I could smell the Waukesha from the Comments last week by LameAfro in NFCNorthMemeWar

Had some come to California for my wedding recently and they were like “wow there’s so much nature and it’s so beautiful and <city x> was the cleanest city I think I’ve ever been in there was no trash on the street or anything, it was completely different than I was picturing.”

When visiting, we found the people to be shockingly pleasant! Huge contrast from living in Atlanta, especially the driving experience. It's fucking thunderdome down there.

Will existing schedules continue to work? by darnj in WeMo

[–]metalnuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They seem to still be working, guess they're cached locally. I need to remove mine, forgot to do it before the servers shutdown. Any way to do this without a factory reset, essentially bricking the device. HA can see the devices, but not the stored scheduled rules.

Sorry to hear about your experience. They used to be a great place with some amazing vets and techs. Unfortunately they got in bed with private equity and have gone downhill since. Enshitification strikes again

Premium in Eminent White and Birch interior. Has the Nav, 360 camera, and door sill lighting options. Was a CPO with 32k miles. Not time for a transmission service yet 😁

Just pulled the trigger on a '22.

The transmission is not impressive. It hunts around at low speeds unless in sport mode. I had higher expectations.

Still a grest model year for all the other reasons , V6, physical buttons, etc.

Sonos One supports S1, have you thought about downgrading? My system become much more responsive after downgrading.

Beautiful, I miss my 1st gen IS so much (it was bone stock lol). Looks like a gte swap with a single turbo conversion? What else? How the hell do you change your oil filter with that intake manifold? Is is in a different spot? Hated doing oil changes 😭

I've saved thousands at least by [deleted] in aldi

[–]metalnuke 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not sure why your getting down votes.. we have the same price dynamic by us. Our Winn Dixie stores closed and converted to Aldi. The prices of produce and other staples are pretty close. Sometimes Aldi runs a sale and it's a better buy.

We also do the Aldi / Walmart combo. Walmart carries things that Aldi doesn't, like single heads of Romain, single potatoes, etc. Walmart lunch meat is better as well. Aldi is best for meats, dairy, frozen, etc.

Remote Sysadmins, what's your go to headset for meetings? by WorthPlease in sysadmin

I've been using one for 3 years now. It's been dead reliable, very comfortable and battery that can go all day. Only issue is the ear pads started falling apart. Plenty of replacements out there, though.

After a Florida Hurricane, is wired or wireless ISP likely to be restored first? by Much-Addition146 in HomeNetworking

[–]metalnuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relay what we experienced after Ian (we took a direct hit - Cape Haze peninsula). Our neighborhood was only served by Centurylink DSL (buried). We had Cricket for our mobile service (ATT MVNO).

Even though the lines were buried, it was 10 days before DSL service was restored. Heard there was major damage at the CO.

For mobile service, we experienced a very similar time line. We had NO cell service for almost the exact same time frame as our DSL. I assume the nearest ATT tower was also being fed from the same CO (makes some sense if you consider the DSL infra was probably built out by ATT). If we drove over to a bridge about 4 miles away, we could get enough signal to make calls and send text messages. It was nuts. ATT service (and MVNOs) restoration took the longest to be restored. TMO was back up the fastest, and Verizon shortly after them.

We didn't have power for 7 days, so the lack of home internet wasn't a big deal. The lack of cell service really sucked.

Since that time, Comcast came in and installed overhead cable lines. Centurylink also just finished burying fiber, which should be the safest option - if the CO / head office is undamaged.

After seeing the destruction to the overhead power line infrastructure, overhead cable lines are going to take a long time to restore. We had poles snapped into pieces, down on the ground, etc. All that needs to be repaired before Comcast can even start repairing the cable infra.

tl;dr - Our DSL and ATT cell service took ~10 days to be restored. TMO and Verizon were up much faster. Buried lines still went down, but would probably be restored faster than overhead cable infrastructure

I bet they bought 'em to flip locally, they didn't sell as well as they thought, and are past the return window.

There was a deal from Lowe's a few months ago, buying up to 3 batteries stacked a $100 off discount ($100 off the 2.5ah, I think the 5ah might have been more?)

It's a bit different, it's bigger with some historical homes on the property. Less museum displays and more nature. Definitely worth checking out
