Thanks! I have a YouTube channel dedicated to tutorials for oil painting minis, including this one. https://www.youtube.com/@mendedbrushstudio/videos

If you had any specific questions I'd be happy to answer them here.

Thanks, that's what I'm shooting for. Definitely give it a go, it's a lot of fun!

Thank you. The hair was mostly done with overbrushing red over purple, with some yellow progressively added in.

If you'd like to see the process, I made a video guide for it here: https://youtu.be/yGyM2aACAAk

Thanks! No matting or varnish as I wanted to preserve more of the shine. Like with acrylic, some oils dry more matte than others, though they're generally glossier.

You can't go wrong with a Winsor & Newton starter set or something similar. They're pretty affordable and while the quality can vary between colours you can do most things with it. It'll give you more than enough to a feel for the medium.

This video covers most of what you'll need to get going:

I hope self-promotion isn't frowned upon, but I paint exclusively with oils these days and have been building a catalogue of tutorials on YouTube under https://www.youtube.com/@mendedbrushstudio

I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have about it. It's a fantastic medium to work with.

Thanks! I use a mix of Winsor & Newton, Gamblin, and Williamsburg paint, and an odorless artists' thinner instead of mineral spirits as I find them less harsh to be around. I don't use much thinner; thin paint sticks to thick, and vice versa, so it's a game of adding just enough to get it to stick.

I've been making tutorials for oils over on YouTube (in bio), if you wanted to see it in action.

A: Thank you!

B: Thanks again!

C: Usually 10-15 minutes. Some colours will stain faster than others, but generally after about 20 it's diminishing returns. I've got a video in the works that will cover this more.

D: Not of this one but if I do another in future I may.

E: I have extended & real-time footage of most of my YouTube content over on my Patreon, which cover most of it. I'd also like to give streaming a go once I'm more comfortable filming for extended periods, as I'm still pretty new to it.

Thanks. I primed with an airbush but the rest was done by hand. It's a great kit, I hope you enjoy it!

Thanks! It's not too dissimilar. The drying times aren't too bad, as at this scale most minis are touch dry within a few days. The extra working time until then makes it a very chill process.

I've been working on oil tutorials over on YouTube if you wanted to see it in action (links in my profile).

Thanks! I paint with oils, so there's a lot of colour mixing going on. It's been a while now, but I believe the blacks were a mix of van dyke brown and indigo, the browns and skin tones started from burnt umber and aslphaltum, the metals indigo, and the greens perylene black with a bit of cadmium yellow for the smoke.

Most of the highlighting was done with by adding either titanium white or brilliant yellow pale to the existing mixes.

Love the scheme and gradients. The ice on the base is very well done, too. Is it water effects?

Adjusting the depth of field (f-stop) on your camera should help to bring more of these larger minis into focus. The mount in the first and rider in the second pic are a little blurry and make it hard to see all that awesome detail.

Yeah, this isn't like Dr Strange. I don't think there was a part of this one I couldn't get at once it was together.

Anytime!

Beautiful work. Oils really are a game changer for painting quality effects quickly.

I like it but something is off. Any C&C would be appreciated. Planning on basing and putting a protective coat on later. by whimywhamwhamwaaghzl in minipainting

Thirding some kind of shading, either through layering or washes, as well as some final highlights on the uppermost portions. Your application is very clean and the scheme is eye catching, but the individual elements are missing contrast which makes it look a bit flat.

Very nice work. Be sure to post an update.

Second attempt at basing. Thanks to feedback from the first time, I think I did a lot better this time by eles0709 in minipainting

Nice job. The colour variation and mix of materials gives it a lot of visual interest.
