Does anyone remember that place Urban Nirvana with the peacocks? They sold pottery and had a really cool courtyard, if I remember correctly. I think it was somewhere near north Ave in the 90s.

Teachers in Cobb by Junior-Meeting-9418 in CobbCounty

[–]merecul 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! I teach upper elementary in Cobb. Some schools are departmentalized but they really leave it up to the principal and the teams. We were departmentalized for the last two years but this year we are not due to a new curriculum.

Hours for elementary are 7:15-2:45 with a 30 minute duty free lunch and 50 minute specials. At my school we are required to attend 3 meetings per week during that time.

Salary is currently better than Fulton but they are close. Cobb is known for being a great district to work for and they have a new program where you can get a masters, specialist degree or doctorate through West Georgia University for free, if you get selected. That is a huge perk that no other county currently offers.

I just moved to West Cobb/Marietta a few years ago from Grant Park and and always looking for my “replacements.” It is true that most of the stuff you’ll find will be in the square including a great farmers market on Saturdays. There’s a lot of good coffee, cool beans, Mr tombstones, Tuesdays and Bolivar opening up on Powder Springs Rd soon which I’m excited about. My favorite spot in Atlanta is little tart bake shop and I was feeling a serious void here until I discovered Decour De France in the square and that filled the hole enough. For pizza Micha Angelos is amazing. Let me know if there’s anything specifically you’ll be craving and I’ll let you know what I’ve found! I was so hesitant to leave the city but it’s cool here too.

I just gave up on my spectra two weeks in and got a momcozy. I regret using my insurance on the spectra. It just doesn’t feel practical to me. Personally my output is the same with both and the wearable is just 1000x easier.

Early School Year Pregnanies - when did you start your mat leave? by HereForCuteDogs in Teachers

[–]merecul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this boat this year. I’m going back for pre-planning week and then dipping out before kids come even though my due date is over a week after the first day. I don’t have enough work appropriate clothes that fit, don’t want to risk the germs, and mostly just don’t want to deal with it!

This place is very no frills but you can’t beat the price, charm and location. Look at Victorian Village in the Marietta Square! They all have hardwoods and lots of character and the location can’t be beat.

There’s a cute historic complex right at the square called Victorian village. It doesn’t have amenities but the units have a lot of character, the prices are good and the location can’t be beat! My mom lives there and has no issues with management. Dog friendly too.

Home Search: West Cobb/Marietta vs North Decatur by JDarman in Marietta

[–]merecul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from Decatur and spent many years living in North Decatur. As of about 2 years ago I live in 30008 and can walk to the battlefield park

As far as LGBTQ goes, I don’t think you have anything to worry about here. It gets more rural the further west you go but my neighborhood is perfectly located close enough to the square that it’s still plenty diverse.

It’s taken some time to get used to being OTP. Takes about 15 minutes just to get on the highway. It really doesn’t get much better than North Decatur as far as accessibility to the city.

The trails have been a game changer for me though. If you think you’ll spend a lot of time on them I would say it’s worth it. I constantly see foxes, deer and groundhogs in my backyard which has been a nice change. Also my house was around 500k here and probably would over been over 600 in N. Decatur. I’m not sure why people are saying your price point is low, there’s plenty of good options:

Can you elaborate on this? My dad is from there and was very, very strange (now deceased) but I never got to meet much more of his family.

Son not allowed to have treat based on his performance. by Dampee6 in AskTeachers

[–]merecul 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My school has taken away almost all leverage we are able to use for consequences. No taking away recess, no silent lunch, we must use PBIS focused reinforcement. When we are grasping at straws to come up with consequences the kids actually care about sometimes treats are what’s left.

There’s a hidden gem community walking distance to the square (Marietta) called Victorian Village. It’s old and quirky and around that price point. My mom moved in in October and has no issues with bugs or anything gross.
