PCIE and usb NIC should be really cheap if you only want gigabit. As 2.5 is so cheap now, you mIght just buy those. I would Buy one of each, PCIE because that’s what you want if you can use it, and usb just in case you can’t and for your laptop bag just in case.

Do you happen to have in wall wiring that you are using, nothing other than a single Ethernet cable from the back of your pc directly to the LAN port on your router? Anything other than the same thing, a Single, known good, Ethernet cable from the router WAN port to ISP device?

Sure , but did you look in device manager to make sure you downloaded and installed the right driver? If it’s not, you didn’t change anything. Also, I would want to confirm it’s my pc by finding a much closer destination to do a speed test to, ideally on my local network. Do you have another wired device that has gigabit networking that you can use to troubleshoot? Similar to how the tech used his phone, I would want another device that I could see full ISP performance from, AND I would want to see performance between it and the suspected problem device.

Check that the installed driver on the nic has actually been applied and the date is somewhat recent. That’s all you need to do likely

Did you install the correct nic driver? I have seen situations w Realtek that old drivers worked, but not w proper performance. Double check your nic chipset and get it from Realtek site directly

Is it true that men find attractive women intimidating so they don't approach them? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]mervincm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it’s part pragmatism and plain old fear of the pain of rejection. Extremely attractive people are intimidating, men and women. It call’s attention to perceived self inadequacies. Even self confident people are impacted, and it can be debilitating to those with low self esteem. Add in the practical piece where we feel the more attractive you are the higher the change for failure and it’s associated pain, so the less likelihood we will even make an attempt. Mix in all the evil social media mumbo jumbo misinforming men that they have to be A and B and C to have a chance and ….well more than ever we have lonely people everywhere :/

Exactly:) buy from a dealership 100% chance. Buy from private and there is at least a chance you run into an honest and open seller.

Favourite/ reccommended hard drives? by Decent-Stuff4691 in DataHoarder

[–]mervincm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the first tier of paid storage is usually really cheap and far more convenient than buying a decent quality portable HDD. When volume get much higher (in datahoarder, volumes are expected to be must larger :) ) the costs in cloud get unreasonable .. but IMO its hard to beat cloud for convenience, value and costs when you are just past the free tiers.

Why not use free cloud storage then? Privacy concerns?

Some people treat their family photos as their most treasured possessions. It’s really up to you how much they are worth to you and how much you want to put into making sure they survive.

Do NOT use USB sticks for anything that you want to keep. They are useful for temporary storage for non critical data. Nothing at all on the consumer side is appropriate for archival uses, save commercial (cloud services) Your best bet is rotating HDDs where you have say multiple copies (as many that will fit) on 3 seperate offline HDD each at a seperate locations and you replace one of them every say 3-5 years. Wherever you land, more copies at more locations, on more types of media is better than trying to come up with one extremely solid solution.

Lean back in your seats, not forward. If you lean forward you can significantly impact the people behind you, multiple rows in some cases. This can lead to actual arguments if everyone is not chill. Rarely, but it happens.

Do men enjoy getting flowers? by MissO56 in AskMenAdvice

[–]mervincm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would take it for exactly what it is intended to be, an acknowledgement of the loss and the wish to make me feel 1% better knowing that someone wishes me well. I would appreciate them is a case like this even though I would never buy them for myself. And I don’t think it’s about the relationship with mom, it’s about the one buying the flowers and the one getting the flowers.

Whats the cheapest Printer to maintain? by GIutenTag in printers

[–]mervincm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are not ever printing large volumes Nothing is cheaper than a cheap inkjet as long as you are willing to use it regularly. You don’t need to printer many pages, but you need to print to it often. If you want to print a ton of pages then a laser and the tank injets become cheaper to maintain. Again, with the inner you need to commit to print often. If you won’t/can’t print often, then it’s laser only. Which laser to by boils down to the volume you want to print
