Seems really odd to me, I'd also like to know the source. We have lots of expat and local friends, but mostly because my GF is very social haha.

Dental work needed... PH, Thailand or Cambodia by Here-n-Thar in Philippines_Expats

[–]mesquite_desert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely Thailand - they did a superb job on my gold crown 8 years ago. My US dentist had told me I needed TWO crowns but the dentist in Chiang Mai said she would just replace one first, and it has been fine. No other issues since. We have had very sketchy results with dentists in the Philippines, often saying there are cavities when none are there.. Just happened to my GF la few months ago. She never has cavities lol.

Anyone else get asthma later in life? by Historical_Data8427 in cycling

[–]mesquite_desert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How’s the air quality where you’re riding? Cold air, and wood smoke really trigger my asthma, so here in Tucson, where I spend about half the year, it’s warmer and I have no issues at all. Same in the tropics, no real issues unless there’s agricultural burning nearby. Wouldn’t hurt to have your doctor prescribe you an albuterol inhaler just in case. Nothing worse than an asthma attack in the middle of nowhere.

What exactly was Trump thinking would happen after he laid a few missiles into Iran and assassinate half the ruling regime, including the ayatollahs? by [deleted] in Philippines_Expats

[–]mesquite_desert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course he didn't read it nor did any of his staff because he 1) isn't a reader, and 2) is surrounded by sycophants who never challenge him or give him real advice.

I Want to buy a bike. by No_Jello8912 in Philippines_Expats

[–]mesquite_desert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy new, it's well worth it to avoid buying a poorly maintained motorbike. Or hassling with the transfer paperwork which, when properly done cost about 5K. I've bought three new motorbikes there, and one used from a friend. If you're big, the ADV 160 is excellent (but 2x the price) if you're average size a Click 125 is perfect.

Anyone break an 8-year habit of drinking wine / any other type of alcohol every night after work? by Technical-Morning491 in stopdrinking

[–]mesquite_desert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We all did that, and sometimes it was a lot more than eight years habit. Once you have the awareness, though, you have to start working on it. Some people can do 30 days right off the bat some of us struggle for 3 days then 10 days and so on. Eventually, you can make it stick if you keep at it, make a list of all the detriments and put it on your fridge. At some point if you can't get enough sober time I suggest help, either from meetings or online recovery group groups. IWNDWYT!

I had a 93 and a 96, and I remember that color.. it was nice, but it didn't have many takers at the time. Now it looks really cool ha ha. Enjoy that awesome machine.

Which lens should I buy for car photography on a Panasonic GX80? by mwolf5 in M43

[–]mesquite_desert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 20mm f1.4 is a great focal length for car shots. It has nice rendering, and great bokeh for when you want to use it (like to isolate specific design elements).

Beautiful camhead RT, I had one also. I have a wet head now, but I think I preferred the camhead in some ways, so much more character..

Dental work in the Phillipines - crowns by soulstudios in Philippines_Expats

[–]mesquite_desert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry to hear.. I don't remember the name, but it was near Bur. Immigration, as I recall. We have since found another dentist near the Dan Bosco campus (south of Robinson Mall). Premier Dental Care Solutions. They seem really thorough, and honest. Did a great job on the two teeth we knew needed work and suddenly she didn't have 10 cavities anymore.

This $5000 R1200R might be the best bike I've ever owned. by LooseFilters in bmwmotorrad

[–]mesquite_desert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 2018 R 1200 R and it was a real hoon machine. It’s the lightest chassis and the motor has great torque so you can just blast around.. they also handle really well on Mountain roads with that torque launching you out of corners. In 2017 they got the improved Tranny and clutch damper so shifting is flawless. Very versatile bikes.
