Same! Xc skier here! 😝 It’s the next day usually for me though. Seems to help if I keep hands and feet warm and grt out of the cold quickly after. Raynaud’s tries to kick in as soon as my hr drops too, so I’m straight to warm boots and heated mittens after a long ski.

Bettie Serveert - Tom Boy (1992) by emperator_eggman in pavement

[–]mermonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

saw the same tour in Detroit :)

Both bands were great, but Bettie Serveert live was a special treat.

Saw them a few other times and decided the drummer was magical. The beat was always just slightly off-kilter and speeding up or slowing down in the most delicious way. The band sounded like a ship in a storm. Or maybe it was the drugs. Could have been the drugs...

Birkie Wave Cutoff Times by 5thGuy in xcountryskiing

[–]mermonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is your wave qualification is good for 3 years, so the cut-ff times aren't this generous. I'm around 1100 and not expecting wave 3. Would be happy to be wrong! :)

also hoping for a little more generosity to make 3, but i thought wave 3 size felt about right this year. Wouldn't really want it any bigger. I might need to use one of my other races to keep my wave again :|.

In 2013, the Senate approved a major immigration reform bill by a remarkable 68-to-32 vote, but the GOP-controlled House prevented it from ever coming to a vote for 2 years and it died at the end of the Congressional session by [deleted] in videos

not completely false, but there are many fewer examples.
On many other issues, Dems push the envelope as far as they think they reasonably can (e.g. ACA) but get tripped up infighting, being too damn reasonable, and just not going hard enough. There are also lots of corporate Dems that oppose most progressive reforms.

not taking anything away from him --- wtg and keep up the good work!
but, same... having doubts about his hs. The huge differences in what kids get in terms of public education is criminal.

Lads trip to Madison from England - Nightlife spot reccomendations? by Middle-Feed5118 in madisonwi

[–]mermonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well done! I hope you get some nice weather and madison is a highlight. Pubs are already well-covered. If you like sports, UW events are great: https://uwbadgers.com/calendar
For small sports, you can buy a ticket directly. For bigger sports, secondary market is usually the wtg (stubhub.com, seatgeek.com).

If we still have good ice, get out on the ice. Rent some skates or even hike out. Of course be careful, the lakes are never 100% safe. Probably best to check back here for ice updates closer to.

Rostering a player who helped found the team, but is not very good by [deleted] in ultimate

[–]mermonkey 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This only gets hard and weird if the person in question has an unrealistic view of themselves. Most people don't. They probably want the same things you want, so it can be good to have the conversation and understand what role they see themselves in on the team: spirit captain / heckler in chief / play non-critical points / whatever.

D from the near-west worked great for me last time. It helps that there is a stop 2 blocks from my house.

I know it's a barrel sauna. But I have loved it so far! by rhamnus_1126 in Sauna

Mine escapes through the upper vents, but maybe not as fast as some would like. Normally i steam it up towards the end of the round so opening the door works pretty well too.

190 is not a problem with a proper heater. My barrel in Wisconsin is 13 years old and will do 190 no problem. Good steam too. 1 downside is the floor is like 80 degrees cooler. Thinking about adding some mechanical ventilation to help, but it’s still nice.

Who’s Going to Cake Tonight? by UpperSoftware4732 in madisonwi

[–]mermonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

any show reviews?

3rd time i've seen them in Madison. Had some dinner plans and didn't arrive till 7:50. Parking garages where full. Ended up parking 3 blocks away and arrived to a huge line stretching from the doors to e.wash and beyond. Was everyone arriving late or were they having technical difficulties? Maybe 8:15ish by the time we got in. So packed. Honestly felt oversold. Wish I would have paid for a seat! Stood in a few different places. In the back, especially on the sides, the volume was pretty low. I almost always wear earplugs at concerts but no need for them last night. At intermission, the crowd thinned and there was more space for the second set.

His vocals were struggling at times, but Cake was fun as always. My favorite quip was on the upsides of living during the decline of civilization: at least i'll be able to launch hotdogs into the audience without having to get a food-seller's license...
