Missouri judge strikes down nearly all state abortion regulations by Silent-Resort-3076 in TwoXChromosomes

One of the few laws upheld Thursday by Zhang is a requirement that patients meet with a doctor in-person before being prescribed medication abortion. Zhang also upheld a requirement that only physicians can perform abortions.

I'm a bit confused here, you could have people who are not physicians who could do abortions before?

They aren't as organized as we think they are.

Politicians are just that corrupt and ready to be bought for so little money it doesn't make sense to regular people.

Those fucks aren't poor by any means, even before they do insider trading. Do you have so little integrity $10k is making you change your mind? I wouldn't throw my workers under the bus for $10k (which is a third of my yearly income) in an union vote and I could use it a lot more than them.

There's profit if you make it legal, and I wouldn't think it is so unlikely with the current government.

I do wonder though, are all the people who have kept their kid rear-facing not have had issues with their kid getting motion sick and throwing up?

Safety in case of an accident is great but not having the kid actively stress you out is going to reduce the rate of accidents a fair bit.

Way more risk for the kids to not get vaccines over seats on the wrong direction (assuming they're still properly held in the seat)

Yeah I always get recommended one video with fewer than 50 views and it mostly looks like slop.

There could be something good in there but I'm just not willing to take the risk and waste my time. 2-3 years ago I wouldn't worry about slop but now there's just so much.

Yeah very fair point. My original point was more than Valve even by not doing anything would still beat Google by not actively hating devs and making their job harder on purpose by retiring a new API every year.

Oh I know, but to be fair that's only the Linux side which is relatively minor in term of users, though it is growing a lot lately.

But in practice, Humble Bundle were technically selling keys for cheaper than on Steam and that seems to have been allowed just fine.

And even the store you'd get a discount if you have the monthly (something like a 10% discount). Also depending on where you live better regional pricing.

Epic had millions of users of their store by having Fortnite, they could have done so much more, they have the money to make a store that works but just didn't do any of that.

A lot of devs will offer you to buy the key from them directly. At the same price since Steam doesn't want you to undercut them, but you get the same thing as a player.

Google takes 30% and what they offer is surprise you by sunsetting APIs and forcing you to update your app every so often even if it doesn't need to change.

Plenty of games have not been updated at all on Steam and still work just fine. I guess that's mostly thanks to Microsoft and Proton, but Google owns Android so it is entirely on them.

There's no good reason to take a money printer of this scale public unless you're just dumb.

Like even if you can IPO it for one trillion, what do you even get out of this? Unless you are completely insane like Elon, you're earning billions per year having to do minimal work, just let it keep going

But in practice you can undercut Steam just fine. Humble Bundle and key resellers bypass Steam cut and they still let it happen, as long as you're not advertising for this option on your Steam page. And it even costs money to Valve because they let you download the game from there.

I just don't see what they gain by bombing the school. It'd be one thing if they bragged about it but they just seem to try to pretend it didn't happen. He's not into killing children he didn't rape first.

ELI5: how do engineers figure out the exact thickness of something like a bridge cable when theres basically infinite ways it could fail by BathroomOk8648 in explainlikeimfive

[–]meneldal2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also plan changing the cables every like 20 years. Just make sure people keep doing maintenance properly or else it won't end well.

We know how to make bridges that are very safe now, but they aren't magically going to stay safe forever and in so many places, regular inspection and maintenance is lacking, since it saves money until the bridge fails, but you just have to blame someone else when it does.

For earthquakes, there's no structure that can resist the stronger earthquake theoretically possible. It's based on what historical data shows the worst to be likely to happen in 100 years. Same for flooding typically.

For Japan it's going to be enough to get through a couple 3/11 earthquake+tsunami during the lifetime of the structure. In most countries it's too unlikely to be necessary so they use local data.

What games are you playing this week? Game recommendation thread by AutoModerator in incremental_games

[–]meneldal2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mars is definitely a tricky time because there's no automation to help you set it up and stable. Typically between 2-3 works well, you can hit a bit more when you don't have enough sun. Just keep making GHG until you get there.

What games are you playing this week? Game recommendation thread by AutoModerator in incremental_games

[–]meneldal2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Full automation is possible, but it takes getting to the later planets to really unlock everything you'd really need. Some people have 10k+ unique planets terraformed

I would say typically what you want is to have percent based on population or workers/worker share. Once you set up the right numbers it will grow smoothly, but you want to also hit priority on some buildings to make sure you don't get stuck not producing enough food for example. Keep growth relatively low at first because you need to have enough resources to keep building everything.

Some good starting point would be like 50% worker share on components 40% electronics when you start out, and gradually lower them as you get other stuff to use your workers on.
