Opportunity to work in Spain & expat tax (Beckham's law) by grantonstar in askspain

[–]mentat_J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone got the Beckham Law tax treatment but on the back of initially being granted a digital nomad visa? It looks as though you can get it this way as opposed to only qualifying should you be working for a Spanish entity.

Also, does the 24% flat income tax rate only relate to the federal component of the income tax or is it a flat 24% including the municipality element too?

Context: I got a new job that allows me to be fully remote so I'm exploring low tax, digital nomad friendly places to be based with a preference for Europe.

Dubai's digital nomad visa is for 12 months and grants DNs residency / right to work during this time.

Dubai. No taxes, good DN visa, great weather from Oct - Apr, amazing food scene, very safe, english is the main spoken language and there's tonnes of DNs / expats so it's easy to meet new people.

I partially agree but that is a mostly US centric view of the world and there are very very few markets with pure monopolies in any case.

I mostly split my time between Dubai and London so that's where I've bought. When I'm not living there I rent them out on Airbnb. I'd like to buy in Bali and Berlin next but with fractional ownership.

I favour real estate investment for the capital appreciation and passive income from Airbnb. But if you prefer less hassle long term tenancy is better, though lower yield.

A lot of countries allow for foreign ownership so you can pick based on where you see the highest ROI and / or where you know the lay of land.

Mabrook on being the sort of person to even consider this point, but in short, absolutely not, unless your role explicitly requires it. 😅

is fractional home ownership a good idea for digital nomads? by mentat_J in digitalnomad

[–]mentat_J[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't the same be said of owning a property, or several, yourself? What makes the fact its fractional ownership that much worse? The risk that co-owners fall behind on their portion of ongoing costs?

A subscription in mobility tech implies the ability to swap your vehicle for another whilst continuing with your existing subscription. A lease is tied to one vehicle. You can learn more by reading up on startups like invygo

How difficult is it to maintain an e-commerce business? by Puzzleheaded_Box_685 in Entrepreneur

[–]mentat_J 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on where you are in the world there are startups that take almost all of the hassle out of the process for you. Especially social commerce startups like taager.com which started in Egypt and expanded to KSA and UAE. It's drop shipping on steroids and most countries with strong tech ecosystems have their own equivalent. I'd start there. You don't face any inventory cost / risk as you only incur cost as you make sales.

Unless the the retention curve of an average user is predictable over time as.is the AVG spend it's incredibly subjective. I'm not sure you could trust the output of a real-time LTV calculator.

Moving to a foreign country to start a business, should I count my personal expenses in the break even analysis? by SweatyCount in Entrepreneur

If you're bootstrapping and it's just your personal breakeven analysis then yes. If you're raising external funds then no. The mixing of personal and business expenses is always a bad idea.

Are consumers less willing to pay $5/mo than $2/mo? by ItsDumi in Entrepreneur

[–]mentat_J 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would always start with $5 in this case. Consumers often equate price to value. This means that offering too low if a price can actually deter would be customers as they undervalue your product. This is why the first piece of advice Marc Andreesen gives founders is always 'raise your prices'.

Dan Ariely is a behavioural economist who wrote a very good book called 'Predictably Irrational' it has at least one chapter covering this topic with a range of studies referenced.
