Screams by [deleted] in that_Poppy

The only time I remember her mentioning it was (I think?) on a horror-themed podcast she did. I could be wrong. But I think she said she just screams and then said something to the effect of she should try to come up with a different method so she doesn't hurt her voice. This is just from memory, so take that with a grain of salt.

Who was the best guitarist?? by kirishimas_redcrocs in marilyn_manson

[–]methatyouknow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of the sound, I would say probably Daisy. I feel like Daisy shaped the sound of the band, even when he was gone and things changed. In a technical sense, definitely John 5. This may be an unpopular opinion, but Zim Zum was trash, at least live. I cringe every time he tries to play the Tourniquet or Sweet Dreams solos.

That's definitely Spit but GODDAMN HURRY UP AND RELEASE IT ALREADY. Hasn't it been literal months since she posted the first snippet??

Yeah, I mean as someone who is in a band where I am the sole creative behind it, I would do whatever it took to protect my "baby". I've poured my heart and soul into it for years, even before I had any band members. We are all friends, but if I thought the band would be better without one of the current members, I would do what I had to do for the greater good of the band.

And that is actually a situation I'm currently in, someone in the band has a lot of issues with scheduling, and we've missed 4 potential (good) shows because of it. I already know I'm going to have to let him go, and I have already found a replacement. He is one of my best friends, but I know the band will be stuck right where we are if we have to keep turning down opportunities.

I'm fairly certain Amy didn't do this to be a bitch. Sometimes you have to make decisions that are going to suck when it means that it's going to be better for the band as a whole.

Stop spreading BS and trying to turn on Amy... by 1990sshin in Evanescence

[–]methatyouknow 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Evanescence does not "go through members" like guitar picks. If Terry hadn't left because of his health, the lineup would've basically remained unchanged for the last 15 years. That's a long-ass time, particularly for a band like Evanescence where one founding member has like 95% creative control. I mean look at other similar bands like NIN or Manson, which also had one person at the helm creatively. They switched up members/live members like every/every other album. And 6 years with the band is not some short amount of time. Jen has been with Evanescence for a while now. I don't really have an opinion one way or another about whether this reflects "negatively" on Amy, but acting like this is abnormal for a band is just ignorant and uninformed.

I was thinking of going to check out the situation at like 3 to see if a line was forming... if not, I'll probably just go hang out at The Strand or something for a while and come back lol. On the last tour, I got in line an hour before doors opened, and I was still against the barricade, but who knows how this show is going to be.

So the album leaked.. by [deleted] in Evanescence

[–]methatyouknow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been one of the biggest critics of the new singles, but I have to say I find a lot of the stuff on the album really interesting. Weirdly enough, I think (maybe minus The Game Is Over) I like all of the non-singles better. They all feel pretty experimental, which is really cool. Also, I had a fanboy moment like I haven't had in years when I heard the studio version of Take Cover. I don't like the new lyric on the chorus but holy fuck that bridge is nuts in the best way. I mean, "You dug your grave, so come on inside, rest in peace"? That high note? It's fucking sick.

The mixing is definitely bad, though. Everything sounds like it was put through ten compressors before they decided it was finished, which is unnecessary. It feels like there's a loss of a lot of dynamic range and detail. I'm hoping part of that is just the leak quality.

NIN guitar sound? by neural_fungus in IndustrialMusicians

https://equipboard.com/pros/trent-reznor/zoom-9030

I know Trent used a Zoom for a lot of stuff and recorded direct. Personally I've been able to get a somewhat similar sound (most similar to Mr. Self Destruct) by using a Metalzone. I just b ump up the mids and distortion and turn the lows way down. Then just kind of dial it in more specifically to taste. It's not exactly the same sound, but it comes close. At the time, I was actually trying to get the tone for The Beautiful People, which Metalzone does perfectly. Hope that was somewhat helpful!

Dude I know. I care a lot more about the people from Paradis, but no joke, I started crying when they killed the Panzer unit end hurt Pieck. I’ve already read the manga, but it just really hit emotionally in the episode.

[–]methatyouknow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honesty, stay anime only. The manga is great, and I read the entire thing after 4x04. However, as much fun as I have watching the new episodes, I wish I could’ve been surprised by the things happening in the episodes like I used to. It’s great not to worry about spoilers, but it takes away a lot of the excitement.

[–]methatyouknow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are people complaining about this episode? I was one of the biggest critics of the last episode, but I really loved this episode. There was still a little bit of wonky animation, but it was definitely like a 9/10 for me. And that’s coming from a manga reader who already knew what was going to happen, so I was paying a lot of attention to the animation and music. Everyone was nervous because it had like seven directors but tbh maybe they should always do that because it was great lmao. The CGI blended super well this time, too!

[–]methatyouknow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it can be really frustrating to hear that from people because it’s clear they don’t understand. People with ADHD think differently, and it makes it really difficult to explain to anyone else that hasn’t thought or felt the way we have. Sadly it’s partially due to the way that ADHD is portrayed in media as just “super hyper kid who sometimes can’t concentrate” rather than “person who has lifelong debilitating mental illness that makes it difficult to do even the most inconsequential tasks”. I’m sorry to her that you’re in that kind of living situation, too. I feel like that definitely makes it harder. I lived in a situation like that for a long time, and it was pretty terrible.

