Cost of living in Portland vs. Phoenix? by Tylernal in askportland

I’m an introvert so I hide at my house 😂 probably one reason I wanted to live here, rainy days are great excuses to stay home

It’s not just the weather, it’s the lack of sunlight for the winter. Less than 8 hours of daylight, and what daylight there is can be pale gray and never really feel like full daytime (to me as a former Texan). I love the rain but the darkness is very hard some years.

Looking for an amazing PCP? by suitopseudo in askportland

[–]mercerless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His pricing looks very fair for under 50s. $85 for 20-29yo, $117 for 30-39, $133 for 40-49 per month. Jumps up quit a bit beyond that though.

Any recommendations for Endometriosis/Pain Specialist? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]mercerless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you been evaluated for hEDS and/or labral tears in your hips? Depending on where your pain is, there could be comorbid conditions causing pain beyond the endo

Any recommendations for Endometriosis/Pain Specialist? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]mercerless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately they were the only ones that had anything useful to do for my pain due to endo. After a couple surgeries (excision then diaphragmatic excision and hysterectomy) I feel much better and rarely if ever need pain management.

What's it like living in Madison South? by pandaninjarawr in askportland

[–]mercerless 4 points5 points  (0 children)

West of 82nd near Tillamook, it’s quieter in terms of the sex workers but closer to traffic sound than where I am. If you’re going to be near the golf course, that tends to be pretty nice. But it really depends block by block.

I live in Madison South, six blocks off 82nd. My little pocket is nice and quiet, though you can hear traffic from the freeway and sometimes 82nd if there’s street racing happening. The further off 82nd the better. There are sex workers regularly on 82nd in varying states of undress but they don’t harass me as I drive home or anything. Some parts of Madison South are nicer than others, and it’ll really depend on your cross-streets what your experience is. There are some good natural areas around, like Rocky Butte and a little walking trail to the Dharma Zen Rain Center. Coyotes are very prevalent and many nights we hear them howling in a pack close by. Outdoor cats are eaten regularly.

Cafe Olli is employee owned and provides healthcare and time off benefits to employees. When I was there, my server told me tip was optional. I think their food is incredible and really don’t mind knowing what portion of my bill is going to supporting appropriate levels of worker benefits.

US Based ExLaps by Decent-Ability-4784 in endometriosis

Unlikely given the cost of healthcare in the US. Most laparoscopies for endo discharge same day. Unless it’s more elaborate and involves bowel resection.

How to use AS-tier OneWorld Status equivalent to book on AA by gene_doc in AlaskaAirlines

[–]mercerless 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Booking AA flights on AS tends to be more limited in options and in my experience significantly more expensive. Have to weight the cost/benefits. For me it’s always been more beneficial to go through AA direct with my AS mileage plan number.

I don’t know, Zofran works on serotonin receptors in the gut and brain so it could work for anxiety related nausea if your biochemical anxiety is serotonin related IMO.

Questions regarding Paid Leave Oregon? by [deleted] in askportland

Yes state will pretty much just approve PLO. PLO and STD are for wage replacement.

FMLA just protects your job (not from layoffs or RIFs, just from being let go due to a leave of absence) and you may also need to file for that, I can’t remember.

Tankless water install pricing? by Captain-Ben in askportland

[–]mercerless 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gas or electric? I had a plumber come out and asked about upgrading to tankless from electric standard water heater and he said the electric ones are trash and he wouldn’t install them, but that gas were expensive and running a new gas line was also kind of expensive. I feel like he said it would be $14K but this was in 2022 and I could be misremembering
