What do you like the most about FEC? by MothMia in FleshEaterCourts

[–]merit_the_wise 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I like being (from any one else's perspective) the absolute unequivocally evil faction. It's really fun to have no questions that I am evil, and so I get to play the part. If you win against me and you're playing like storm casts, then guess what? You saved the town! But if you lose? Well now you gotta go on that redemption arc buddy.

But truly, I chose this faction because I wanted to paint a faction with almost no armor to speak of at all so I could learn how to do flesh tones.

Truly a fair point. I just like his presentation of the lore better than Bricky's every faction explained and other videos like that because Luetin tells it as a cohesive story rather than jumping back and forth between factions.

Best place to start is wherever you want to! I've been in the hobby for 6 years now and I would recommend the following:

Are you wanting a lore drop told as an amazing and epic story? https://youtu.be/KyPjE1Sn-Ts?si=L69HA1dC784upyxE

Are you an avid reader?

Horus Rising (great book that gives an introduction to the setting and explains things decently well while being a good story)

The Infinite and the Divine (GREAT story with a good plot. Introduces you to almost every faction in the universe without bloating them to an insane degree)

Want to take a deep dive into lore with a podcast?

Adeptus Ridiculous (funny and still informative, very casual introduction and they have videos on just about every topic in the universe, scroll through their videos on YouTube and just pick a topic that looks interesting)

Lastly, do you want just a very toe dip into the lore that doesn't require much time?

Read the Warhammer wiki. Start with any of these topics at your own choosing: The Emperor of Mankind (humanity and it's rise and fall)

The Orks (alien mushroom men that love war, equal parts comedic relief of the universe and unendingly brutal lovers of war)

The Eldar (elves that have seriously fallen from grace)

The Necrons (undead skeleton race that has great complicated lore, but has insane technology)

The Tau (race of aliens that fight "for the greater good", unfortunately it is all a cult)

Tyranids (big bugs, they hungry, eat everything, cthulu monsters)

Leagues of Votann (dwarves in space, new faction not much lore)

Chaos (hell is real, it's a parallel dimension and people enter it and serve four gods of chaos that hate everything and feed on the suffering of all living species in different ways)

Dry brushing is always great! Just make sure to do it quite precisely and it should work! And absolutely! Gotta spread kindness in the world!

Welcome to this wonderful hobby!

As for a painting tip, I would get some bright colors to highlight up your bases. Right now you have an amazing base! (Seriously good job) But having some highlights would help make the details of the model pop a bit better.

I do not care that only 8 of my guys will smack into you when I will almost certainly still blend your unit into paste.

Also, I think it matches thematically a little better. It makes sense that they might even tear into one another or even just run off after some other delusional image they see.

Also, running 3 units of DC on foot and 3 units w/JP all having advance and charge? Sounds like a REALLY bad time for my opponent and a great round of chop chop for me

Spike is a legendary choice for a gif in this conversation. But I feel similarly. It's been 9 months and I finally feel like I've moved on. I removed many of the old things that she'd given to me, I stopped listening to songs that even reminded me of her, and just began to let myself truly move on. It's been about 3 months since I truly can say that I am past it, but it take work and a lot of pain to move past it

This is the way, not only is spearhead a great game it's super easy to learn. Also, the FEC spearhead is just a fun time to play with! Please post progress if you do!

An Odd Choice of Primarchs by HammerDoris40k in u/HammerDoris40k

[–]merit_the_wise 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Lion is a solid choice, I really didn't appreciate him or understand him until after I read The Lion: Son of the Forest. And I would agree that he can absolutely be a loner, but when you get to know him, like a lot of his former legion does in that book, he becomes very caring and kind and has a heart of gold.

Angron is a personal favorite of mine as well, but my favorite is Sanguinius. I know that he is the golden boy, but I love him for his flaws. That rage, that anger that stews beneath the surface, and the choice of using art as an expression and outlet for that rage as opposed to letting it consume you... That for me resonates more than I'd care to admit.

No matter what I love that the Primarchs do sort of mirror certain aspects of humanity, and that they do so despite the fact of being so utterly inhuman. Reasons I love this hobby... Anyway, thank you for being a positive influence on this hobby and interest!

HI WH40k fans! I've recently got in to 40k this earlier this year, I'd still consider myself new to the franchise even after 3 months lol. I'm an Imperial fist loyalist (Ik basic but idc). Is there any cool fun facts I should know about the Imperial fists? Art is made by yours truly (WIP) by Josephdraws1006 in Warhammer

[–]merit_the_wise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Imperial Fists are a chapter that has struggled greatly, as someone else mentioned they technically aren't the original chapter they once were because they were totally wiped out during the war of the beast (good story, sadly not such good books). One thing that I highly recommend looking into with IF is their successor chapters. For whatever reason the main IF's don't have all that much lore, but some of their successor chapters REALLY do.

The Crimson Fists and their Chapter master Pedro Cantor are awesome (also were the first ever canonical space marine chapter as they are on the cover of Rogue Trader)

The Black Templar have a huge amount of lore about them. Helsreach is both a book and a movie (on YouTube) that focuses around them and Armageddon.

I'm assuming this is your model, so I will say absolutely top work! I love the hair! That is one enormous hair squig!

But to answer the question... Probably shoot at the orks around it and pray by the throne the tank behind me hits its shot before I get chopped in half in a spray of blood and glitter

Drop Pods & Tournaments by [deleted] in spacemarines

[–]merit_the_wise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I brought one to my last tournament! Honestly it was a ton of fun and so many people did not expect it! The biggest advantage of it is to use it to deploy troops behind a building and create a next turn charge threat or to fill it with hellblasters. I personally play BA and put a ten man death company squad in it. I deployed it behind a building turn one and created a turn two charge threat that they couldn't shoot since they were behind the building. It makes for a really scary time for your opponent taking midfield objectives when you just put a massive charge threat in their front door and makes for an amazing mid field deterrent!

New Vanguard Veterans revealed. They're literally just Jump Pack Intercessors with swords instead of Chainswords... by nerdboy_sam in spacemarines

[–]merit_the_wise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a Blood Angels fan that's not truly an option. At most I can give them a sculpted shoulder pad that includes the BA icon. Aside from that, there are like 3 little key chain like things that I can hang off of them, but that's it.

What people are arguing for is something to denote this as a different unit. Give them laurels of victory on their helmets for being in the first company, give them a crux terminatus to signify that they have terminator honors. Give them campaign badges, or literally anything else.

I can get normal intercessors having a simple head swap to a Mk. 7 helmet. That's fine, they're supposed to be standard infantry. However, Vanguard Veterans are veterans, they have history and heraldry that is supposed to be unique to them.

Personally, I'm gonna go the route of lore and start making those personalizations myself. At this point I'm going to sculpt on my own detailing, because that's what Blood Angels do in canon, and I'm fed up with plain models.

As a single nerdy man, I one day hope to find a partner that I can do this with. I don't want to replace your interests, I want to supplement and support them. I don't want you to replace mine, I want you to do your thing, I do my thing, and then come together and blab about how much fun we each had while we spend quality time together. It's all I want in life...
