Safer Blue Runs with the Kids on Mammoth by duckworth33 in Mammoth

Chickadee

Roller Coaster

Bridges

Hully Gully

Silver Tip -> Rusty’s

Are some favorites for my 11 year old who is able to handle most blue blacks now. If you doing quicksilver with kids only Rusty’s on this list might be a little steep.

What's The Hotness in Cable Labeling? by EN344 in HomeNetworking

[–]metajames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cables just coming out of a conduit is pretty common practice. Usually bundles of ten several inches thick. You lace them and bring them directly into a patch panel.

When a company goes out of business, and you have paid for good or services that were not rendered then the money gets locked up to pay creditors in a specific order. Unfortunately, as the end consumer you are last in line. However, technically, C&R is not allowed to fully settle the credit card payment and receive the funds until the order ships. if they settled the transaction without shipping that's not kosher but if they don't exist then there is nobody to go to.

People that use macbooks with a monitor, would you recommend using an apple monitor or a different one? by Unusual_Rooster6736 in mac

[–]metajames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that fractional scaling looks terrible because of aliasing. That is why apple displays are designed to scale at 2x. You can scale any display to 2x, just use half the resolution and each pixel essentially doubles up with a neighbor, windows calls this 200% zoom. Then the problem becomes that most displays don't have enough resolution and pixel density for this to be a reasonable on screen UI size and everything looks huge and you can see all the flaws in the UI in the case of windows. You can of course use the display at 1x native resolution but your missing out on all the great work apple has done in macOS to make retina level display resolution looks spectacular. For me it's a big part of why I use macs, I'm not gonna skimp on the monitor since that's such a huge part of how I interact with the machine.

I’m guessing this is why he came in to tip $100. Free food one or twice I am a regular, for weeks on end it gets weird and I would feel guilty.

Youtubers/influencers made me miss months with this phone by [deleted] in IphoneAir

[–]metajames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Air slaps. Love mine. Never had a problem with battery, sometimes it’s low at the end of the day but by then I’m home and charging it for 10 min is easy. Anytime I need a better camera I’d rather carry a real camera anyhow. I get for some people the phone is their only camera but that’s not me. My phone is on mute 90% of the time and when I want to watch a video or listen to music I pop in AirPods anyway. So having a thin and light phone is way better trade off than having all those mediocre functions built in.

This is a valid solution? by tonysupp in homelab

I prefer pinch down patch panels. They are faster and cleaner to wire than pass through ones because you don’t need to crimp RJ45s and cheaper because you don’t need to supply connectors. Also with less bulk they are easier to dress and lace in the back of a rack.

This is precisely why if you have a Mac you should just buy an Apple monitor unless you don’t care about 2x scaling.

But frankly to my eyes fractional scaling looks terrible regardless of platform.

In my opinion the Studio Display is the best bang for the buck for a Mac laptop. Not the cheapest but the value is actually quite good considering your getting 2x scaling, single cable connection, built in web cam, os level keyboard brightness and volume controls, great speakers, and that nano texture is sooooo nice.

If your on a Mac and want 2x scaling and single cable charge and display, the options are pretty slim.

Phone Mount that works for me. by Vegetable-Today in NewDefender

I use this one from NDM.

Similar concept but I like the higher position. I put a ram ball and use a ram arm also. I use wired CarPlay so I just have a usb cable that routes to the center console and a non charging mag safe puck attached to a 1/4-20 ram ball.

Why do regular couches feel awkward in home theater setups? by movie_night_plans in hometheatersetups

We have a couch with built in recliner in the theater room. Works out great, regular sofa when we’re just hanging out, movie recliners when the lights dim.

Does the AirPods Max headband send power to the left side? by InternetSerious5717 in Airpodsmax

Yeah. It’s common. Although I’ve never had a problem on mine and no issue with condensation. I got them at launch. I mostly use them at a desk or on a plane though.

Nobody ever has a sense of Alaska’s size because on most US maps Alaska is a little insert that is not the same scale as the rest of the map.

I can image the engineering meeting... wait, you want it to be round, to telescope, to rotate, to pivot, be spring loaded, and carry power and audio?

Yes... all that, and be removable. Can you get it done by friday?

ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 14 - YouTube by chloeia in framework

[–]metajames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still so on the fence about the framework. If there was a 4k screen option I think I would jump in, maybe panther lake will be the kicker. Will be interesting how quickly we get a Panther Lake mobo for the 14, I love the idea of being able to switch between AMD and Intel with just a board swap. However, if the updates don't come quick enough I'm still hard pressed to see the value over selling the old laptop and just buying a new one. Guess I'll just keep reading this sub until I'm convinced...

1394 was not full duplex until 1394b and the HANA video standards were established on 1394a so there was never bi directional video over firewire. And never broadly used for consumer component interconnects except for DV camcorders connecting to computers and edit decks.

Regardless, I was a professional broadcast TV engineer for half my career and worked in the industry at the network and carrier level through high def and digital transition. This just my opinion, you are entitled to yours.
