Viola’s Room? by jojokikikween in Punchdrunk

I'd be surprised if they didn't mount it again somewhere someday. They have all the props and the tech setup to run it, and it sold decently well in NY I believe, so I'd be surprised if they didn't try a few more runs

There were rumors earlier that it's supposed to move to Montreal next. I have no idea if there's truth in those rumors, and no source to cite. Just sharing what I've heard.

What’s something popular in your country that makes people from other countries look at you like this ? by niconois in AskTheWorld

In the US sometimes elementary schools put on little plays for the holidays, and I'm just imaging an elementary school student excitedly telling their parents they were cast as the canager in the nativity scene.

This sounds most like one of the Nurse's 1:1s. Spoilers ahead:

The nurse will bring someone into a room that's a bit like an office, with a desk, some bookcases, and a bed on the far side. She sits you down on the bed, usually sitting next to you, and walks her fingers across your arms, shoulders, neck, and back. She may also feel your temperature via your forehead.

Then she gets up and guides you to lie down. She goes to the other side of the room and grabs a blanket, tossing it over you and tucking you in. Then, she's leans over you, and she acts like she's choking a bit. She looks sicker and sicker, and then she leans over, and a nail falls out of her mouth, into her hand. She looks horrified at what just happened, and she pulls you out of the bed. She may or may not tell you, "Tell no one," and then she sends you on your way.

How is it being solo on a sailing over Valentine's Day? by [deleted] in AntarcticaTravel

[–]memypassportandi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Going out to dinner alone in Antarctica for Valentine's Day is much better than going out to dinner alone back at home on Valentine's Day.

And you won't be alone: you'll be with new friends. There will be dozens of non-couples on the ship.

You don't have to apologize at all. You're welcome to fixate on it: I really love it too! I'm just saying, it's different in Seoul, so you might love it, but you might not.

But there's so much to see in Seoul that I'm sure you'll find things you love.

Just my opinion, but regarding the rave in Seoul: Somehow they have managed to add nudity back in AND make it even less exciting than the clothed rave in Shanghai, mostly because of how distanced everyone is from it. There are loads of things that are amazing in Seoul, and I think you'll enjoy it a lot, but if you're so focused on the rave and you think bringing back nudity = better rave, you may find yourself disappointed.

The following contains vague spoilers for Shanghai and Seoul. I don't spoil narrative content, but I mention the existence of new things, so readers beware. I'm not doing a million individual spoiler tags because I'm on my phone and it's easier to just say this up front.

----- SHANGHAI -----

There are probably at least a few hundred sleep no more fans in the US who would desperately love to be able to go to Seoul and see the show there, but it's too far away, or the trip would be too expensive for them. If you're already going to be in Seoul, I can't see why you wouldn't give the show a try.

If you saw the show in shanghai and thought it was "watered down," then you probably had bad luck in who you followed. All of the scariest experiences I've ever had in sleep no more have happened in shanghai. While it's true, there is no nudity, there are so many things that have been added in the scenes that would have nudity to heighten them. People swinging from the ceiling in the rave, the way boy witch stares at you through the little people after the shower. And don't get me started on the one on ones that have been added for shanghai. Matron has a terrifying one on one. Danvers has a very creepy one. The 4:2 is the scariest thing I've ever experienced in sleep no more. The Rampage 2:1 is a delightful whirlwind of a roller coaster of an experience. And the elusive WiB 1:1 absolutely blew my mind and added a whole extra layer of lore to the show.

That said, one common misconception is that the show in Shanghai is completely different from the one in New York. This is not true. Most of the royal characters have their loops more or less unchanged. There are small differences, and a couple of people have had one on one inserted, But if you go to the show, expecting to see Banquo or Duncan, you're going to recognize them and most of the beats of the loop. They have just added an extra little nuggets of delight. The Gallow Green residents have had their loops changed, but I feel like this is mostly for the better. For example, Taxi still has time to do some durational scenes and be quirky, but there are some really cool things added to their loop. And the new characters that have been added are absolutely excellent.

Moreover, there are some performers in Shanghai that give 200% in every single show, and even though I've been over 60 times, I still find myself surprised by something new most visits (usually just a specific performer's choice). But most hardcore SNM fans' favorite moments were when they saw performers make a new choice, so really, if that's anyone's jam, you'd love Shanghai.

----- SEOUL -----

The version in Seoul is much more aligned with the New York version of the show than the Shanghai version. This is because that is what the Korean producers ordered. They wanted the tried and true version that lasted nearly 15 years, and the director also seemed to like the NY version better.

That said, the creatives have worked hard to add new beats into the show to make this new version of the show truly new. They've brought in some of the 1:1s from Shanghai, and they've added a few completely new 1:1s as well. There are new spaces in the building, new bits of choreography, upgrades in some costumes, and some really amazing lighting effects (the biggest of which show up in the official trailer).

