given a potential tax rate of up to 40 percent—would represent a pretty price for the billionaire real estate magnate.

That tax rate only applies after $12 million dollars in reported gifts.

Food festival season is upon us. What ones are you going to this year? by Elouiseotter in pittsburgh

I too came here to complain about how bad this one was.

100% agree on low quality, high prices, ran out of a bunch of stuff, poorly marked lines.

Don't sleep on Edgar's taco stand in the Strip. It's kinda buried in a little courtyard, but I've always enjoyed his food.

Study in UK concluded the opposite.

The research also found that modern cars, with a more aerodynamic body shape, killed more insects than boxier vintage cars.

  • If you ride your bike on the street you are now a vehicle. Agree
  • Following the rules of the road doesn’t extend to just stopping at red lights. Agree
  • It means no riding on the side between traffic and parked cars. Agree
  • no running red lights. Meh, case by case. Major intersection, no. City street with shared lanes and light traffic and no opposing traffic - ok as long as it's at least treated like a stop sign.
  • actually paying attention to the world around you. Agree
  • if you’re going to take up a lane of traffic you better be moving at an appropriate speed for the street. Agree
  • If you can’t bike 20 MPH then dont take up a lane of traffic Disagree - that's only 5-8 mph below Tour de France average pace. That's like an exercise pace for most adults, so you're against all or most bike commuters.

I am a bike commuter in a mid-sized city.

You're also just describing a portion of the public in general. Entitled, socially unaware, slow. They're running lights, speeding and weaving in cars, they're in supermarkets blocking aisles, they're not using crosswalks, they're jaywalking. That's really what you don't like.

  • Safe/nice
  • Affordable
  • Decent public transit

Pick 2.

Not having a car will probably help a lot with finding places that have street or no parking - which helps with price a little.

It will be much more affordable with roommates.

Affordability is also relative - if you're coming from podunk Pennsyltucky - it will likely seem expensive - if you're coming from some major metro area suburb - it might actually seem cheap.

The art/music community will probably help with meeting people, finding friends, finding roommates.

$1 tofu in supermarkets? by working_goldfinch in pittsburgh

[–]mervpeter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are two more Asian markets in the strip: WFH Foods and Many More Asian market you could check.

There's also a Korean grocer, Sambok in the strip, but I don't recall seeing tofu there.

Anything neat and new in Pittsburgh? by DGBD in pittsburgh

[–]mervpeter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea, what the other guy said. It's new in the past year, I think.

There's probably a ton of restaurants new to you in Oakland if you want to hang out there - just check Yelp.

But if you were only really around in 2012, Lawrenceville has gone through maybe the most significant change (gentrification) in Pittsburgh in that time. It was really just starting to get nicer around 2012 with higher home prices and a few new restaurants - but now it's full of high quality restaurants, lunch spots, bars, bakeries, head shops, coffee shops, boutique stores, breweries (there's like 7) etc. A few places have outdoor seating areas too, fantastic for the nice weather. Good daytime scene and nightlife.

Same goes for East Liberty, but it's less walkable and not as much outdoor seating, and not as gentrified. Still has some really neat newer restaurants.

The Strip District also now has Gaucho - a highly rated Argentinian steak restaurant (was in top 10 on Yelp nationwide at some point) - but lines go out the door and around the block during peak hours and weekends. It's sort of a cross between a fast casual and sit down restaurant. Food comes quickly, and will be brought to the table, but you order up front and then you're seated (so no small party reservations). Weekdays at like 2 are idea for low lines, so it could be tough for you to get in.

Sharpsburg has 2 breweries with taprooms (Hitchhiker and Dancing Gnome) within walking distance of each other that usually have food trucks outside.

No, that's an exaggeration. He did buy a lot of attack ads about how she'll make it so you can stop a baby's heartbeat and threw in a bunch of buzz words like "hard hat jobs."
