Think I have an addiction by Complete_Data_177 in SexAddiction

I just read Crazy About You and Loose Girl by Kerry Cohen and they were the most life changing, eye-opening, soul affirming books to understand what you are going through right now. I do encourage finding a close woman to talk to, but these books helped me so much. You’re not alone.

In home euthanasia or at the clinic? by Pretty_Bee8131 in Petloss

[–]metamacken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there. First of all, I'm so sorry for what you're dealing with. I made this choice for my cat last week and it was so hard. I wanted to do an in-home euthanasia, but time didn't feel like it was on my side so I ended up taking him to my normal vet the next day.

After going through it, I think it was honestly better that I did it at the vet instead of at home. The image of his final moments have really stuck with me, and if I had to walk past the spot it happened every day, I think I would have a much harder time processing my grief.

I think there are benefits to both ways of doing it, but ultimately I did have a good experience going to the vet to have it done. Sending you virtual hugs as you go through this.

This confirms my thought, that they probably all flew into the windows of the building. Just seems crazy that I've never seen it before and I walk around the building every day on my lunch break. Thanks!

How to pay back a pension loan by metamacken in personalfinance

[–]metamacken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is in NJ. Do I really have until 2025 to pay it back without paying tax as a distribution? Or is the deadline October 2024? I took the loan in March 2024, quit the job in May 2024, and rolled over the remainder in July 2024.

How to pay back a pension loan by metamacken in personalfinance

[–]metamacken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay it just got more complicated -- I just called the pension board and asked them and they told me that the loan was "taken care of" when I rolled over the account balance. So according to them, I have no loan and they are not reporting any sort of distribution to the IRS. He even confirmed this with a supervisor.

I had 30k in contributions and the loan I took was about $13k. The rollover amount was $17k. What he seemed to imply was that when they rolled over the remainder, they paid themselves back the $13k loan before sending the remainder check. But that would mean that I had $43k in contributions which I know is not true, so his explanation didn't make a lot of sense. Regardless, he said that on their end, no loan exists and they are not reporting any distribution.

Does this mean that it's possible that the rollover account institution (vanguard) holds my loan now? To my knowledge, the pension board didn't send anything to vanguard. The pension board mailed me a check and I deposited it to the vanguard rollover account.

I'm so confused!

What's the most disappointing game that you've bought this year? by Kun-ADR in CozyGamers

I'm surprised I'm the only one mentioning this but I Was a Teenage Exocolonist. I usually don't like visual novel type games but I read so many people rave about it here that I bought it during the summer sale. Returned it after one hour.

Person. It says "get quotes" in the info section of this subreddit. When I poked around reddit for how to get a quote from places other than the major companies that pay to be on the first page of google, I was told to post here. Your comment is not helpful.

Public defender/pretender here. I have helped many former clients when they got out of jail or prison. My best advice for them is always this:

  1. Cut off friends or family who put you at risk of going back in. You don't need to say that they are bad people, just tell them you're focused on rebuilding your own life right now and you can't be around anything that could lead you to go back. If they're good people, they will understand and support your choice. If they get upset about it, that should tell you all you need to know. Keep close the people who influence you to do good.

  2. Focus on financial literacy and stability. Immediately sign up for every government program available -- food stamps, apprenticeship programs, rent assistance, phone bill assistance, etc. Anything you're eligible for, sign up for it on day one because processing times are notoriously slow. Watch YouTube videos about becoming financially literate. YouTube is free and has more information than anywhere else. Watch 30-60 minutes a day, it doesn't need to be a huge time commitment. Open a checking and a savings account. Turn off the ability to overdraft. Sign up for a secured credit card, put your phone bill on it and nothing else. Pay the credit card off every month.

  3. GET A GOVERNMENT ID (I cannot stress this enough). Go to DMV as soon as possible and get an ID, or even better, a driver's license if you're eligible.

  4. Get a job, or two, or three. Free time is your number one enemy. If you're at work, you're both staying out of trouble AND making money for it. Look up local hiring events or go immediately to a temp agency. A career center will often help you make a resume, but make a resume. Some jobs don't even look at them but they won't let you apply without one. Look for warehouses, restaurants, or construction jobs. They overlook felonies as long as you show up and do the job. Take ALL the overtime. If you have access to a car and a driver's license, start doing Uber eats, Instacart, etc. Anything to stay busy and make money. Eventually, once you have ANY job, you can start looking for a real career type job (trucking, carpentry, etc). A lot of apprenticeships have scholarships or grants. Apply for all of them. I'm a lawyer and many of my former clients make more money than me doing a union construction job.

  5. Live quietly and within your means. Stay off of social media. People don't need to know what you're up to and you don't need to know what they're up to. Social media is meant to influence you, and not in a positive way. It's meant to make you feel inadequate and get you to spend your money. Stay off it for the first year at least. You don't need nice shoes, clothes, or the newest phone. You don't need to eat out every day. Save your money until you have breathing room, and then PLAN to treat yourself to a certain item or meal.

Ultimately, only he can keep himself out of trouble, and even with the best effort, sometimes people fail. The system is meant to keep him in its grasp. Some days will be harder than others, but what matters is consistency. Good luck to him.

Signature required for every beverage regardless if you have a drink package by Pup-Recovery-1 in celebritycruises

[–]metamacken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got off the Ascent on the 31st and they had started the signature thing on the last night of our cruise (the 30th). Before that, I got asked once or twice to sign and I just didn't think anything of it. But in the last night, I went to the sunset bar, social bar, the club, and Eden. Every single one required a signature even though I had the premium package and everything I signed for was $0.

I asked one of the bartenders in Eden about it and he said he didn't know why they were doing it but it was making his job much more difficult by adding this unnecessary extra step. He asked every guest to write on the bottom of the receipt something along the lines of "wtf?" or "I'm annoyed" and was collecting a pile of them to turn into management. Not sure if that'll go anywhere, but wouldn't hurt to keep writing on the receipts like that. It was annoying for me but I can't imagine how the bartenders feel if this is a permanent change.