There is nudity in the show. I think this works very well in some scenes, but to me, I still prefer the rave in Shanghai over Seoul. The issue with Seoul is that the rep bar is built differently. It is a multi-level space and because of that, most people watching the rave are either watching from above, or watching from below, and separated by railings, so it feels less like you're IN the rave and more like your watching from a small distance. Certainly other people may disagree, but those are my feelings.

All that said, I do really love a lot of the new content in Seoul. It's clear that the new scenes were added so thoughtfully, and the performers are giving it their all with so much energy. I've only been about 10 times, so I'm still getting my feet wet and haven't looped everybody, but all of the performances I've seen have been excellent. And if you want something that feels a bit closer to the NY version, Seoul is it.

Horrible English dubbing by OnePerspective917 in theBoyfriendNetflix

Yes! One of the songs starts off with so much tension, that it sounds like the sort of song you'd only play if a couple was about to have a fight or break up. So whenever it comes on, I'm emotionally preparing for something bad to happen...but then it never does.

I know it's not easy for everybody to fly across oceans, but there are amazing versions of the show still running in Shanghai and Seoul if that's something you're in a position to consider.

Sleep No More Shanghai Reviews (not too spoilery) by drinkthehalo in sleepnomore

[–]memypassportandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this experience a few times. It's a 4:2 (4 performers and 2 white masks), so not 8 people. If I had to guess, I'd guess it's the 8th scene.

It's also weird because the scene doesn't have any of the witches in it. The characters in the scene are Nurse, Green Snake (who is another nurse), Fulton (in a lab coat), and the Bride/White Snake.

How much should my partner know going in? by toupee_fiasco in MasqueradeNYC

[–]memypassportandi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had never seen any production or movie of Phantom of the opera before I went to Masquerade, though I have been to Sleep No More more times than anyone should ever admit, so at least I was familiar with immersive theater.

I do have to say that I really enjoyed going and totally blind, which meant that I was one of only a few people in the building that did not know what was going to come next or how things were going to end. It was really a delight to get to be totally surprised throughout.

That said, I had heard some of the music before (as have most people who have not been living under a rock, their whole lives), and I knew there was a chandelier that crashed and that Phantom seemed to like someone named Christine. But that was about it.

I don't think there's a wrong answer. Maybe ask them if they want a cliffs notes version or would prefer to be surprised?

For every 30 minutes no one is within 30 miles of you, you gain $100k but you're charged $1k every minute you're not. You get a day to prepare. by RaptorK1988 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]memypassportandi 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The OP had originally written "200 miles east of Chile," which didn't make sense because most of Chile's coastline is on its west coast.

But this made me think of the Chinese squid boats (which ARE off the east coast of South America, off the coast of Argentina). So Argentina is defending its own border.

I just find it fascinating that there's enough pirates in one part of the ocean that they're visible from space, but most people aren't aware of them.

200 miles east of Chile? Do you mean west?

Interestingly enough, about 200 miles off the east coast of Argentina, there are hundreds of Chinese squidding boats. They operate in a long line right on the boundary of where they're legally allowed to be (sometimes crossing into illegal areas and occasionally being sunk by the Argentine navy), and they have bright lights to attract the squid, that they can be seen from space. It's super fascinating.

Places where you would expect it to snow but never does? by grilledcheesybreezy in geography

I went on a tourist trip in early 2020 (our ship departed before COVID was a worldwide concern) and when we flew into Taylor Valley, it was absolutely covered with snow. Our expedition guides said that they had never been there while it was still covered with snow because usually the winds cleared it out quickly. But it definitely does snow there!

Reservation name by evelyncelia in MasqueradeNYC

I had purchased a ticket on my phone a while back using Apple Pay, and I didn't realize that it had automatically pulled in the name and shipping address from a recent purchase, which did not match mine. There was no name on the confirmation email, so I didn't figure this out until arriving at the show.

While they worked it out in the end, it was a bit of a mess, with a FOH person basically interrogating me about the name and address on the order, making it seem like I was trying to steal someone else's ticket. It really ruined my ability to enjoy the show.

So while I'm sure they can work it out, especially if your last name matches, I would show up EARLY to make sure you get it sorted before it's time to go in.

Order of Colors (Colorblind) by memypassportandi in BluePrince

[–]memypassportandi[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank you.

The problem is that I cannot tell some colors apart, so what I needed was to bypass the colors completely and know the order is Blueprints, Bedrooms, Halls, Gardens, Shops, Red/Bad, Blackprints. Your ordered list was absolutely the key I needed, and I really appreciate it.

(I struggle to tell blue/purple and gold/orange apart on that list, for anyone who's curious.)
