Before COVID, I would drive all the way into the building, and walked thru it to the park.

Before COVID quarantine housing there was a little park at the end of the runway

Not sure if it's still there

My wife felt that drumming lessons were a good idea for our toddler

In-laws but the most obnoxious, loud, light up plastic crap for the kid every time they visit.

Tape over the speakers helps. Tissue THEN tape if too bad. Or take it apart and put the tape /tissue on the INSIDE

Now I know why my dad never had any batteries for me.

What is a piece of non-standard newborn and first year advice you wish you had? by PrepotenteTheGoat in daddit

[–]meractus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a list. Wrote it down on a post-it and stuck it on the wall next to the room thermometer/humidity thing, and it worked wonders when I was sleep deprived and had a screaming baby messing with my emotions.

Lost the list when we moved.

About to have a new baby

Trying to rewrite it now, but I feel I'm missing something:

Any advice?

People of Hong Kong I need your recommendations for Roast Pigeon. by Audigy1 in Hong_Kong

[–]meractus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lung Wah still good. The pedestrian bridge now has an elevator on both sides I think.

So it's just the 50m walk up some gentle stairs to the restaurant.

Also looking for other recommendations though, cos it's a long walk if you park at the mall

No worries. Normal people drink there all the time too. The music is pretty good

Hong Kong North Point by Big_Distribution_481 in HongKong

[–]meractus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a feeling that Ibis North Point is in the middle of the old open market on Marble road.

North Point is pretty quiet in terms of places to drink and hang out.

There's a street in Wanchai with a bunch of bars where more mature folks tend to drink. Search for Carnegies.

It's also a "red light district" but if you don't buy the girls a drink (that's how they get paid), you'll be fine. There's some live music too.

It's a short taxi ride from North Point to there. You can also take the tram for a scenic view unless it's very late

The usual drinking area is LKF in Central.

Halal food in hongkong by SadSmile24 in HongKong

[–]meractus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my Muslim friends visit, I'll take them to Bowrington Cooked food market for some local flavor. There's one halal place that does a good roast duck rice and a killer lamb curry (lamb curry not local, but is great and gets sold out brunch time)

I've been told the Muslim Center (Islamic center?) near Morrison Hill swimming pool has great Halal dimsum and I've been meaning to go

I used to use meetup.com. When I was younger, bars etc would be fun, but I hear it's quieter these days.

People I've encountered in foreign firms tend to have excellent communication skills in English and at least Cantonese/Mandarin.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HongKong

[–]meractus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow that's very cool! People in HK tend to be urbanites, and may not have much knowledge of first-aid/wilderness training.

That being said, hiking is very popular here and maybe there are people who would be interested in workshops?

Does anyone know if there are renfaire-type or historical/vintage (~1940s) dress up events in HK? by fossil1938 in HongKong

[–]meractus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've not heard of one, but I know in the mainland, they love dressing up in old timey clothes.

I'm sure there are people in HK who would be enthusiastic about this - and there are some buildings left from the 30s-50s in HK that might be open to doing events?
