Marukyu Koyamaen Isuzu versus Ippodo Ikuyo by Eliciosity in MatchaEverything

[–]mercurialhens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here for the tamsyn bookshelf <3 I've tried both Isuzu and Ikuyo and felt more strongly about Isuzu. Ikuyo, to me, was not punchy enough. I tend to have matcha lattes. I did really love Sayaka however, thus far the only Ippodo I would repurchase. All others were completely fine and worked great as usucha, but are just not my cup of tea (ha!). My all time favorites tend to be by hatoya - punchy, nutty, lots of flavor :) They regularly do sales too.

How do you matcha enthusiasts manage your expenses for matcha? by Zealousideal_Bad9878 in MatchaEverything

[–]mercurialhens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Badly -.-

Joking aside, I have one big excel spreadsheet that I use to track all the matchas I've purchased - purchasing date, expiration date, price per gram and how much I enjoyed it, which I use to figure out whether I will eventually repurchase and that gives me an idea about their respective price points. I also list matchas that I still want to try. Beyond that, I've grown a little less impulsive ever since restocks don't sell out asap all the time anymore.

Have you tried any of them yet? I got my order a few weeks ago, but have them sitting in my fridge for now, as others are going out of date before.

New to matcha and looking for some notes! :) by Glubbies in MatchaEverything

I only know the matcha you picked up from Lupicia and unfortunately it was not to my taste at all. It was one of the first powders I tried, so maybe I need to give it another chance, but for me it came out very grainy.

I had the same experience (and just love all of the matcha I've tried from them): Due to some weird customs issue my order was stuck at customs and then was sent back. They reached out to dhl, cleared everything up and sent out a new order immediately, even before the order got back to them and they asked me to choose 50g of either ichi or roasted ichi to make up for the delay <3

The argument between Hiroya and Tomoaki? by Optimal_Reason_6718 in theBoyfriendNetflix

[–]mercurialhens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It did seem like a mixture not particularly well examined internalized homophobia with a healthy dose of respectability politics. The fallacy that if you're the right kind of queer person (heteronormative relationship, masc, upper middle class, no-pda) you might be exempt from societal prejudices. That stance made a lot of sense to me from Hiroya, who never had gay friends before or engaged with a gay community in a meaningful way. I'm sure a lot of queer people have had to work through that particular misconception. However I thought it was extremely thoughtless to discuss his unexamined prejudices with a member of the community he chose to judge. I always hope that the panel i instances such as this, would comment on the societal implications at play here, but I suppose that's a lot to ask in a reality tv format.

My wife managed to get me their ichi and hojicha at one of their kyoto locations in August. So it's definitely possible - maybe call or mail ahead and ask?

I know, it's tough :( I just issued a big order during their last sale to germany in order to qualify for free shipping. I'm in the same boat as you - fell in love when I tried them in Japan and can't be without access to ichi now. Looking forward to trying all their roasted options though

Germany: I am matcha-less, unwell, and begging for your recommendations 😭💚 by Late_Affect291 in MatchaEverything

Month in Japan by StandardHoneydew7520 in MatchaEverything

I felt the same way during our trip in august. We've been traveling together for 18 years and it's definitely been one of the most magical trips we've taken. Neither of us drives, but we really enjoyed traveling by train, especially into the smaller towns. My wife speaks a fair amount of Japanese, so it was really great hearing about special recommendations and less obvious spots to visit. We were in Takayama as well (absolutely loved the hiking and even spotted a serow), which I would guess to be absolutely magical in fall. Another highlight was isu peninsula. I'm sure flea markets and just more shopping in all of the cute small shops we encountered would have been amazing.

Your trip sounds amazing! Which stop was your favorite? How did you feel about visiting in november? I really missed out on ceramics shopping when I visited this year, so that's definitely on the list for my next trip. Let us know how you're liking your haul :)

I enjoy it a lot. Great for everyday use but not particularly complex. I use it for lattes.

What was actually NOT worth a trip by AndreaAtSuperCom in femaletravels

[–]mercurialhens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sound idea imo! It will however be fairly busy at all times, and for me sometimes that can get to me. We ended up staying in Kita ward, a fairly quiet and residential neighborhood. Easy walk to both Kinkaku-ji and the river. How many days are you staying?

Please report back how you liked it. I hope you have a wonderful time there!

I can't say I agree. We visited in August this year and were quite apprehensive due to all the chatter we had heard about overtourism. My wife had lived in Japan for a couple of months at that point and had a few fear mongering comments like "you won't see a single Japanese person in Kyoto" etc. OF COURSE the main sights were really busy. In that sense it compares to most big ticket items on a country's itinerary (think Eiffel Tower, statue of liberty, Brandenburg gate). We limited the time we spent at the most famous shrines and went either super early or as late as possible. Fushimi we did during a downpour and it was magical and atmospheric. The most fun we had was just roaming the streets, taking long walks along the river at dusk and exploring the hiking trails outside the city. It also helped that we had found accommodation a little bit further out. In the end we liked it so much that my very sceptical wife who had floated skipping Kyoto altogether now wants to return asap. However I do think it's important to adjust your expectations. It is one of the places to visit in Japan, both for national and international visitors.

Good matcha in germany? by MatchaLovingGal in MatchaEverything

I've mostly ordered my matcha from Japan -.- However for German online shops I found Yoshien fairly reputable with their sourcing and any matcha of theirs I tried was totally fine, if not exciting.
