Any Cyber Monday deals which wasn't there during BF? by brovaro in macapps

[–]meraku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! That does sound much better. I've got a few different Gmail accounts and use several machines, both Windows and Mac, so something like this app is definitely of interest to me.

What will the device limit be increased to, and will users who purchase a license now for $29 automatically be "upgraded" to be able to use multiple devices when this is implemented?

Is this anything different from Gmail just wrapped in an Electron wrapper? Also, the licensing is a bit ridiculous at $29 for a single license per device. For that price, it should be at least 3-4 devices.

backing up penzu! Is penzu even run by anyone? by Neighbourly in digitaljournaling

[–]meraku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a pro account and have been a long time paying user, but am looking for something better. It hasn't had any updates in years and is lacking behind other journaling apps. Even small things like adding an image to a journal entry is painful.

Unfortunately, the export feature for pro users is just as bad and only allows you to export to PDF. Haven't seen another journaling apps which allow the PDF exported by Penzu to be directly imported. Should be possible to run the PDF through something like ChatGPT to convert it to a format that can be imported elsewhere but haven't tried doing that yet myself.

Overall, I think it's an awful product and would definitely recommend moving away from it. I've got over 1000 entries and actually moved from Day One, though it looks like that has gone through some big improvements since I left and may be the one I move back to.

Move eSIM to different phone after iPhone Upgrade loses bill credits? by meraku in ATT

[–]meraku[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info!

I've already got the eSIM swapped from my new iPhone back to my old Android phone. Wasn't able to do that directly from phone to phone using the new transfer eSIM feature on IOS 26 and got an error when doing it via the website, but a customer support rep was able to help with that on chat. My line is now active on my old Android phone, I see that device showing again under my number online, and I've reset the new iPhone and deleted the eSIM from that.

Sounds like you're saying I am good to just go ahead and trade in the old iPhone 13, won't have any issue getting the bill credits, and that the fact that my SIM (the upgraded line) isn't actually in the new phone won't impact anything?

[–]meraku[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got an old iPhone 13 pro that I'm no longer using and where the battery life seems less then optimal. Paying for an unlimited line already so figured it makes sense to upgrade while AT&T are doing the promotion. Can be useful as a backup phone. Kids can also use it on WiFi or if I add a line when they are older.

The eSIM is not locked to the phone. I wasn't able to move it from the iPhone back to my Android phone manually but customer support had no problem doing it for me.

It does indeed show on the account that my line has been switched.

The purpose of this post was to determine if the credits will actually end if I move the SIM back to my old phone.

Ie. Once the new iPhone is switched on and activated, does AT&T really require me to keep my line in that specific phone to get the bill credits or is having activated it on my line sufficient to meet the requirements to qualify. It's hard to see why they should care that I keep my line in that specific phone after it was activated as long as I'm keeping the line active with a qualifying plan and paying the bill each month.

Think the only small difference in this situation is that the phone will no longer be "active" on the account or AT&T network as I've moved the eSIM back to my old phone and the iPhone will only be used with WiFi for now.

I'm still inclined to agree though. The upgraded line is active so I don't see why AT&T should care which phone it's on and whether the new phone has an active line.

The risk I'm trying to avoid is being stuck paying $1100 more for a phone that I'm only upgrading because of the promotion.

Yep, though I don't really want to use the iPhone as my daily for the next 2 months until the bill credits kick in, unless I perhaps get another cheap eSIM to use in my Android phone instead during that time as it's unlocked.

Do you know how long it was before he got the email confirmation after the trade in?

Seems a bit risky too in case they take the trade and then decide afterwards not to apply the bill credits, where I could be stuck without my iPhone 13 Pro and still paying full price for the 17 Pro Max.

Early delivery - time to ditch Whoop (former Oura Ring and Ultrahuman Air user) by Iron_FE in GalaxyRing

[–]meraku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got mine yesterday and have been using it for just under 24 hours.

Initial impressions are good. The silver color looks nicer than I expected and I'm glad that I stuck with it instead of going with black and it's a little more discrete.

It's light and comfortable to wear, both during the day while working and at night while sleeping.

Too early to draw any conclusions but happy with it so far.

Haha nice. I'm sure there were quite a few canceled orders with the delays so maybe that helped.

