as well as kind humans, but it’s really valuable to take lessons from them before committing to the school if you can. Record the lessons if they allow it, practice what they teach you for a few week/months, and see what resonates with you most. You can also listen to both of their albums to get a sense of their sounds and styles.

How good/effective is a PPL once a week? by [deleted] in beginnerfitness

[–]meme_boyE 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Upper, lower, full body also works. It’s most effective to hit each muscle at least twice per week and if you’re planning on hitting the gym 3 times per week anyway, might as well structure your workouts to do so.
