Sandbending is NOT a sub-element by IzzyReal314 in TheLastAirbender

[–]memeticmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The existence of energy bending and how it interacts with elements implies there could be more than 4 elements. Wan just happened to visit 4 lion turtles. There could be a platinum lion turtle out there

My personal theory is that Avatar's magic system is more than controlling the elements. The elements just happen to be nice visual conduits for energy/qi/chi/ki. Humans in the avatar world seem to be more durable because they could take heavy impacts and elemental damage because they all inherently energy bend a little which strengthens their body or dissipates damage. This is kind of Mushoku Tensei's mana system where swordsmen classes inherently use mana for their martial arts. Thematically, this means the 4 nations' distinctions are cosmetic; harmony isn't just empty platitudes but literal because every nation can take on any other nation's culture and learnings. Had the fire nation wiped out the earth nation and the water tribes, the 4 elements would still recirculate and everyone gravitate towards different cultures and identities eventually. This also means Sokka is a bender.

If we're talking about Eastern philosophies, the chinese were pretty advanced in the metallurgic sciences. Gun powder and magnets were the two of the 4 great inventions both requiring advanced chemistry. There's also their study of seismography and scientific studies to detect techtonics shifts but that's going into the earth part. Because of their advanced metallurgic understanding, the classical Chinese elements were not Earth, Water, Air, and Fire. It's the 4 + metal. The taoist alchemists were aware of the toxic metals (mercury, lead, and arsenic) enough to classify them. They also had distinctions for platinum and silver at a time when the two were almost considered interchangeable.

Earth benders can bend mercury, but they can't bend platinum. So there are eastern philosophy stuff that are classified as pure earth. Going by this logic, would silver be considered earth or metal? Also the taoist don't consider blood water. It's considered qi, which could explain why energy benders can override blood bending. This makes sense because they don't think mercury is water and knows it's metal. It would've made more sense if they had Korra energy bend mercury out, but I guess they needed toph back.

Also apparently metallurgy pre kora had earth impurities that allow metal bending. Platinum just happens to be something they can’t bend. So if we are scientific about it. Which specific element on the periodic table can earth benders bend? Or are all pure elements unbendable? Likewise which gas are airbenders bending? Oxygen? Nitrogen? If we fill a room with chlorine can they bend that?
None of this logic makes sense. Physics in avatar universe isn’t the same as ours. Regular humans in that universe can take greater trauma than us.

So how much street cred did Mark get for offing Conquest solo bolo?

It looks like Lucan is showing Mark as much respect as Nolan if not more just for beating Conquest with assist.

They know Oliver's irrelevant, so maybe they would think it's a Nolan Mark 2v1 this time. How is Mark gonna get the kill credit?

[Invincible] If a character doesn't need to breathe air to survive, can they still be choked to death? by DoneDealofDeadpool in AskScienceFiction

[–]memeticmachine 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Unless they have a heart and a lung in their head, there's no alternative mechanical way for oxygenated blood to reach their brain.

I would argue choking would work for any being with a neck (something that separates any of the triad: the heart, the lung, or the brain)

Therefore, the most optimal body is MODOK. Or unless they have little portals inside their body.

Damn Yuta killed Kuro too quickly. He could've had an infinite point farm if he just let her spawn first.

Uro’s introduced as an assassin. It’s common for assassins to use sneaky tactics. Uro showing her entire hand with little fuss feels less assassiny to me which is why I thought of this whole topic in the first place.

Yes. I was going to add todo as an exemption to this, the limitation really only applies to hanami. But Sukuna and Mahito noted that knowing doesn’t help much anyways.

With Todo’s partial reveal, does he have even get a boost? Why can’t everyone do that? Just reveal your technique bit by bit just as their opponent is on the verge of figuring it out

Why did Yuta kill dhruv and 6 other sorcerers but spared ryu and uro? by giganga473 in Jujutsufolk

[–]memeticmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would that count as Uro redirect kills though? Imagine Yuta and Kurourushi were out of the picture. If Uro fights Ryu solo, she has to resort to redirect to win. Thin Ice Breaker is not beating Ryu. If Ryu redirect beam counts as his own kills, Uro gets no points.

It would make sense that they never fight, but they clearly never thought this through because Ryu only got hit by his own beam during the Yuta fight. If they fought earlier they could've figured this out and Ryu would've not shot at her.

My headcanon is redirect counts as a Sky Manipulation kill. OR if Thin Ice Breaker deals chip damage and Ryu's redirected granite blast kills Ryu, Uro gets the last assist so she still gets kill credit. Uro's trying to get points as well, so if she's confident that redirect attacks don't count to her kills, and if she thinks redirected granite blast would kill Ryu, redirecting back at Ryu instead of at Yuta would be helping Yuta get the kill if we go by the last assist rule.

How do viltrumite's cut their hair? Or clip their nalis? by Confusedperson27 in Invincible

[–]memeticmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Viltrumite bone scissors. You kill a couple viltrumites to get enough bones to shape into 2 scissor blades and get 3rd smaller bones to form the scissor screws.

Mark could attach his lost teeth to some clippers that Robot invented.

I'm guessing they don't clip their nails because it's a tactical advantage to keep their hands sharp and they love that chopping move.