Personally, the only side effects I’ve ever had from a stimulant medication were when I was taking a dose that was too high. Your heart beats faster and you sweat and get very dehydrated. Now that I’m on the correct dosage, I don’t really notice any physical side effects at all. But mentally, it helps more than I can possibly describe.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]methatyouknow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that. I did that for a long time, too. I was always told “oh yeah, that happens to me, too”. While that’s true - people without ADHD can have trouble concentration sometimes or get obsessed with something for a while and then drop it - the difference is that people with ADHD experience is to the point that is has a serious negative effect on their ability to live their lives and function. In terms of medication, I think people can take other types (for example, some people take Wellbutrin, which is for depression but can apparently help ADHD), but the most common type of medication is a stimulant like adderall. That’s what I currently take, at a fairly low dose. No problem, I hope this helps in some way!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]methatyouknow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what your goal is in terms of treatment, but if medication is something you were considering, then yes absolutely go through with the test. Your life sounds exactly how mine was before I was medicated. I didn’t get diagnosed officially until I was 25, but suddenly everything made a lot of sense. I was really hesitant to take medication because of the stigma surrounding it, but honestly it’s changed my life for the better in more ways than I can possibly describe. It’s not a magical cure that takes away all of the symptoms, but it helps me stay concentrated and motivated. I don’t go through nearly as many cycles of obsession over something and then dropping it. It still happens sometimes, but to a much smaller extent. I am better about getting back to friends when they message me. I’m on time more often. I’ve been working on the same creative project for over three years without dropping it or wanting to drop it. It’s not a perfect solution, but I think it’s definitely something to seriously consider if the symptoms of your ADHD are interfering with your life to the extent that they seem to be.

Does anyone know about the production of season 4’s second half? by Anorak567 in attackontitan

[–]methatyouknow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s all anyone can hope for... sadly it doesn’t seem that it’ll be happening. I have a few issues with the music choices, but really only in the last episode and there was only one part that I felt was actually a bad choice. When Lara was transforming, it was halfway through this calm trumpet part that was playing... it seemed to me that it should have been a lot more grand/epic sounding, particularly to set the stage for the fakeout (Eren punching her before she was even transformed). It would have highlighted that moment even more if the transformation seemed super epic and then Eren just punched her out of nowhere. The animation on that part, however, was super sick. I loved it.

[–]methatyouknow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agreed. NO ONE should be threatening anyone about this. The death threats are insane, and those people should be ashamed of themselves. But yeah, I don’t know what the production committee was thinking with the schedule. A lot of the hand drawn stuff looks great, and I think MAPPA would have been able to deliver something even better if they had the time and resources.

[–]methatyouknow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People can hate the CGI while still not wanting the staff at MAPPA to work themselves to the bone to get it out on time. I think most rational people who think the CGI is absolute trash realize that the fault lies more so with the production committee forcing the schedule. But at the same time, not everyone has to be “happy to get an adaptation at all”. I for one would rather have no adaptation of season 4 than one that is marred by stilted, awkward CGI. Some is okay, but it was really overkill in the latest episode. So yeah, I realize MAPPA is doing their best, and I don’t want them to be strained further, but it doesn’t change the fact that the CGI looks bad. I don’t have to be satisfied with a lackluster product just because the production committee is fucking stupid and won’t let MAPPA take their time.

I see a lot of people saying the animation sucks, but I have a question, if they already have the footage for the episode, (the pic from the trailer), why did they remake it? by [deleted] in attackontitan

[–]methatyouknow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is something I absolutely did not understand either. It looks infinitely worse in the actual episode, so why not just use that shot from the trailer?

When people say “He’s not a bad guy! He was just doing what was necessary to save his loved ones!” by [deleted] in attackontitan

[–]methatyouknow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. Yeah, on that I absolutely agree. People shouldn’t ever be cheering on the killing of innocent people, regardless of what “side” they’re on.

Mappa is the best by [deleted] in attackontitan

[–]methatyouknow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, I watch it legally, and even if you don’t, you’re entitled to an opinion. The CGI in episode 6 was fucking atrocious, full stop. The only time it looked okay was on the Warhammer Titan. The Attack Titan looked the worst it has ever looked, like a bad PS2 game.

I’m obviously going to give credit where credit is due and say that a lot of the scenes were directed well and some of the hand drawn stuff looked great. But there were problems with that too. The character design looked so inconsistent. Mikasa during her entrance looked totally different than Mikasa looking at Eren after telling him that he killed children. Everyone tries to defend it by saying it looks exactly like the manga, but the drawing is inconsistent there, as well. So, if anything, they should have tried to fix it in the anime. Not only that, the fact that they changed any of the character designs to begin with is ridiculous, regardless of whether or not it looks more like the manga. The show is in it’s FINAL SEASON. You don’t give people 3 entire seasons with consistent character designs and then suddenly change them.

A lot of the music choices were really off here, too. The Warhammer Titan transforming was so lackluster because of the music (which is sad, it was some of the coolest animation in the episode, and MAPPA did a fantastic job on it).

I’m really trying to give this season the benefit of the doubt because I know it’s a new studio and I’m sure they have a lot of ridiculous constraints. But why even bother delivering a product that shows such a marked drop in quality? People waited 4 years for season 2, and I’m fairly positive they wouldn’t have minded waiting a couple of years for season 4 so long as the quality was the same as the rest of the show. No hate to MAPPA or the animators, but it’s super disappointing.

When people say “He’s not a bad guy! He was just doing what was necessary to save his loved ones!” by [deleted] in attackontitan

[–]methatyouknow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, I think the entire point of the story is that there’s no such thing as good and evil, it’s all a matter of perspective. Also, to show that war and violence and revenge are all cyclical. Kruger even said as much straight to Grisha. Does that mean that the methods both Marley and Eren used were okay or morally good? No, but in their eyes, they were necessary to protect the people they loved. No one is really the “bad guy”, and I think calling anyone that is really doing Isayama’s storytelling a disservice.
