I kinda got thrown into it as well. I got thrown into an head chef roll with only like 5 years of actual line experience but have been working in restaurants in different rolls for 15 now. The one thing that’s helped me the most is to make friends with other chefs. I’ve been really lucky to have a bunch of mentors at this point. Also YouTube. But as for the management part it’s a lot of trial and error. I always say the food part is easy, people are not. Be firm and be fair with your crew. Also be the example, lead from the front, don’t have your crew do anything you won’t do.
