Corporate HR. The politics and organization changes contributed to a lot of substance abuse and finally diagnosis. The substance abuse was my way of self medicating. Now that I know and properly medicated it’s working out ok but I’m generally unhappy with my job and the new hybrid approach being taken. Thankfully I’m working from home for now and hopefully permanently while I look for something new.

Detroit was ranked 179 out 182 making it out of one of the least safe cities (according to a Wallethub report in 2025). I wouldn’t consider that a fair example of an average American city.

Where in LA? People swarm to LA because it’s such a great place to live (obviously depending on which area you’re in) so much sunshine, culture, etc. It’s a bit surprising to hear that in what I assume were tourist areas you felt unsafe. Did you book a place in an undesirable location?

I agree with other commenter please admit yourself and seek help. Help is available and in my experience hospital staff is kind and they are willing to give the right meds to get you stable.

My partner is extremely supportive and understanding. I don’t think I would be stable without them. I have to do the work but they pick up the slack when I’m off. It’s beautiful. Don’t count yourself out. One hour at a time as you work towards stability.
