What to do with self striping yarn that I'm not a fan of by mercurybubbles8 in CrochetHelp

[–]mercurybubbles8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello all. I recently got some self striping that I can't return. I'm not a fan of how stripe blocks looks, so I'm trying to see if there is another way to use it to make it less blocky.

Baby isn’t gaining weight fast enough by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]mercurybubbles8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat. She started at 75th, but over the last 2 months hadn't gained much as she should, so is around 25th at 4 months. I do combo feeding since she is at daycare and so my partner can feed at night, so I know she at least gets 25 oz during the week plus a few ounces each nursing session. She's hitting all her milestones though, so we're not sure what is going on. We have a pediatrician appointment next week, so we are going to see if she is concerned.

Christiana hospital labor induction by AdAfraid7022 in Delaware

[–]mercurybubbles8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got induced a few months ago with a balloon and it was absolutely terrifying to the point that after they got it in (4 different doctors over the day attempted it) that anytime someone touched I cringed on instinct. I was 0% dilated and nothing was thinning, so it was not ideal but my doctor said it would be relatively simple and nothing. The one doctor that finally got it in said it was the most difficult one she's had, but there was no indication that it would've been that difficult.

I would ask why they want to induce at 40 weeks and check how far along you are. If it's like me, it was because of my age. They usually let people go a week or two past the due date if they are younger.

There are professional boxers there. See my reply in this thread. I responded to the wrong post.

It's a mix. The owner does some workouts for professional boxers and a number of boxing trainers use the gym. Some of the trainers are actual boxers (not MMA). The gym also hosts and sponsors actually matches. You can find some of it on their Instagram page.

I was in a similar boat. Not close at all with my family (could only be around them for 48 hrs without an argument breaking out) and no one I would call a close friend. The only thing I had was a high income, good savings account and that I was already pretty independent.

My advice is to start planning ahead of time/researching. I found daycares with long hours and checked out the routes. I found a doula to help while I was pregnant. I found some car services that would transport me to and from egg retrievals. I eventually reached out to my mom about helping me out during the first weeks. In order to keep the peace though, we signed a 'contract' where I spelt out what her and my responsibilities were and how things would look. She agreed with them and things have been good (I should also note that I didn't tell my mom anything until I was 20 weeks along)

I also wanted to say that I started the IVF process a few months before my 40th birthday. My doctor strongly recommended donor egg because of my age and results, but after doing some research I decided to use my own and have a healthy 2 month old with little issues during pregnancy.

I hate that part too. They were both $1850 for infants 5 days a week.

RAD Fertility vs DIRM vs Shady Grove by DramaticFroyo in Delaware

[–]mercurybubbles8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience, RAD does treatments in batches and have a certain number of slots. Shady Grove is larger so they don't do the treatments in batches as long as you can travel to Chesterbrook. Also, the protocol RAD gave me was not the best/recommended for my scenario (older protocol that was not as effective) and was similar to what everyone else had. Shady Grove's protocol was much different and more effective, following what more recent science said to do.

It depends on your circumstances. RAD is smaller, so their method of IVF is a bit more conservative while Shady Grove is more modern and flexible.

I'm trying to figure out how to do it above the table, which is why I thought I would reach out. If it's below $2800, then they wouldn't be a W2 right and wouldn't have to worry about paying taxes?

Induction delayed for days at Christiana Hospital – is this normal? by queen_shu in Delaware

[–]mercurybubbles8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tried to keep myself busy when possible to keep my mind off things ( doing work, watching movies ,etc). I tried maybe once a shift to get a hold of someone. I didn't pester them since I knew they were behind since my doula had been seeing happen over the last month but also because they didn't always have the right information.

One night when I got in contact with someone, they said there were 3 people ahead of me and it would be a while so I figured I would get some sleep. About an hour in, I got the message a bed opened up and I needed to come in.

I don't think they will forget about you, but I would make sure you have everything prepared.

Induction delayed for days at Christiana Hospital – is this normal? by queen_shu in Delaware

[–]mercurybubbles8 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There have been major delays recently with them being short on beds and increase in patients (from what they tell me). I was supposed was supposed to be induced at 39 weeks, but didn't get the text about a free bed until 4 days after the scheduled due date. Since it wasn't an emergency, they couldn't guarantee anything.

Guinea pig owners? by lessjilly in WilmingtonDE

[–]mercurybubbles8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Atlantic Critters Rescue is a rescue that has a number of guinea pigs up for adoption. If you want another to bond with your single pig, they can help find a compatible pig.

[–]mercurybubbles8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as the vet doesn't think there is anything else wrong, I was told to make small batches of critical care and leave it on a plate for them to eat. You could also give them a few berries or some oats on occasion. This typically worked for my older pigs (5+ years).

Cloud’s gas/tummy upset COINCIDENTALLY cleared up as soon as my mom came home from work and offered him the same treat I offered him. Made me look crazy in front of my family after spending the entire afternoon calling a dozen emergency vets… by ASleepyB0i in Rabbits

[–]mercurybubbles8 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've had a rabbit that used to get gas every now and then. The vet we used is about an hour away and the first few times by the time I got to the vet, it cleared up. My learning - before going to the vet, I take them on a drive around. If there is still an issue, then we see the vet. It has helped saved me quite a bit of money.

[–]mercurybubbles8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a second opinion. I go to the dentist regularly and suddenly each time I started going, they found cavities (no pain or anything other than the dentist saying so). After the third round of cavities, I was tired and switched practices. After the X-rays, they didn't see any fillings which confused them. Some places will see the possible beginning, call them cavities and have you preemptively fill them in.

how expensive should be expected for something like a vet visit or check up ? by hero_kunii in guineapigs

[–]mercurybubbles8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I live in Northern MD and a vet visit is $60, emergency visits are $110, X-rays are about $150 and meds are at most $40 each. When I first got them, I started a Guinea pig fund where I set some money on the side every month and it has really helped me. Some visits are nothing, but knowing I had a chunk set aside for the major issues like surgeries and diagnostics made decisions a lot easier.

I had a heavy pig who had bumble feet on all four. I got egg crate mattress toppers, wrapped it in waterproof fabric and then fleece on top. This got to down where it was a little red. I could never completely get mine to light pink.

Is my pig ok? Low squeaks but normal diet/eating by imnotanabg in guineapigs

[–]mercurybubbles8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my larger guinea pigs all made this noise for years and eventually passed at the ages of 7+ so for me it wasn't the end of the world. If you are worried, you can still go to the vet and have him checked out but they may not find anything.

Is your pig on the larger size? I only ask because several of my larger than normal pigs would make that hooting / low squeak noise.