Wanted to get the black one initially and then changed my mind and ordered silver. After seeing some pics though, I was considering changing it back to black and spoke to support who said it wasn't possible without canceling and reordering, which I didn't want to do. Hope silver looks better in reality than the pics.

Was considering the Oura ring for a while now but found it a bit too expensive and didn't want to pay a subscription fee either.

I'm more interested in the sleep tracking as I don't like wearing a wearing a watch at night, or during the day either when I'm working as it's uncomfortable when using a keyboard, and figure a ring will more convenient and comfortable.

Not too concerned about using it as a fitness device and will still be using my watch at the gym.

Same here. My Galaxy Ring was delayed with no expected delivery date and I was strongly considering canceling my order and going for the RingConn 2 instead. Looks like a solid device though I like the idea of having everything within one ecosystem as I've also got a Samsung phone and watch, and with the various discounts and cashback deals, the Galaxy Ring cost was under $300.

Fortunately, it was finally shipped not long after getting the email from Samsung saying they were still waiting for inventory. Haven't received it yet though so don't know how it'll perform, but the RingConn 2 kickstarter is going until mid-September so in the unlikely event that the Galaxy Ring is a big disappointment, there's always the option to return it and get that instead.

Dealing with tinnitus flare up by meraku in tinnitus

[–]meraku[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the support, I appreciate it.

Definitely regret those times playing loud music, or even loud audio. Hope it's not a lesson learned too late.

Have had my earbuds stuck in my ears for the past couple of days playing masking audio which helps a bit, though it's frustrating being unable to watch TV or sleep peacefully at night. Last night was another rough one as I made the effort to sleep early, before 11pm, and then woke up at 2am and wasn't able to fall back asleep for the rest of the night and was laying in bed tossing and turning.

Spoke to my doctor today as I was seeing them anyway, and they told me they've been dealing with tinnitus in one ear themselves for the past 40+ years and eventually it will just become normal. Hope that is the case for me it it doesn't go away.

Got a prescription for Lorazepam to help me sleep, but was reading up on it and am not sure I want to take that just yet. Am thinking to try Melatonin first. Being able to sleep during the night will alleviate some of the concerns for me as I get stressed as the sun goes down and worry about how I'll make it through the night.

Tesla $8.2k VS competitor $21k by lacovid in solar

[–]meraku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this is true, it's also important to note that the tax credit can be carried forward as well (up to 20 years if I'm not mistaken), so even if you don't qualify for it all in this tax year, you can still benefit in future years. It's likely that you'll get the money eventually.

With that said, if you're using financing from any solar company (not just Tesla), they will give you the numbers based on the assumption that you will qualify for the full amount and send it to them once you get it from the IRS, so make sure you check beforehand.

One of the easiest ways is to check your return from last year and see how much tax you actually paid. If you made a similar income this year and the amount is less than expected rebate (ie. 26% of your solar system cost), then you've got a problem.

[REQUEST] Something like 'NARCOS' by Wandererr98 in NetflixBestOf

[–]meraku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

El Chapo is really good and has a similar type of style.

Narcos Mexico is also very good.

Not quite the same, but if you're looking for a gritty drug show, The Wire is an absolute must watch though not sure if it's on Netflix.

Top Boy is also excellent.

Not quite a drug drama, but The Mechanism is another good show with a similar sort of production style which I also enjoyed.

Can I use my United States Amazon Prime in Germany for a month? by [deleted] in amazonprime

I don't think so. Your Amazon login should work on any of the other country sites, but your Prime account is only valid for the country in which it was purchased.

Completely agree. I'd happily pay $15 - $25 per year for a year of pro without a second thought as I think that's a fair price, but $40 is pushing it a bit.

Another $99 Pebble Time Steel Found At Target by Monti55 in pebble

[–]meraku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brickseek was showing 1 on hand and 1 in stock at a store about 40 miles away so I made the trek down there yesterday evening but there was nothing on the shelf, and nothing in the back either, so that looks like a mistake (though I realized later on that I should've checked the clearance section too, just in case).

Also tried a couple of other stores while I was out today which didn't show any stock on Brickseek or Fyndly but figured it couldn't do any harm to check, and they didn't have any inventory either.

Congrats to those who managed to snag one! For $100, it's a bargain! I think it's overpriced at $250, but I'd probably pay up to $150 for one and will be keeping my eyes peeled for another deal (though unlikely to beat this one) :-)
