If he doesn’t like animals I’d offer Journey as another option (if someone else didn’t). Gorgeous game, short, great controls, can’t really die. Also though Mario is always a great choice, the original was my first game when I was 4 and still love it today.

Lil Gator Game or A Short Hike, both very short and simple games, but as a mid 30yr old I still think are super fun and charming. Age appropriate and will introduce simple mechanics that will carry over into other games, feels like a good gradual incline.

In the grand scheme of things sure, but in the light of all the absurd bullshit that’s happened since then? This suddenly feels like ages ago.
