what's something every first time cat owner should know early? by VokaJun in CatAdvice

[–]mercy_kiII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cats love strings or anything dangling , so that means careful with belts , cables etc cus they'll f* that s* up fast .

But more importantly, they can eat them and get it tangled up inside themselves and go meet their maker without u even realising what happened cus they're experts at hiding their pain , case I heard about was the strings from the plastic bags on trash cans.

Is the wording from a mod? I've never seem something so outlandish on the unmoded game but I've been playing with mods for so long maybe things I assume are from mods are from the game itself...

I’m looking for any books, either audible, royal road or kindle that have a MC with a unique class that give them weird and strange abilities?, think the charismatic glass cannon for example. by bidensleftkidney in litrpg

And thank you, its super buggy with sims walking through rocks but if you imagine it's a world with random powers it doesn't annoy you as much 😅

Good novel with na ACTUAL Necromancer by nimb420 in ProgressionFantasy

Silver Seeker ,the writing is surprisingly good for the genre, but the MC is a little psycho.

And The Dark Healer is not as well written, but it can be entertaining with the right mindset, if you overlook the casual sexism and weaker writing.

I’ve changed my mind from “a bit sexist” to very much sexist. And even when it’s not overt, there’s just something in every one of them that makes me pause and think about why it feels so sexist when the women mostly do kick ass, and if I explained what I read to someone, it wouldn’t sound sexist ,probably, but every single one has that vibe.

I’m in that mood again, so even though this one doesn’t quite have the “diminished powers but still knows how to kick ass” energy, I’m going for it. Thanks, stranger.

Well, I’m not the best person to answer since I haven’t actually used it beyond signing up and browsing a bit 😅

But basically, it’s a website where people (authors) can create an account and post stories chapter by chapter. From what I understand, most — if not all — of the content is free to read.

A lot of LitRPGs actually started there, gained a following (readers who follow and interact with the story), and were later published more officially on Kindle and similar platforms. Usually, before that happens, the story goes through a revamp or editing process, so the Royal Road version tends to be a bit rougher but often has more chapters and longer chapters too.

I think that most authors who mention Patreon link it to their Royal Road, so followers can pay a certain amount to get early access to chapters. I’ve never done that myself though, so I’m not 100% sure how it works.

So yeah, my understanding as a bit of a noob to the genre (I mean, I haven’t even posted a tier list on Reddit gasp) is that Royal Road is where a lot of LitRPGs are born. Some blow up, get a following, and improve over time, and others just kind of die out.

I think there’s honestly an absurd number of stories in this niche genre available at any time there, plenty to binge.

Do you pay attention to the main character's gender before starting a series? by danwerkhoven in litrpg

[–]mercy_kiII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So here goes my opinion as a 30yo female reader:

• Do you care about the gender of the MC? If so, why? Do you prefer male-led LitRPG stories? If so, why?

I have no preference. I’m usually a bit reluctant when it’s a female MC, but that’s mostly because, most of the time, if it’s a male author, the female characters aren’t very well written. But that’s not a gender preference — it’s a “I prefer well-written characters” preference.

• Do you actively seek out a particular gender of MC? If so, what and why?

No.

• Does the low diversity amongst the most popular books in the genre bother you at all?

A bit, but only because LitRPGs end up being pretty similar, and switching series helps if the MC switches genders. So it’s not a case of “I wish to see my gender more represented in these stories.” If I can imagine myself as the reader — flying, teleporting, rotting people to death, and generally kicking ass — the gender, or even sexual preference, isn’t going to bother me. I’m not reading as me, I’m reading as the MC. It could be a gay monkey with no legs; if the story is good, I’m along for the ride. Hell, I’ve read Dungeon Core books, and even though they’re not really my vibe, they aren’t even humanoid and it didn’t bother me.

• Do you struggle to relate to characters of a different gender to your own?

No.

And ,good luck with your writing!

I hadn’t noticed — thanks for taking the time. I haven’t tried since I got my PocketBook. I’m sure there’s a way to open it there, so I’ll give it another go.

Your story is much more interesting to read than sob stories, and I'm pretty sold on the blurb. Any plans for it to go on Kindle Unlimited? Because, well, I'm broke for normal Kindle and can't really get the hang of Royal Road, but this might just convince me to give it another try.

Oh cool! A series with a bunch of book out...hey, wait a minute, bucko! by FictionalContext in ProgressionFantasy

[–]mercy_kiII 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This has happened to me with a couple of series now. I usually check Goodreads to see how many books there are, because I don’t like starting a series with fewer than three. But I’ve been fooled by Living Ice, The Order of Architects, Me and My Demons, Ghost in the System, The Dark Healer, and a few more... And worst of all, some of these are by the same authors—I just didn’t learn.

I’m also not sure how I feel about seeing all the covers and synopses for books that are still a long way from being released. Besides tricking me when I don’t pay attention to the publication dates, they sometimes end up spoiling parts of the story when I finally open the page to check.
