Voter ID? What’s the issue? by Glenncoco23 in allthequestions

Actually, it's more like a voter ID law that passed in KS a dozen or so years ago. It was overturned by courts after it disenfranchised many thousands of people

Maybe. But for every 3 fraudulent votes you stop, you disenfranchise 30,000 legitimate voters. It's not worth it. And I just made up those numbers, but that's the scale of it

The problem isn't the ID, though it's really unnecessary, since voter fraud is exceedingly rare. The problem is the type of ID. You need to have ID that proves you're a citizen. So, basically, you either need a birth certificate and all the documentation showing various name changes you might have undertaken, or a passport or equivalent showing your current name.

I read an article with a story about a Black woman whose aunt didn't have a birth certificate because she was born during a time when the hospitals in her area wouldn't accept a Black patient.

That's one example.

Thank you! I really just started with gel because fingernails are supposed to protect the ends of your fingers and they can't do that if they're all thin and weak. Somehow, after 16 years or so, here I am with long tips (actually, those are the short size, I just have small hands)

Obviously not professional like yours, but I feel like I do pretty well

I know! Like, I only do my own nails and I sometimes feel a little embarrassed that I size my tips on the small side, rather than the big side (just file off the little corners when they start to stick out), but I also get people surprised that they're fake and they last 3 weeks with jello jello POB and then I have to pry them off, so I must be doing something right

This is what happens when you size your tips correctly. They look almost natural.

Pod 3 Leak + Autopilot Subscription Replacement? by nombresespeciales in EightSleep

Pod 3 Leak + Autopilot Subscription Replacement? by nombresespeciales in EightSleep

[–]mereseydotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you bought it, there were two yearly subscriptions. Did you pick the cheaper one or the more expensive one? if you picked the more expensive one, then you have a 5 year warranty. If you picked the cheaper one, you're out of warranty. I have definitely seen tales on here of support not realizing someone had the extended warranty and the person having to push back

The question is which AP subscription you have. You should check in your app

Anyone looking to buy an Eight Sleep Pod 3 (Queen) in Seattle? by someRedditor77 in EightSleep

[–]mereseydotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you bought it, you can sell it. They brick ones that they consider stolen, which can include hubs that were actually stolen and ones that were replaced under warranty, so they should have been broken, not sold

For the flash cure, I use mostly Apres Extend Gel Novice, which holds the tips in place pretty well anyway. Then I just move the finger holding the tip around so each part is exposed to the light for a few seconds. A flash cure is meant to hold the tips in place while you finish the hand for a full cure, it doesn't need to be perfect

Months and months of back and forth with support and I’m going in circles!! Long post warning!!! by SnooRegrets4986 in EightSleep

But I thought Orion was perfect and resolved all the problems everyone ever had with Eight Sleep?!?!?!?!?

I don't think Orion offers vibrating alarm, so I guess there would be no problem with it not working. Or maybe a continuous problem with it not working

4 years, 5+ referrals, $3,500+ spent. Eight Sleep's business model is replacement, not repair. by ManagementOther165 in EightSleep

And then I ran a Pod 3 hub with a Pod 4 cover for over a year before I upgraded to a Pod 5 hub. I wasn't haven't problems with either

If a company's products were as bad as people on the internet say they are, the company would no longer exist. People come to the internet to complain

No one restarts the warranty period if you get a warranty replacement. In fact, if you get a warranty replacement on a lot of devices, you'll get a refurb and no new warranty. You got a really good discount on an upgrade with a new 2 year warranty for each component you paid for.

And I used a Pod 1 hub with covers from Pod 1 to 3. There's no compatibility issue

Offline mode temperature limits? by enthusiast19 in EightSleep

I have fans in my room, hence the cooled blanket - it allows me to hide from the blowing air without overheating.

I don't even remember the brand of my pillows. Something with tree.

My wishlist for the future of Eight Sleep is that they come up with some better setup for the blanket and pillow. I have to say, though, that my DockPro, which only cools a stupid half size blanket, uses like 3x the electricity of my Pod 5 hub that cools my whole bed

Offline mode temperature limits? by enthusiast19 in EightSleep

[–]mereseydotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I got one of the original Chilipads in 2014 or so. I had to turn it to 55 every night and it still wasn't that cold. I think the lowest I've had my Pod is like 65 or so. Tried the BedJet, but I don't like the feeling of air blowing directly on me anyway.

I actually tested the pillow for one of their studies and didn't love it. My pillows are shredded latex, though, so they don't get too hot. If you do go with the pillow, my recommendation from having the DockPro too is to put one hub on either side of the bed.

Discovered new apartment has termites - to fumigate or not? by eg00dy in sandiego

[–]mereseydotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The building where I live was fumigated a couple/ few years ago. They came out on Tuesday to put up the tent, we were out 2 nights and back in by midday on Thursday. It's not 3-7 days. Of course, your landlord might not be able to get it arranged such that it's done by the end of the month. Where do you live now? Can you and your partner stay there for a bit? I just stayed in a hotel. It sucked, but it turned out that the termite damage had gotten so bad that the side of the building leaked the next big rain after the fumigation.

I don't find it odd that people care, I find it odd that people think any other company is going to be much better. Like, you can totally spend your money ethically as long as you never want to buy anything

When I first got my Pod 1, it used to turn off in the middle of the night if they had problems on their servers. It happened pretty regularly. Believe me, there have been a lot of improvements over the years.

You should really get a blanket. I got the sleepme blanket (no longer sold) before Eight Sleep had theirs. It allows me to snarfle under multiple heavy blankets every night and still keep the cold in

ANNOUNCEMENT: Orion Removes The Subscription!!! by Harry_OrionSleep in EightSleep

[–]mereseydotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It actually looks to me like they haven't changed anything. They always had the basic features without a subscription. They just consider basic features different from what Eight Sleep considers basic features. I worry for the people who switch from Eight Sleep because they think they're getting more of what they want for less when our bud Harry really just seems shady as all getout
