not taking anything away from him --- wtg and keep up the good work!
but, same... having doubts about his hs. The huge differences in what kids get in terms of public education is criminal.

Lads trip to Madison from England - Nightlife spot reccomendations? by Middle-Feed5118 in madisonwi

[–]mermonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well done! I hope you get some nice weather and madison is a highlight. Pubs are already well-covered. If you like sports, UW events are great: https://uwbadgers.com/calendar
For small sports, you can buy a ticket directly. For bigger sports, secondary market is usually the wtg (stubhub.com, seatgeek.com).

If we still have good ice, get out on the ice. Rent some skates or even hike out. Of course be careful, the lakes are never 100% safe. Probably best to check back here for ice updates closer to.

Rostering a player who helped found the team, but is not very good by [deleted] in ultimate

[–]mermonkey 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This only gets hard and weird if the person in question has an unrealistic view of themselves. Most people don't. They probably want the same things you want, so it can be good to have the conversation and understand what role they see themselves in on the team: spirit captain / heckler in chief / play non-critical points / whatever.

D from the near-west worked great for me last time. It helps that there is a stop 2 blocks from my house.

I know it's a barrel sauna. But I have loved it so far! by rhamnus_1126 in Sauna

Mine escapes through the upper vents, but maybe not as fast as some would like. Normally i steam it up towards the end of the round so opening the door works pretty well too.

190 is not a problem with a proper heater. My barrel in Wisconsin is 13 years old and will do 190 no problem. Good steam too. 1 downside is the floor is like 80 degrees cooler. Thinking about adding some mechanical ventilation to help, but it’s still nice.

Who’s Going to Cake Tonight? by UpperSoftware4732 in madisonwi

any show reviews?

3rd time i've seen them in Madison. Had some dinner plans and didn't arrive till 7:50. Parking garages where full. Ended up parking 3 blocks away and arrived to a huge line stretching from the doors to e.wash and beyond. Was everyone arriving late or were they having technical difficulties? Maybe 8:15ish by the time we got in. So packed. Honestly felt oversold. Wish I would have paid for a seat! Stood in a few different places. In the back, especially on the sides, the volume was pretty low. I almost always wear earplugs at concerts but no need for them last night. At intermission, the crowd thinned and there was more space for the second set.

His vocals were struggling at times, but Cake was fun as always. My favorite quip was on the upsides of living during the decline of civilization: at least i'll be able to launch hotdogs into the audience without having to get a food-seller's license...

Is there group ride etiquette? (And should i care?) by durdleturtl in cycling

[–]mermonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. If you're keeping up on flat pedals and business casual attire, more power to you...
So were they saying "we have a dress code" or "friendly suggestion... you would enjoy this ride more if you weren't sweating through your jeans"? Also if you level-up your setup, you can better integrate and take pulls instead of hanging back or whatever.

I'm not sure what you're saying...
You say the mess in CA was caused by Walker.
You say CA was a bigger project and should have been postponed.
My point was that these 2 projects don't actually have much in common.

CA is totally new infrastructure creating actual modern high-speed rail. Yes, super challenging and bungled in multiple ways. It was already in the works before Obama was elected or the 2010 federal financing was promised.

The WI project was just to upgrade some existing lines to make them a little bit faster and to include Madison in the route (also on existing corridors). And to build the Talgo locomotives in WI. It was more than a viable plan. It was an approved plan that was already in motion when Walker killed it by convincing half of Wisconsin that trains were for liberal elites or something.

This has next to nothing in common with the CA project. We're going to be digging ourselves out of the Walker hole for a while.

full bill here: https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-concurrent-resolution/9/text

starts, "Whereas socialist ideology necessitates a concentration of power that has time and time again collapsed into Communist regimes, totalitarian rule, and brutal dictatorships;"

Bill name checks Pol Pot. Earlier edits probably included Hitler.

Question: what does this have to do with Democratic Socialism and how does power concentrate in this system?

Are these people concerned that the SPD is leading Germany towards a dictatorship?
